Raï is about a gang of youths in a Parisian suburb. This is the multicultural environment in which Mezz, Aziz, Laurent, Nordine, Poisson and the others have grown up. There is no future in Garges-les-Gonesses. Unemployment is high, drugs and violence are a part of everyday life. The opportunity to escape seems nonexistent. You have to see this for yourself. This is a very underrated movie.

Fans of La Haine should pick this up for it's exellent mix of drama and comedy and the beautiful score.
  • Or when Thomas Gilou was a true director, before he became lousy in LA VERITE SI JE MENS like craps. It is also the best role for Samy Naceri, an actor whom not so many audiences like, even those from the suburb ghettos. Here, he is true, authentic, in this pure tough, moving drama which is for me underrated, and announces LA HAINE one year later. It belongs to the ghetto, suburb revenge plots, sp typical from France. It is not a comedy, beware, but with fun moments, such as the horse abduction, very unusual, off beat, funny. No, it's really a worth seeing feature, better than expected. Poignant, engrossing, if you dare watch it despite the plot.
