Trivia

The Coens (Joel Coen & Ethan Coen) wrote the scene at the restaurant with Mike (Steve Park) to develop Marge's (Frances McDormand) character outside of the case or her marriage.

Quotes

Carl Showalter: You're Jerry Lundegaard?
Jerry Lundegaard: Ya. Shep Proudfoot said...

Goofs

When Carl pulls up to the parking gate after stealing the license plate, the airplane on the Northwest Airlines hangar in the background is painted in the 'bowling shoe' livery. This livery was not used by Northwest Airlines until 1989.

Crazy Credits

The original editing credit for this film was "Roderick Jaynes," a fictitious creation of the Coen Brothers, who edit all their own films with only occasional assistance. Jaynes actually received an Academy Award nomination for his work on this film, but did not win.

Alternate Versions

Television edits of the film consistently replace the word "f*cking" with "froozing." Also, in the scene where Carl shoots Wade, the audio is inexplicably edited so that we don't hear Wade say, "Oh, jeez."
