| Definitely underrated!
"The Rock" combined action, adventure, comedy, romance, special effects and a great plot into one of the biggest worldwide blockbuster action films in decades. Add to the mix, Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris and a great supporting cast including John Spencer, William Forsythe and David Morse, and "The Rock" is one of the best ways to spend two hours. This film also devotes a great deal of time and effort to character development, something that most action movies neglect. This film is definitely underrated and is worth more praise than it has received.

Trivia

Nicolas Cage and Michael Bay differed as to the reasoning behind the early scene of Goodspeed naked with the guitar. Bay says it's because he knew Cage wanted to show off his body, so they decided just to get it out of the way up front, but Cage says he simply wanted to establish that the character was at home.

Quotes

General Hummel: Congressman Weaver and esteemed members of the Special Armed Services Committee, I come before you to protest a grave injustice... It has to stop.

Goofs

(at around 48 mins) When the Ferrari finally is destroyed, it appears that it is simply a shell sitting over a chassis. The shell seems to almost jump off the chassis upon impact, indicating that it wasn't bolted in as it should be.

Alternate Versions

The Australian theatrical and video releases were edited to obtain a more commercial MA rating. The original DVD release, whilst rated R, was not the uncut version, but was taken from a UK master and thus contained the BBFC-censored UK version. Some scenes previously cut were restored, but other scenes found in the cut MA version were not in the cut R version. The film was finally released uncut on the 2001 Special Edition DVD with an R rating. The film also aired uncut on cable, with a lower MA15+ rating. in 2007, the OFLC passed an uncut blu-ray with an MA15+ rating.
