A straight laced propane salesman in Arlen, Texas tries to deal with the wacky antics of his family and friends, while also trying to keep his son in line.
Cotton Hill's voice is based on Ross Perot's.
At the end the episode where Hank is having issues with Bowel movements, he rushes to the bathroom, and pulls Bobby out. Bobby is wearing PJ's and has toothpaste on his mouth. After Hank passes a movement, the shot is of Peggy and Bobby, and Bobby is now wearing his usual attire. When Hank emerges from the bathroom, Bobby again is wearing his PJ's.
The beginning of the opening title sequence may play a slightly different opening sound depending upon the nature of the episode. For example, an episode where the Hills go to Mexico plays a distinctly Mexican guitar riff at the beginning, whereas the 100th episode had a bell ringing and a hooting sound on top of the other "normal" instrumentation.
When the episode where Hank hires Leon the drug addict aired in syndication, it showed an extra scene during the credits where Hank wanted to get urine samples from everyone and from inside the men's room, Joe Jack said that if he didn't get another cup, a celebrity was gonna die.
