Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends.
The film was shot in mid-1995 over seven weeks on a budget of $2.5 million with the cast and crew working out of an abandoned cigarette factory in Glasgow.
Mark "Rent-boy" Renton:
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed ...
About 41 minutes in, when Spud and Renton are running down the street, several passers by stop to look at the camera, most notably the two women at the left of the screen and the two men carrying bags near the corner from which they have run.
The voice-over during the end of the end credits cites the seven movies in which Sean Connery played "James Bond".
