Frank Oz was unable to perform and puppeteer his signature characters of Miss Piggy, Fozzie and Sam the Eagle, as he was busy directing Bowfinger (1999). Kevin Clash took over principle puppeteering duties during shooting, and Oz re-recorded the characters' voices in post-production.... ...

Asian elephants are never found on a Caribbean island in reality. The film crew used a female Asian elephant as Benjamina Gunn's cinematic entrance for dramatic license.
At the end of the movie a stone head is telling Long John Silver a joke.
After complaints about the cinema version, the BBFC removed all occurances of the word "bloody" to retain the U-certificate on video.
