Oh where, oh where is Batman...
I loved Batman's portrayal in the 1992 animation and in JL/U, but here we hardly see anything of the conflict/problems of being Batman and Bruce Wayne.
And this Tim version of Robin has to be one of the most annoying sidekicks ever. They're trying way to hard to make him cool to ten year olds and his presence has made the show virtually unwatchable. The show seems to think we're more interested in him than Batman.
Also, as others have said, I don't believe Batman would let such a little kid help (and with so little training).

After watching Batman: The Animated Seres you'll possibly be a little shocked by the first handful of episodes, I was. The one big problem comes at you right away. Most of the new character designs come of as simple and very angular. The Joker being the most disappointing with his pointed chin and his now expressionless eyes which is a stupid decision. The Clown Prince of Crime is a mad comedian, he needs readable eyes!
Two-Face luckily stayed pretty much the same, but explaining the problems with the redesigns would take too long, so let me bring up one case of awesome: The Scarecrow was so creepy and that really worked with his character!
But I must confess one thing, this sequel series had much more darkness to it and not the sophisticated way of Batman: TAS. It's more graphic and less psychological and that's shown from the first couple of episodes.
But not every episode lacked the psychological side: Judgement Day, Mad Love, Old Wounds and Over The Edge are actually really well written in that way, my personal favorites being Mad Love and Judgement Day.
But we still have the solid voice acting skills from these talented actors. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are amazing as always and a surprisingly sinister performance by Malachi Throne as the new character The Judge in the Judgement Day episode.
By itself The New Batman Adventures succeeds, but as a sequel to Batman: TAS, it falls a little short.

This is pretty much a continuation of The Animated Series, which is very consistent with that show. With only 24 episodes, there are surprisingly a good amount of top tier Batman episodes here. And this is coming from a long time DC fan that has seen EVERYTHING Batman. DC/Batman fans should really appreciate this one.
The New Batman Adventures is the sequel that The Animated Series deserved, and its style-differentiation is justified yet it still feels like the sibling to its predecessor.
The New Batman Adventures has more stylized character designs than before, and while that may be off-putting to some, Batman has never looked sharper than he does here; at least I say that with a lot of love.
Batman has always been empowered with rich stories and The New Batman Adventures continues that tradition beautifully. It is a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series, but it stands its own ground just fine.

Overall Gotham Nights isn't as good as The Animated Series. For starters the show has been over sylized, so much so that it loses the heart and feel that TAS had. Some key examples of this would be the new Batmobile, Joker, Poison Ivy and Harley. The Characters don't have the depth they had in TAS, they come off as silly little cartoon characters. And the Joker keeps coming off as a common thug, not the Psychotic genius he should be. Bruce Wayne is too cold and calculating instead of a tortured soul fighting for justice.
But the show has its ups, Some of the storylines really benefit from the increased flexibility offered by WB. The crossover with supergirl really shows this. And the inclusion of Nightwing is awesome, he really adds some much needed depth to the show. His struggle with Bruce was really well handled, with the exception of Bruce being so cold as mentioned above.
Overall the show is still better then 99% of TV today, but doesn't quite live up to the greatness that was TAS.

- TriviaDuring the midst of working on Superman: The Animated Series (1996), the WB network approached the creative team asking them if they could do more episodes of Batman, which would air alongside Superman, since the contract to air Batman: The Animated Series (1992) on Fox was set to expire in 1997. To freshen the look of the new show, the art style was revamped from the "Batman: The Animated Series" style to a more consistent and fluid animation, as well as to keep similarity with "Superman: The Animated Series". Many of the characters took on different designs for the series. Some fans of the previous series had trouble accepting the new designs and as a result the show is remembered more for the character designs.

Bruce Wayne: What are you doing tonight?
Barbara Gordon: Same thing we do every night, Pinky!
Bruce Wayne: What?
Barbara Gordon: ...Never mind.
- Alternate versionsAlthough this show goes by "Batman: The Animated Series Volume 4" on video, the original intro from "The New Batman/Superman Adventures" can be seen as a bonus feature if the viewer selects "Play All" on the DVD's main menu, in addition to the original BTAS intro.
