Exclusive: Physician turned #1 Nyt bestselling author Robin Cook is partnering with Euro Gang Entertainment, the entertainment company of Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman, on a pair of new projects for film and TV.
The first, Bellevue, will be a feature based on Cook’s forthcoming novel of the same name, which marks a departure for the author as a dark and atmospheric work of horror. Slated for publication in December, the book tells the story of Mitt, a first-year surgical resident at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Mitt has a long and dark family history: his physicians’ forebears are guilty of grievous sins, extreme instances of medical malpractice committed at the very hospital where he now studies. Set against the gloom of supernatural haunting, and amidst gruesomely accurate surgical imagery, Bellevue is the story of supernatural vengeance for the sins of Mitt’s ancestors.

Plot: Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer whose crimes match an unsolved case that he looked into 5 years previous in Chicago.
Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.
The story follows Detective Lawson (Samuel L. Jackson) as he travels to Scotland to help with a case. Someone is recreating the murders that Lawson investigated back in Chicago five years prior,...

Brad Pitt is one of the pioneers of modern cinema as far as Hollywood and acting are concerned. Having started as a nobody and a background actor with no credits in many movies, Pitt has come a long way. While his looks and physicality seem to have certainly played a hand in his popularity, it is really his acting genius that has solidified him as an A-list Hollywood actor.
Brad Pitt (in Legends of the Fall)
Among one of the most influential celebrities, it is hard to imagine the film industry without the many roles he has played over the years. Yet when it comes to making it big in the film industry, Pitt credits one of his least-grossing films from back in 1991.

Turning down a job can sometimes come back to haunt you, especially if you're an actor who passed up a role in an acclaimed horror movie and later regretted the decision. This scenario may be difficult to imagine. After all, who would pass up the chance to be in a movie or TV show, right? As fans, though, it can be easy to forget that the movie business -- for all its glory, fanfare, legacy, and importance -- is, at the end of the day, just that: a business. A person in any industry may decline a job that doesn't feel like good fit, doesn't align with their schedule, or maybe would have them working with a filmmaker or co-star they unsure of for one reason or another.

David Fincher is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s finest filmmakers and his impressive films throughout the years have shown his mastery towards his craft. He has made some of the best crime/psychological thrillers that have become era-defining films like Se7en, Fight Club, and Zodiac.
David Fincher most recently directed Netflix’s The Killer
The maverick director is among the auteur directors who have not ventured into big-budget filmmaking and superhero films. The director had a rather interesting reply when he was asked about stepping into the world of comic-book films.

For those of us who remember going to the movies in 1977, we were treated to Star Wars, Smokey And The Bandit, The Spy Who Loved Me, Airport 77, The Car, Orca and Capricorn One. There was a rich wealth of movies to choose from and a time when audiences in their local cinemas would cheer and clap for the heroes. Then on December 14, 1977, coming off the success of Jaws, that director Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi masterpiece graced the screens. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was the filmmaker’s next movie and, along with star Richard Dreyfuss and the magnificent score from composer John Williams, took audiences on a journey of mankind’s first meeting with aliens and let us know we are not alone in the universe.

The 30-year anniversary of David Fincher’s horror masterpiece Se7en is fast approaching, and David Fincher had teased just last summer that a 4K restoration was on the way.
Fincher told Variety in June 2023, “We’re going back and doing it in 4K from the original negative and we overscan it, oversample it, doing all of the due diligence and there’s a lot of shit that needs to be fixed. Because there’s a lot of stuff that we now can add because of high dynamic range.”
He continued, “You know, streaming media is a very different thing than 35 mm motion picture negative in terms of what it can actually retain. So there are, you know, a lot of blown-out windows that we have to kind of go back and ghost in a little bit of cityscape out there.”
So when will you be able to see this new 4K restoration of Se7en?...

He mentioned that Nolan and Eastwood also shared disdain for multiple takes.

Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.
However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.
While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

It started as a practical joke among friends, a way for superstar Brad Pitt and acclaimed director David Fincher to playfully mess with their inner circle on New Year’s Eve as the year turned to 2000. But the elaborate prank, involving staged Y2K chaos and fake federales with automatic weapons, ultimately left some psychological scars.
What Did Brad Pitt and David Fincher’s Prank Entail? Brad Pitt on Between Two Ferns
As per Cracked, on December 31, 1999, Brad Pitt and David Fincher gathered friends at a secluded Mexican resort to celebrate the millennium. But when the clocks struck midnight, instead of toasting champagne, the power and phones suddenly cut out, plunging the party into darkness. Moments later, the lights flipped back on as “government troops,” wielding Ak-47s, burst in to arrest one of Pitt’s friends, Mark Gervitz, on fabricated drug charges.

Mark Ruffalo has worked with veteran director David Fincher alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal on the sets of the 2007 film Zodiac. While working with Fincher was an achievement for Ruffalo, the actor revealed his fair share of difficulties that came along with it.

David Fincher is an obsessive filmmaker. He's become somewhat infamous for his perfectionism, shooting multiple — some would say exhausting — takes to get what he needs. There's a method to this madness: Fincher is looking for something raw and honest. "I hate earnestness in performance," the filmmaker once half-jokingly said. "Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone." It's fitting, then, that Fincher's best film is about obsession. "Zodiac," which hit theaters in 2007 and promptly failed at the box office, is the best work of art the filmmaker has created so far; a brilliant, captivating film that grabs you by the throat from the first frame and doesn't let up. Like the characters who inhabit the movie, we grow obsessed with the story; with the mystery; with the truth that can never really be learned.

Many people often blasphemously (and hilariously) joke around that Morgan Freeman is God. Not only because of his pitch perfect casting as God but also due to his smooth, defining and, yes, god-like is Morgan Freeman’s voice that one can’t picture penguins or parts of nature or, yes, God, without hearing the man. One reason could be that we’ve only ever really known Morgan Freeman as an older actor, not striking a chord with mainstream audiences until he was in his 50s.
Soon enough his skills, screen presences and voice had Hollywood calling every time they needed a kind wise grandfather types or a grizzled vet from either side of the the law or any type of narration in any type of film. That persona has marked him as a welcome figure throughout modern cinema – despite the nearly constant cash grabs that pad out the unfortunate bulk of his filmography.

The question of how to get the most authenticity possible out of actors has been riling up filmmakers for as long as the film medium has existed. William Wyler ("Ben-Hur") did 40 takes; Robert Bresson ("Pickpocket") insisted on simple movements and monotone line deliveries; Italian Neorealists cast people off the street; Robert Altman ("Nashville") let actors improvise; Andrei Tarkovsky ("Solaris") kept them in the dark about how the story would end.

“A lot of Goop,” one of the attendees remarked on leaving Gwyneth Paltrow’s In Conversation talk taking place at the Red Sea Film Festival. “A bit lopsided,” another agreed. Many of the gathered gripped Marvel posters and wore Marvel T-shirts, but everyone was happy to welcome an actor whose career has spanned films as diverse as “Se7en,” “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Shakespeare in Love,” and the biggest applause came when she said that this was her first time in Saudi Arabia.
The first female CEO of the Saudi Research and Media Group Jomana al-Rashid acted as moderator and began the talk with a survey of Paltrow’s acting career and her first inspiration: “My mother is an actress. She did mostly theater. And so I grew up as a little girl watching her rehearse plays and running around the theater. My mother would even say she always felt a bit insecure.

David Fincher has firmly established himself as a master of blending art and commerce. It’s especially impressive considering his output has been uniformly dark, moody and disturbing, with flashes of wit and satire thrown in. Let’s take a look back at all 12 of his films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1962, Fincher cut his teeth at special effects house Industrial Light and Magic, working on such films as “Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi” (1983) and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984). He left to pursue a career in directing, making his mark with a commercial for the American Cancer Society that depicted a fetus smoking a cigarette. He co-founded Propaganda Films, a production house for music videos and commercials that employed future filmmakers Spike Jonze, Michael Bay, Antoine Fuqua, Alex Proyas, Mark Romanek, Zach Snyder and Gore Verbinski. Fincher himself helmed several famous music videos, including “Vogue,...

What began as a simple two-hander about strangers chained in a squalid bathroom, enduring the twisted games of a mysterious tormentor, has evolved into an intricate saga spanning nearly twenty years and ten gruesome films. With every new "Saw" movie, the traps become bigger and more brutal, the timelines increasingly jumbled, and the twists even more mind-boggling. Each "Saw" entry delves deeper into (and complicates) the maniacal Jigsaw philosophy that forces people to confront their sins and appreciate the life they've been given.
Often regarded as part of the controversial horror subgenre "torture porn" (even though we may need to retire that term forever), the "Saw" films feature graphic depictions of mutilation and extreme violence in elaborate devices that are not for the faint of heart. While it can be daunting to tackle such a visceral and temporally complex series, there is really only one solid path to follow when...

The Killer is a movie directed by David Fincher starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton.
The Killer is a film that bears the mark and legacy of its director, David Fincher, in every frame. Renowned for his meticulous attention to detail, Fincher’s reputation is fully justified in this gripping murder mystery.
Even in a movie centered around a character known for his flawlessness, The Killer manages to be impeccable. However, this time the protagonist fails to carry out his job flawlessly.
The Killer Film Review
The Killer serves as a blueprint for crafting a technically perfect thriller. Fincher’s obsession with perfection shines through, elevating the storytelling beyond the surface level. This cinematic exercise pushes the boundaries of Fincher’s own mastery, confirming that he is indeed a maestro.

Birth/Rebirth (Laura Moss)
Likely a film that some will find underwhelming due to its lowkey, mostly affectless style, it’s a rather impressive feat of narrative economy that manages to separate itself from the seemingly endless indie horror crop. Directed by Laura Moss, there’s the sense they either don’t have much of a feel for the genre or rather harbors a general disdain for the shorthands it’s fallen into (hopefully they don’t get absorbed into bad studio product soon), the film’s tendencies refreshingly feel free of the trappings of calling-card cinema. – Ethan V. The Killer maybe David Fincher’s most Fincher-esque movie, as one can’t help but compare the protagonist, a precise assassin, to the director himself. Yet, to an audience that doesn’t much care for perfection or anything cinematic and is just looking for a crime thriller like any of the mastermind’s previous hits, this film will come across as lackluster. The Killer, based on a French comic book of the same name, is a tale about the mundane life of an anonymous… killer. Set in the present day, The Killer makes it abundantly clear how easy it is to be an assassin in the 21st century. Completely banking on leading man Michael Fassbender’s performance and appearance, the film is 2 hours of mostly the protagonist and his thoughts. Fincher made his mark in the industry through his crime thriller Se7en back in the day. Ever since his...

In psychological thrillers like Se7en (1995) and Zodiac (2007), director David Fincher chronicled investigators doggedly pursuing serial killers. In The Killer, debuting on Friday, November 10 on Netflix, he flips the script and gives audiences access to the mind of a murderer—who turns out to be equally determined. “You are inside this guy’s head,” said Fincher, a three-time Oscar nominee, about the nameless central character. The twist is that the hired assassin (Michael Fassbender of 12 Years a Slave and Steve Jobs) expresses—in intimate voiceover—insight into his mindset and the credos he lives by. If you don’t like waiting around, he jokes, this job is probably too tedious for you. “Stick to your plan. Anticipate, don’t improvise,” he intones. “Trust no one. Fight only the battle you’re paid to fight.” But viewers glimpse how his codes conflict, at times, with his behavior. “If you tapped into [a killer’s] thoughts,...

Actor Denzel Washington, considered a leading man, normally doesn’t have to audition for film projects. And it’s a privilege the actor appreciates, seeing as he really doesn’t like fighting other stars for movies.

David Fincher is sometimes accused of a smug misanthropy, as his obsessive fascination with procedure, behavior, and psychology can suggest an unfeeling smirk or a weary shake of the head at the human condition. Though The Killer does touch on some weighty themes related to death and fate, particularly in a lyrical scene where Michael Fassbender’s character has a showdown with a glamorous, nihilistic fellow assassin (Tilda Swinton), the film’s relatively slight, linear narrative seems to have permitted the director to cease his investigations for a little while. His calculating approach is instead applied in service of a straightforwardly entertaining film, and while it might not offer much in the way of originality or depth, it’s undeniably effective and refreshingly unafraid to embrace its own shallowness. In conjunction with the film’s release, we ranked all of Fincher’s features to date. David Robb

Though many might consider David Fincher an auteur filmmaker who is probably above making superhero films, that wasn’t always the case. Early in his career, after the success of “Se7en,” it appears Fincher was brought in by Sony to pitch the studio about what his version of “Spider-Man” might look like. And no, it’s not at all like the film Sam Raimi would eventually give audiences.

With “The Killer,” David Fincher finds himself in familiar territory: working again with “Se7en” scribe Andrew Kevin Walker on a lean, mean adaptation of a pulpy crime plot. And how well Fincher excels in fare like that–whether it’s stuff like “Panic Room” or his take on airport reads like “Gone Girl“–is why he’s one of his generation’s most beloved filmmakers.

Michael Fassbender is a killer with a meditative streak.
The actor leads David Fincher’s drama “The Killer” as an assassin who begins to have a psychological crisis in a world with no moral compass.
The official synopsis reads: After a fateful near miss, an assassin battles his employers — and himself — on an international hunt for retribution he insists isn’t personal. Solitary, cold, methodical, and unencumbered by scruples or regrets, a killer waits in the shadows, watching for his next target. Yet, the longer he waits, the more he thinks he’s losing his mind, if not his cool.
The Netflix film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alexis Nolent Aka Matz, which “Se7en” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker adapted for the screen. Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, and Sophie Charlotte also star. Ceán Chaffin produces.

Who doesn't love David Fincher? I did not love "Mank." But I still love David Fincher, and I know you do too. However you feel about that last feature, it's been a while since Fincher had a real consensus banger, and that's the kind of film he's known for. Viewers loved his Netflix series "Mindhunter", but hey, that's television, and Fincher only directed seven out of 19 episodes. Could "The Killer" slingshot Fincher back to the top of the American auteur pyramid, knocking the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Gina Prince-Bythewood, or any of his other Gen X competitors off the top spot?
That remains to be seen. But we do have a new trailer for the film, a follow-up of the trailer Netflix released way back at the end of August. There have been more developments than the mere release of a second trailer since then, too. People have seen the movie.

Richard Roundtree, an icon of Blaxploitation film who starred as detective John Shaft in Gordon Parks’ 1971 action thriller, died Tuesday afternoon after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81 years old.
His death was confirmed by Patrick McMinn, his manager since 1987.
“Richard’s work and career served as a turning point for African American leading men in film,” McMinn said in his statement. “The impact he had on the industry cannot be overstated.”
Roundtree was a leading man from the very start of his lifetime in screen acting. After beginning his career in modeling, he secured “Shaft” at the age of 28, marking his feature debut. The “Saw” films have always been rightfully tagged as torture porn, but they come on as flesh-ripping morality plays. Each victim, strapped into his or her loopy-ingenious electro-medieval Rube Goldberg slicer-dicer-chopper-gouger, is being put through the agonies of the damned only because of some sin that he or she committed in the real world. The whole concept of sin, articulated this heavily, is more than a little corny, but there’s no denying that in the “Saw” movies the concept serves a canny purpose.
The most interesting idea in the “Saw” films, stated over and over by that wizened high priest of sick violence John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), is that he isn’t actually killing anyone. He’s just giving people choices. (Choose to have your fingers pulled out of their sockets…or die.) It’s an idea that links up to what’s going on in the audience.

In the years leading up to its release in 2013, all signs pointed to "World War Z" becoming an epic disaster. First, there was the furor over its script, which went through multiple drafts written by Matthew Michael Carnahan and J. Michael Straczynski (who wound up sharing story credit), along the way transforming Max Brooks' inventive source material -- a fictional oral history of a zombie apocalypse comprised of accounts from multiple survivors -- into what read on paper as a milquetoast "A-lister saves the world" tentpole. Then came the news that the film would be reshooting more or less its entire third act, causing its budget to further balloon and delaying its release date by six months.
Unsurprisingly, the final movie result is a Frankenstein's creation that plays as a bombastic zombie action flick for its first two-thirds before abruptly changing into a much more low-key survival horror thriller...

David Fincher hasn’t worked on a blockbuster franchise since making his infamous directorial debut on “Alien 3” — a film that he has since disavowed due to what he saw as excessive studio interference — but he has flirted with taking on big properties on multiple occasions. He spent years developing an adaptation of Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” for Disney with the intention of casting Brad Pitt. And more recently, he was briefly attached to direct Pitt in a “World War Z” sequel.

Every 18 months someone new would come in. We were just getting whiplash. Every new person was like, ‘We’re going to go bigger!'”
