Correspondent John Oliver was one of several Daily Show cast and crew members who went to St. Paul, Minnesota, to cover the 2008 Republican Convention. Since Oliver had only a temporary work visa to allow him to work in the United States, and he was therefore extremely wary of getting into any legal trouble that might have caused him to be deported, when he and his crew found themselves in a restricted area for which they did not have clearance, they ran away from security guards. While they were being pursued, a group of military veterans helped them hide from the guards. One of those veterans was U.S. Army combat medic Kate Norley. She and Oliver hit it off, exchanged e-mail addresses, started dating, were married in 2011, and had their first child in 2015.
