I'm going to state the obvious, it's a City Hunter rip-off : the main character is a terrible womanizer, who fails countlessly until he meets the girl he has to protect, and she will eventually fall for him, the magnum .357, the proficiency with any weapon, the 10000 ton hammer at the end of the movie, the bald giant, you get what I am saying. In my opinion, they wanted to cram so much of the anime inside the movie they forgot some visual gag do not work in a live feature. There is way too much plot lines, the protection of the girl, the assassination of the cousin, the girl who wanted to take revenge for her father, the underling who wants to overthrow his boss. Every time they get trough one issue, an even bigger situation arises. It got boring after a while. What I mean is the movie is burdened with mistakes, yet he is keeps himself from being totally unpleasant to watch, I just had to push through the first 30 minutes and it turned into a smooth ride. And of course, I have to compare it to the Jackie Chan's City Hunter, which I really enjoyed watching, because it is more than an episode turned into a live movie, the director used the original material and gave it his personal touch, (I am referring to the Street Fighter reference among other things), whereas Mr.Mumble did not stray from the manga.

I was watching MR. MUMBLE and wondering what to make of it all, then I found out that it was an unofficial adaptation of the same manga that spawned Wong Jing's CITY HUNTER and it all began to make sense. It's about a happy-go-lucky cop who spends his days chasing women in bars before tackling Triads and terrorists in equal measure. This low budget production stages one low rent set-piece after another, with an emphasis on silly, lowbrow humour and lots of sexual innuendo to boot. In the second half, it starts picking up the pace to deliver some high stakes wacky action sequences, but it's clear when watching that Hong Kong cinema was past its best by this stage.

I enjoy Mr Mumble, its a fun film, apparently not seen by many as this is the first review for IMDB.

Michael Chow is very reliable as ever, providing us with some good action and comedy, although the comedy never quite goes so far as Jackie Chans version of City Hunter.

This is apparently known as City Hunter 2, as i believe he is supposed to be the City Hunter character although i don't recall him ever being called City Hunter in this film.

Worth an 8 out of 10.
