Two detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.
All of John Doe's books were real books, written for the film. They took two months to complete, and cost 15,000 dollars. According to Somerset (Morgan Freeman), two months is also the time it would take the police to read all the books.
Neighbors heard them screaming at each other, like for two hours, and it was nothing new. Then they heard the gun go off, both barrels. Crime of passion.
William Somerset: Yeah, just look at all the passion on that wall.
When Det. Somerset knocks on the door of the suspect, the sound of the knocking doesn't match the movements of his hand.
Credits roll down instead of up, contrary to common movie procedure.
