  • When Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart) turns 16, she is told by her aunts Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Zelda (Beth Broderick) that she is a witch.

It's a fun teen series. The first year, I especially like her best friend Jenny (Michelle Beaudoin) and Mr Pool (Paul Feig). I don't know why they dropped Paul Feig, but it all worked out. He along with Judd Apatow created 'Freaks and Geeks'.

At least they got Lindsay Sloane and the wonderful Martin Mull. It's a fine high school series. But then they send her to college and it just doesn't work as well. Heck eventually she's not even a teenager anymore.

It was a nice show with magic and a teen tryng to stop people from being badly affected by it. Then for some reason they gave Sabrina college "friends" who really suck.

I watched three seasons of 'Sabrina' as an adult and don't regret doing so. It's not 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' but it's fun, charming and harmless.

This is a standard teen drama suitable for everybody. It's not brooding or mysterious, it doesn't really even have a story, it's just a collection of fun episodes about a 90's high school girl with magic powers, a talking cat and two crazy aunts.

A TV show this simple just works. It's like 'Friends' - it doesn't need any flashy special effects, plot twists or long story arcs. It just needs light-hearted jokes and imaginative ideas, and 'Sabrina' delivers.
  • Sabrina The Teenage Witch is a very well produced and funny show because of one good reason, the characters all have great chemistry. The Story is about a young half witch/ half mortal called Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart) and she went to live with her Aunts Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Zelda (Beth Broderick) and their world dominating mad cat Salem Saberhagen (Voiced By Nick Bakey). My favourite character (s) are Sabrina because Melissa Joan hart is a very funny comedy actress and she can make everything funny (plus shes fine), Salem because he makes me laugh all the time i watch him Nick Bakay is a very talented actor and Aunt Hilda, Caroline Rhea is the best actress on the whole show because she portrays wacky Hilda with brilliance. This show was very funny when they had Mr Kraft, Libby Chessler and Harvey Kinkle but it went down hill when they brought in talentless actors and actress, such as that girl from Clueless and Solei Moon Frye who is not a good actress at all.

In Conclusion i give the School Years of Sabrina 10/10 and the College years a 7/10 because i felt that it lost its sparkle after this! Sabrina The Teenage Witch 1996-2003

I really like this show. I have only recently started watching it and I am only currently starting Season 4, so I don't know how the show ends. But I think it's really good. It's a new take on witchcraft, because it shows more traditional methods, while putting it in a comedy setting, instead of a dramatic one. I think the characters are very funny, my favorite is Aunt Hilda. But I do want to know why Sabrina's best friend changes every few seasons.

This show is about Sabrina, a normal girl who discovers she's a witch. She learns the craft from her two aunts and talking cat. This takes her on many adventures, and leads her to love, loss and friendship.

Overall, I give this TV show a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

It's very entertaining TV series, I would consider call it as one of the best witches TV series.

And it's not because since her days on "Clarissa Explains It All" that I've had a bit of a crush on Melissa Joan Hart, who at the time this show was popular was already well into her 20s, but was still able to get teenage roles. "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" was Hart's next big leap after her "Clarissa" days. Based on the comic strip, Sabrina Spellman is - you guessed it! - a teenage witch who attempts to balance her witchcraft antics with the demands of everyday teenage life. She is aided in her endeavors by her two aunts and a wise-cracking black cat as she goes from high school, to college, and finally to her career in journalism.

As usual, Hart is the show's heart & soul. "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" is quite moving and very funny, and it's a shame that it took me so long to realize how great it was. I only wish there were some newer episodes that we could all enjoy.

    10/10

Sabrina was one of those underrated, popular shows that came on during TGIF days. STTW did well and entertained yet didn't get its respect.

I guess during back in the day Christians were so uptight and found a show about witches offensive. Fair enough I guess. But today they are fine with it....Which one is it?

The characters and story were very fun.

    The Cat was the best.

    Verdict: The Cat was cool

I used to love watching "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" Friday nights on ABC's TGIF. I think this was one of the best shows on TGIF. My friends and I used to get together every Friday just to watch this show and we never missed an episode.

My favorite character was Salem. He was adorable and sooo funny. I liked Sabrina's boyfriend Harvey, too. He was HOT. I think Melissa Joan Hart played a good teenage witch, too. My favorite episodes were "Sabrina Through the Looking Glass" and "Hilda and Zelda: the Teenage Years". Those episodes were great.

Overall I really miss this show. I hope one day ABC brings it back with new episodes. I give this show 10/10 stars.

But then it started to get stale after season five. Especially when Sabrina even though she was eighteen in season five still ran to her aunts each time a spell went wrong. It started to get tedious. She was an adult in college and she didn't need to go running to her aunts ! She needed to learn to fix things herself.

Her aunts weren't any better. Actually they were causing most of it. They should have been firm with their niece and made her solve her own problems. Zelda shouldn't have gotten that teaching job and Hilda shouldn't have bought the coffee shop. They needed to let Sabrina go and stop indulging and be an adult in the real world instead of wrapping her up in cotton wool. How she managed to survive without them is beyond me.
  • 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch' is an odd show. Almost cartoonish in it's humour and yet a traditional audience based sitcom in other ways.

For the first three series it was also crucially a good show. It was warm, it was funny, and the story lines were good. Mellissa Joan Hart demonstrated that she was a good comedienne and was ably supported by the two actresses playing her aunts, as well as the lovely Lindsay Sloane in seasons 2-3.

Then it all went a bit sour. Hart was growing up and the show outgrew it's own premise of her being a 'teenage' witch. But with the network having a hit on its hands they weren't about to let it go, so we ended up with an almost spin-off show showing Sabrina at college dealing with the sort of teen issues that felt like they'd escaped from another show.

There are good moments throughout these latter years, and the finale is good, but if you're wanting to see the show at its best, check out series 1-4.

Why did I enjoy the show to the last episode? Because of the true talent Melissa Joan Hart and her supporting cast had of demonstrating that whit, comedy, light-hearted humor, and deep thought could actually coexist. What I enjoyed most was the fact that I could come home from a hard day's work, and bust a smile... I was inspired... and why? It was an inspiration to watch as this magical person was so happy while helping others.

Sabrina was a hero in my opinion... even though she was vulnerable in ways that were not so different from our own... to very different; she had powers at her fingertip, wishes, and command that could be used for good or bad which may only exist in many of our imaginations. Most everything we see, have, know about, own, or even desire... can be used for good or bad, and how we choose to define that, defines the person we are.

She traveled the globe and other realms with these constant and unwaivering ideas in mind... to learn, to live, to laugh, and to love. She was always learning how to improve her skills to the benefit of all around her; she made mistakes as she was living life, going through different journey's of growth, as she, her aunts, and Salem (the underrated, yet imperfect hero) did well to demonstrate that even through mistakes, you can still be noble, gifted, and wonderful.

She also demonstrated many selfless, learning, and loving acts as she went along her way. If this isn't reason enough for 10 stars in this war torn world where people are so hostile toward each other, not realizing how differences are the spice of life rather than a reason to kill... then I don't know what is. This show was most certainly a trip to a better world as well as an inspiration to be better ourselves and a gift intended to bust a smile on our chops... I've heard from a doctor before that everything that I've mentioned above leads to a healthy "hart"... and isn't that what we all need? :)

Movie and television series of the present day often do a weird job in presenting the witch or the wizard. Harry Potter for example, is a total wizard, but his main source of power is through a wand. And 2008 TV series wizards of waverly place is one of the most unbearable shows ever and to top it all off they are NATO even allowed to use their powers without permission. Talk about parental control and no magical fun. So I would say Sabrina the teenage sets herself apart for actually being a show with powers that is both humorous and inviting to watch. Sixteen year old Sabrina comes into her powers why living with her two aunts, who teach and guide her into powers as she grows up. Funny characters such as Mr kraft has a bitter attitude, but he also turns out to be one of the most entertaining characters. Sabrina also uses her powers and actually makes you believe that magic is cool instead of harry potter who has spells dealing with old English and wizards where their spells are too bizarre. Sabrina is the best witch I have seen to hit media and she insures that what your watching is entertaining, funny and magical.
  • I used to watch this show as a teen back in the 90s. And it was entertaining. But compared to other sitcoms it's mediocre. It's classed as a sitcom but I think it should be just classed as a kids show. Anyway I'm digressing.

The two actresses Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea along with with actor Nick Bakay who voiced the cat were the only three things in it that made it worth watching. So when the two aunts were shoddily written out of the show (and If you're someone who has seen this from the very first season will know) it was probably the worst bit of writing since the Bobby Ewing story in Dallas. Which I only know about after my mother in law told me and I subsequently googled and then spent a good afternoon laughing my head off watching YT clips!

As Sabrina progresses, the entire cast turn into Libby Chessler from the first few seasons, who was a narcissistic, machete mouthed b@#ch, more concerned with her appearance and less about anyone elses feelings.

And then there is Melissa Joan-Hart aka Sabrina. Her character is the worst of them all. Stepping all over people and their emotions to get what she wants under the guise of doing it out of the goodness of her heart.

As an adult rewatching this on Prime it's an eye opener to how I must have been half zombie to have watched this load of utter ass gravy of a show and not seen how atrocious it is.

I gave one star for the two aunts and the cat. If it weren't for them I'd have given it zero if it were an option.
  • I love Sabrina! I really hope the whole series comes out to buy on DVD, because I can guarantee that I would buy and watch all of them. And I know I am not alone. The show is funny, Sabrina is so cute and fun, and Salem is pretty witty. If I could, I would watch Sabrina every day (which I practically can since it is on every day but Sunday) but still, it hardly seems like enough. It is on a newer channel (to me anyways) called the N and now there are new shows on that channel that I hope to god don't replace Sabrina. Not unless all 7 seasons come out on DVD-which they really, really should! I looked on e-bay for Sabrina stuff and bought the original movie (it is on its way), but other than that, there wasn't enough. So really Sabrina's only flaw is that they haven't made enough for the loyal viewer to buy!
  • I remember catching "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" when I could, but it wasn't a regular show of mine that I had to see. I couldn't even tell you when it premiered. It was one of those shows that was now on primetime in the place of some other show.

Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart) was cool enough back then, but the show came out when I was in college so I definitely wasn't making it a point to watch. If I watched at all it was because of my fondness for "Clarissa Explains it All," the show I first saw Melissa Joan Hart in. I think the funniest part of the show was the cat Salem Saberhagen (voiced by Nick Bakay).

I recently re-watched this show 20 years after it was part of my childhood TV rotation. It's incredibly likable and cozy. The characters are all distinct with their own motivations, flaws, and growth. Salem is a gem.

But don't think too deeply about the lore and rules of magic, which is hard to do during a binge watch. The way magic works is inconsistent; circumstances that resolved one episode are broken in another. It's a kid's sitcom and magic is the 'deus ex machina' to create and resolve any problem of the day.

The "other realm" (magic land) is made up of hilariously low-budget reused sets that are fun to spot on re-watches. It's cheesy and not at all believable, but it doesn't matter - it's fun! Less fun is the disappearance of many characters over the years, from friends Jenny and Valerie to several teachers and even the leading aunt characters in the last season. It's always abrupt, barely explained, and feels disjointed. This is a show for occasional or out of order syndication viewing, even though there are several longer story arcs.

If you can look past these flaws, you can have a really good time watching Sabrina. The quality dips during the last few seasons as it overstays its welcome, but especially the first 4 seasons are goofy, silly fun.
  • Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a big childhood favourite of mine, and I was surprised at how much I still like it. I will admit the College seasons are not as good, lacking in creativity complete with some clichés and some actors that don't seem comfortable. In its prime though, Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a wonderful show and nigh on perfect. The production values are darn good with nice photography and the sets and fashions don't feel tacky. The effects are also surprising, not award worthy perhaps, but they don't look cheap either. The music is memorable too, the writing gleams with charm, fun and wit and the stories are always interesting with the situations entertaining. The characters are very likable, my favourite being Salem. The acting is also great, Melissa Joan Hart is excellent in the title role, and if I had to say who was my favourite actor/actress on the show it would be the brilliant Caroline Rhea. All in all, wonderful. 9/10 Bethany Cox
  • This show was really good fun for the kids. I know all the kids in our family really enjoyed it. Not much here for adults though, but that doesn't really matter since this show obviously is meant for the kids. Kind of predictable stories and jokes, and the cat was pretty creepy sometimes (to the kids)...

I loved watching Sabrina as a kid although I never did get to see every episode so I decided to watch it all from beginning to end and I am pleased to say it didn't lose any of it's magic now that I'm an adult.

Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina) is fantastic and brings comedy to the show. Her quick exits, 'gotta go' and 'woo hoo' are just some of the things that make her character so lovable.

The big problem I did have was there were too many disappearing characters which were always so easily dismissed. Jenny? Valerie? Miles? Josh? Zelda in the last season???

There seemed to be a common theme among most of the mortal characters of all 7 seasons that they were 'dense' (how Sabrina often described some characters) which I assume is to make it more believable that so much magic can go unnoticed around them. It could also be because (in my opinion) Sabrina seems to think she is superior, a straight A student, deserving of the best - therefore surrounding herself with mortals which feed her ego.

I must admit, while I still enjoyed the seasons after Sabrina left high school, it just wasn't the same and Josh and Sabrina didn't really work for me. I suppose Sabrina being a teenager was key for the show and maybe didn't work so well when she became an adult with a job and responsibilities.

I was however very happy with the ending although I would like to have seen more of Harvey. Sabrina and Harvey's relationship was the very essence of the show and I was constantly checking IMDb to see how many episodes Harvey would be in each season and when he would next be on.

I almost cried when it ended but mainly for myself, that's a chapter of my childhood finally complete.

    Woo hoo!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Seasons 1-3 deserve at least 8 stars, and sometimes as many as 9 or even 10 stars because of the superlative degree of wholesome comedy, innocent teen drama, wry imagination, and straight-up entertaining plotlines and adventures that often feel close-to-home and relatable despite the very colourful world of high fantasy and magic!! In many regards, the first 3 seasons were the perfect form of feel-good television, and represented everything that was great about the 1990s (the decade that so many Millenials grew up in).

Also, the CHARACTERS in the first 3 seasons that the Sabrina and the Spellman family interacted with were FAR AND AWAY THE BEST. Libby was perhaps the greatest and most complex teenage character here - an arch-rival to Sabrina who was a three-dimensional person with her own vulnerabilities, brought to life in a pitch perfect manner by the talented actress Jenna Leigh-Green. She was hilarious, but wasn't a generic, stereotypical cheerleader. Her friends Jill and CeCe were more stereotypical cheerleaders perhaps but they too were played with a great deal of humanity by those actresses, making Libby and her posse one of my favourite elements of the series!

Harvey was the quintessentially adorable boyfriend for Sabrina, thanks in no small part due to the earnest portrayal by Nate Richert, while Valerie proved to be the most adorable best friend in Seasons 2 and 3 (thanks to the very wholesome energy of Lindsay Sloane). Yes, it was very annoying that Jenny - her best friend from Season 1 - left without a trace, together with the highly memorable and much loved Mr. Poole from the 1st season, but as much as they were missed, Valerie and the other new characters introduced in Season 2 such as Mr. Kraft and even Ms. Quick were so in keeping with the spirit and tone of the show that most viewers were able to move on and keep going without feeling like the overall quality of the series had been compromised. The Quizmaster was another truly iconic and super cool supporting character. Tuning in to each episode was nothing short of a sheer delight right through the end of Season 3, due to this spectacular SUPPORTING CAST.

Unfortunately everything went COMPLETELY DOWNHILL from Season 4 onwards. Most of the supporting high school cast that audiences had grown to love disappeared completely, and the absence of Libby and Valerie in particular was *EXCRUCIATINGLY FELT*. I really didn't mind the addition of Dreama and Brad - in fact it was nice to see Harvey have a friend like Brad - but the introduction of Josh was one of the most HORRENDOUS "developments" I've come across on any series!!!! He was a terrible, mean, sadistic character who came between Sabrina and Harvey - completely devoid of the fun qualities that Harvey's former rival Dashiell the young warlock had - and the fact that Sabrina chose to lust after Josh and cheat on Harvey with him COMPLETELY RUINED THE TITLE CHARACTER from that point onwards. Had Libby been there, she would surely have called Sabrina out on her hypocrisy and fake moral superiority, while Valerie would never have endorsed such a betrayal either.

The only entertaining element in Season 4 for me was the AUNTS - whom I enjoyed even more than the ultra-popular Salem, especially AUNT HILDA who was played to perfection by Caroline Rhea, one of the *MOST HILARIOUS* AND MOST NATURAL COMEDIENNES ever to grace a screen. She convinced you that she WAS Aunt Hilda, and not merely 'playing' one of the Aunts.

However, by the time Season 5 rolled over, and Sabrina started college - which she should have started in Season 4, because Season 1 depicted her as a sophomore, rather than a freshman in high school - it felt like not even the Aunts or Salem could keep the show afloat. The college setting was so DRAB - perhaps a reflection of the show moving from ABC to the cheaper WB - and her new 'friends' like Morgan, Roxy and Miles took a long time to get used to. I also despised the fact that they felt the need to portray Sabrina as the sitcom equivalent of Carrie Bradshaw from 'Sex and the City' at this point, dating various different guys. Melissa Joan Hart seemed desperate to break away from the wholesome image Sabrina and Harvey had cultivated during the first few seasons, and this just made the character UNLIKEABLE and UNSYMPATHETIC to me - a WANTON WITCH, versus the WHOLESOME WITCH that we had been introduced to in Season 1!

I really can't give the 4th and 5th seasons more than 3 stars out of 10, for the reasons listed above, even though Season 4 may have felt a little bit more like the classic, golden years because the show was still on ABC with the high school set and everything. The attempt to write Harvey out of the show at the end of Season 4 resulted in a backlash, and so they were compelled to bring him back later in Season 5, although Season 5 ended with Sabrina officially dating the AWFUL JOSH. Season 5 had also lost MOST of the magic and charm of the first few seasons, and while Season 6 admittedly did a lot to bring back quite a bit of that old-timey charm and magic (after all, hello, the show has the word "witch" in the title, which the WB network seemed to forget at first) - the fact that Sabrina and Josh were now presented as some kind of super-couple was EXCEEDINGLY NERVE-GRATING and ruined this season as well for me. I would maybe give it 4 stars out of 10, and the best thing that happened that season was Josh LEAVING the series forever at the end (not because Melissa Joan Hart and her mother wanted him to, but because the actor David Lascher chose to pursue something else).

By the time Season 7 rolled around, it was clear that Paula Hart, Melissa's mother and executive producer, ERRONEOUSLY believed that MELISSA was the reason everyone kept tuning into the show, and that the success/popularity of the series hinged only on HER. Nothing could have been further from the truth. She was just the title character in an ENSEMBLE CAST. The Aunts were now gone, and although it made sense on the one hand to depict Sabrina trying to live as an adult on her own two feet at long last, without the constant comfort and guidance of her aunts, the fact that 2 iconic characters who had been around for 6 seasons were now gone left yet another hole (an ever-increasing void, that began with iconic characters like Libby and Valerie being let go after Season 3). Still, I was very relieved to see Josh gone, and would take his replacement character - Aaron - over Josh any day of the week, and so I'm inclined to rate the final season at least 5 stars out of 10. Unfortunately Sabrina herself had become an almost INSUFFERABLY OBNOXIOUS character by now - no doubt because Melissa Joan Hart believed she was the undisputed star by now, when she actually wasn't - and the character's treatment of Salem was abominable (she treated him like he was less than a person, and merely the butt end of a joke who could even be tormented/tortured for the sake of a laugh).

I found the Scorch magazine setup quite refreshing after the horrendously dreary college set we had been subjected to throughout Seasons 4 and 5, and I thought those characters were much more in keeping with the spirit of the show from Seasons 1-3 (including Annie the boss). Roxie had become another insufferable and unbearable character to me by now, however, although I had acquired rather a SOFT SPOT for Morgan, by and large, and as annoying as she could occasionally be, I looked forward to seeing her more often than not. She was the only character who could fill the gaping hole left after the elimination of old-time icons like Libby and the Aunts - although, like I said, Aaron himself was quite a viable rival for Harvey!

It made zero sense that Sabrina would try to marry Aaron while hiding the fact that she was a witch (even worse than Josh never finding out that she was a witch), of course, and there were other huge problems that plagued the show during the latter seasons such as Sabrina's mother still not being allowed to have a relationship with her by the Witch's Council (which was originally only supposed to last 2 years). It would have been far better to show Sabrina at least having her MOTHER drop by every once in a while, after the Aunts were gone. Anyhow, all things considered, I can't rate the series more than 6 stars out of 10 in the final analysis, due to the WIDELY VARYING qualities of entertainment and credibility the show embodied across the different seasons.

In some ways, Seasons 4-7 should not even be considered canon, because as mentioned earlier, Sabrina was supposed to FINISH high school at the end of season 3. Instead, we were given an extra year of high school - presumably to drag out the "teenage witch" factor for as long as possible - but then she, Roxie and Morgan ONLY SPENT 2 years in college before "magically" graduating (and I use the word sarcastically here, obviously), so the last few seasons really make ZERO COMMON SENSE when you combine these factors with the other issues I pointed out previously.

I hope Melissa Joan Hart realizes at least now that this wasn't just some ego trip for her, but rather, other actresses like Jenna Leigh-Green/Libby, Lindsay Sloane/Valerie, Caroline Rhea/Hilda and Beth Broderick/Aunt Zelda were JUST AS RESPONSIBLE for making the show so iconic as she herself was!!!! I don't think Melissa and her mother Paula got THAT MEMO while the show was still on air, which is why the series declined horrendously from Season 4 onwards.....

But at least we all have the TERRIFIC MEMORIES from Seasons 1-3, and although the latter seasons DO always tarnish the full enjoyment of the early seasons upon rewatching, because you KNOW the horrors and writing gaffes that are down the road, the fact that Sabrina and Harvey end up together in the end does compensate for SOME of the atrocities committed by the producers and writers. Far from a perfect ending, but it was something!
  • Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely fell in love with STTW when I was in junior high school. I had the soundtrack on CD, I had the books, I had the DVD sets, some episodes taped on VHS, everything (which these days leads me to believe that the show was used mainly to sell merchandise that nobody would give a damn about ten years later). Being a kid, it was my first real experience with one of the "cool" shows since the only other that aired in my small town was The Secret World of Alex Mack, which was very hokey. I guess STTW wasn't terrible for kids, but going back and watching it as an adult, it just looks like it mimicked every fad of its time in all the worst ways, all while subjecting its viewers to its sea of whiny, spoiled, immature and self-centred characters. Melissa Joan Hart especially, watching her as an adult I've realized now more than ever that she could never even act worth anything, and her character of Sabrina was a lazy, shallow and coddled brat who never seemed satisfied with anything or anyone. She was sick of her mundane life and kept complaining about it. Then she finds out she's a witch with magical powers. Then she whines and complains about how she hates being a witch and wants to be normal. All she seems to care about is her own self-image, clothes and boys. She puts down everyone, from her doting albeit eccentric aunts, to her talking cat. She's supposed to be this insecure semi-geek type girl, and yet she's just another queen bee who just happens to do all the judging and teasing of others in the privacy of her own home. She's hardly a likable character at the best of times, so for the main lead it perhaps wasn't the best way to go about it. I've gotta say that the only characters I truly liked or cared anything for were Sabrina's funny and quirky teachers, from Mr. Poole to Ms. Quick, and of course, the jerky but not entirely bad guy Mr. Kraft. The show did bring on some good guest characters too, but rarely did they make more than one appearance overall.

The show's "special effects" (and I use that term lightly) have never been realistic or convincing, from a repairman with a fake raccoon tail tied to his behind, to the Salem puppet which terrified me when I initially saw the show as a kid because it looks almost like a ventriloquist's dummy (at least Salem was at least somewhat tolerable compared to Sabrina herself). To be fair though, we're talking about a comedy show, and Season 1 was when it was only just trying to get off the ground. I had hoped that it would progress as it continued but actually it got worse, especially when Sabrina entered her college years, got a bad dye job and the element of crass humour and innuendo jokes entered the picture, too. It had hit a point where it was too adult for children but too childish for adults. It became one of those types of obligatory shows that you would put on every day after school simply because there was nothing else on. So I'm honestly not surprised that it ended when it did. Its very campy performances, lame dialogue, predictable episode plots and annoying soundtrack by various 1990's pop bands of the time all seemed to drag it down to the point where it could go no further.
  • Despite going on far too long, the first few seasons were *magic*. MJH did a fabulous job of maintaining great chemistry with the other characters - especially frienemy Libby. The aunts absolutely made the show! Sadly, they, and the rest of the other actors, dropped away over time and MJH didn't know when to call it quits. Once Sabrina is at college and working, it just loses all its charm and becomes yet another boring sitcom.
  • I'm sorry, people, but I'm blasting this one out of the water. OK, I hear lots of little girls (mostly now grown up) squealing "You can't that! Not our beloved Sabrina! You cad!" But this show is the absolute damn pits. Please note that I'm not talking about Season 1. Back then, it held promise. I began watching it after having struggled through CHARMED, and felt that this one, even though a kid's show, was much cuter, even in its simplicity compared to CHARMED. But it does seen as if playing witches turns actresses into bitches, and StTW follows the CHARMED route. The character becomes obnoxious and thoroughly unlikeable. Okay, you are yelling at me, what are you talking about? By Season 3 it is a junior gross-out show for girls, with fart jokes and all kinds of squeamish goings-on, such as that very unglamorous episode where Sabrina's face turns red. There are way too many similar things happening, and they are clumsily carried out, unfunny, and quite not a good example of good viewing material for cultivating proper little young ladies. A totally obvious turn of events is that Sabrina becomes worse than Libby, she is aggressive, and bratty, often scowling, and insistent on getting her own way, she is mean, impatient, laughs at people less fortunate than her, she is shallow, fickle, and in short, she ACTUALLY BECOMES WHAT LIBBY IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Yet nobody comes forward and takes the self-centered little brat on. Until now.

There is a contemporary show, CLUELESS, that did not get released on DVD because of being in the shadow of that movie. But CLUELESS is a much better TV show, with a darling heroine, who is, by the way, also self-centered, but who realizes this, and makes up for it. I know I'm treading on toes here, and off-hand, you'd tell me I'm out of line. But just take a look at Season 3, and look out for the stuff I've mentioned. She is for the most part, not cute at all, many, many times she is exactly the opposite. If you look at the beautiful girl on the box cover and DVD menus, you'd expect a very stylish show. But no, she's a little self-righteous tornado. Well, the likely audience of this show became the Me Generation, and I can damned well see why!

And then there is Aunts Hilda and Zelda. The less said about them, the better, unfunny clown that especially Hilda is. Those two actresses(?) must have laughed all the way to the bank. Without exception, all the male guest stars are total doofuses of the worst kind. The show's major saving grace is Salem, the talking cat, who was progressively upgraded and further and further upgraded throughout Seasons 1 and 2 to be absolutely life-like by Season 3. Pity they couldn't do the same for Melissa. Maybe if they made her as likable?

Lindsay Sloane, who plays Sabrina's 'weird' friend, is actually the most likable character in Season 3. I guess that's because she is so NOT of the Me Generation. The very best of the series so far was little Emily Hart as Amanda. All those episodes with her in it, were extremely entertaining, and I hear there are lots to follow from where I am speaking from, at the near end of Season 3. Oh, and the episode with the Molly-Dolly, the Halloween episode of Season 3, well, give credit where credit is due, that was well done.

It is too late to give creative input to this show, it is history, but I wonder how many of you out there saw that this heroine isn't at all nice, although she is supposed to be a good girl? Just go look at Season 3 again...
  • Warning: Spoilers
Once upon a time there used to be a teenage witch named Sabrina that made us laugh and have a nice time while we were watching.

"Sabrina, the teenage witch" was a show full of life and...well, charm. Sadly, over the last 2 seasons, the magic started to fade away.

The show was filled with fun, light-hearted adventures and situations that the characters had to manage, with the aid of magic, but never lacking of 'mortal' emotions. Along with Sabrina, who was portrayed perfectly by the beautiful and talented Melissa Joan Hart, we got to experience her new-found powers, achieve her magic license and discover the secret of her family.

The cast was amazing. Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick were fantastic in each and every episode and shone a light of their own even in the dusk of the show itself. No one could have predicted what happened next.

As Sabrina grew up the show was forced to put her in new situations such as getting a job, moving out and starting college. However they could have done it better. MUCH BETTER. The constant eliminations of characters increased more and more. We even lost Harvey, but I thought he had to go sooner or later. But the breaking point was when aunt Hilda and Zelda mysteriously disappeared. I had not seen the show in a while when this happened, and when I saw I was in shock. The show was over.

The only laugh we could get was from Salem. The plot line didn't feel good anymore. The characters were unfamiliar (Who's that guy? Wedding? What?!) and we were all lost. The magic was gone.

Finally, towards the very end of the series we got Harvey back and the show had a perfect final episode. It was the proper way to say good bye to something that made us happy for a long while but slowly died away. The way it should be. It was just the perfect end.
