George Foreman, the charismatic boxer turned infomercial star who had a retail hit with his Foreman Grill product line, died Friday. He was 76.
The Texas-born Foreman became Heavyweight Champion of the World, and segued into a TV staple and pop culture icon. He was swept up in the swirl of decade-defining events surrounding Muhammad Ali as well as Joe Frazier and other high-wattage pugilists of the 1970s. In the 1990s, Foreman took advantage of the availablity of low-cost TV time to launch his Foreman Grill home grill product through a series of infomercials that he hosted.
Foreman famously had a close call in the ring in 1977 that drove him to quit boxing and declare himself a born-again Christian. He became an ordained minister in 1978 and began preaching in his hometown of Houston. He shocked the sports world when he returned to boxing in 1987 and wound up reclaiming his Heavyweight Champion...

The Egyptian theater in Hollywood is continuing its monthly screening series in association with the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. And March’s is a doozy.
On March 26, Brad Bird, who took home Lafca’s prize for Best Animation for his first three animated features as a director, will be on hand for a special double feature of “The Iron Giant” and Pixar’s “The Incredibles.” In between the movies, there will be a Q&a moderated by Lafca member and film critic Peter Debruge.
The screening is part of a celebration of Lafca’s 50th anniversary with “each film selected for this series in 2025 representing a unique choice made by the organization at its annual vote.” Often, these are chosen to highlight specific titles that “stand apart from the preordained frontrunners of awards season.”

King of the Hill’s Luanne Platter: World’s okay-est hairdresser, creator and host of the puppet show Manger Babies and a delicious Texan meal?
Before Lucky Kleinschmidt comes to kick my ass — or more realistically, tries his namesake luck at suing me — I should clarify that I mean the latter descriptor in the literal sense. Platter, like many King of the Hill characters, appears to have gotten her name from a Lone Star State institution: The LuAnn platter at Texas chain restaurant, Luby’s.
Pairing “a select entree” like “Fried Fish,” “Bacon Cheese Steak” or “French Grilled Liver” with “two sides and a roll” for an unspecified “great low price” per Luby’s website, the LuAnn platter has come to define the decades-old Southern cafeteria, putting it on the map as a “Texas comfort food staple,” as the Houston Chronicle once called it.

At this point, it’s hard to be unaware of Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy. The show’s irreverent humor and over-the-top antics have earned it unprecedented success and even more money. Its media empire now encompasses books, films, merchandise, and over twenty seasons of content — that’s 428 episodes, by the way. Culturally, it’s on par with The Simpsons and South Park as one of the most iconic American comedies.
Its rounded style and brightly colored art are just part of its appeal. Like many of its rivals in the adult animation sector, Family Guy leans into “crasser and edgier” humor. It takes The Simpsons’ formula and deep fries it to create often surrealistic and always markedly darker comedy. The show first debuted in 1999, and it’s still airing new episodes. That’s over two decades of content, and change is inevitable. In some ways, change is even more likely for Family Guy.

Gen-Xers likely recall this with clarity, but way back in 1987, when actor Bruce Willis was riding high in Hollywood, he began to, perhaps misguidedly, branch out. He released a blues record called "The Return of Bruno," a concept album consisting mostly of covers that was said to trace the rise and success of a fictional alter-ego named Bruno Radolini. In a tie-in TV special the same year, Willis played the titular Bruno in a mockumentary about the character. Many people bought "The Return of Bruno" as a pop culture curio, more eager to mock Willis than to give his music a chance. These days, few remember "Bruno," and those that do only bring it up for reasons of kitsch.
Even fewer people, however, will remember an additional return of Bruno. Willis, it seems, wasn't done.
In 1996, Willis co-created and starred in an animated series called "Bruno the Kid," a comedy...

Some of the best written TV shows are anime series. Adult animations are often underrated because of the animated aspect, but they're more often than not incredible heavy hitters. Japanese anime writers especially have the ability to reach a certain core with their intricate dialogue and strong characters. And yes, there are silly anime series that often feel absurd, but they can carry strong messages in their core. Similarly to Western shows like The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Rick and Morty, for example, anime can be a social critique, a character study, and satire just as much as the next live-action show.

Common Side Effects was created by Joseph Bennett and Steve Hely, the former also being the creator of the vastly underrated Scavengers Reign, which Daniels produces. There are few details about the proposed reboot yet, but it appears Joss Whedon isn’t in the picture.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is frequently found on lists of the best TV shows of the 1990s, and with good reason. The series was a model for other shows of the period, with its season-long story arcs and its strong female lead. Now, a new report from Variety indicates that the show could be nearing a return, with a reboot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Key Details: Gellar would reprise her role as a recurring character rather than the show’s lead. Original “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon is not expected to have a role in the show’s creative team. A pilot order doesn’t mean the show will get a full season, but it’s an important step in that process. 30-Day Free Trial $9.99+ / month hulu.

Everyone knows the sound of Kathleen Turner’s voice.
Her sexy, smoky rasp most famously gave life to Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and although that was her first animated role, it definitely wouldn’t be her last. A few years later, she voiced Malibu Stacy creator Stacy Lovell on The Simpsons. A few years after that, she became the voice of Hank Hill’s boss’ wife, Liz Strickland, on King of the Hill, who famously tried to seduce Hank. And her voice career continues today with a recent guest spot on Rick and Morty and with the upcoming animated film Animal Farm, based on the famous George Orwell novel.
It was her time on King of the Hill that we set out to talk about during a recent phone interview, but that inevitably led to a discussion about her voice career as a whole and how that...

For five seasons, "The Bernie Mac Show" provided a hilarious and often heartwarming portrayal of fatherhood. The sitcom followed a fictionalized version of Mac, who still works as a stand-up comedian, but is thrust into fatherhood when he has to assume the parental duties over his two nieces and nephew. The premise is loosely based on real life, as Mac actually did have to look over his sister's kid for a little bit. But in reality, Mac was a proud father to one daughter.
"The Bernie Mac Show" has an almost timeless quality to it, whether it's the humor or the lessons learned. It was unlike any other sitcom at the time, or even today really, which makes sense when considering creator Larry Wilmore drew inspiration from French New Wave films like "The 400 Blows" when crafting the style. The show also featured Mac breaking the fourth wall to address the audience,...

When Adult Swim announced a new series executive produced by “King of the Hill” creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, fans would be forgiven for expecting a sharp yet sweet comedy. That is not what “Common Side Effects” is. Instead what premiered is difficult to explain, a series that serves as a tense conspiracy thriller as much as it is a bone dry comedy about ordinary people sucked into a saga that’s grander than they ever imagined.
In fact, “Common Side Effects” is a show so unique and unexpected, it confused the series’ original home at Amazon, which purchased the show in 2019. “We turned some scripts in, and they didn’t quite get it,” series co-creator Steve Hely told TheWrap.

Every viewer has their own opinions about the best cartoons of all time. While all different animated shows have specific aspects that make them appealing to the audience, some cartoons have reached a wider audience and have impacted pop culture.
Cartoons such as Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, and Pokémon have influenced generations of viewers, withstanding the test of time while evolving with modern culture. Others, such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Avatar: The Last Airbender, are great kid shows that even adults enjoy watching. These are some of the most popular cartoons of all time.
Updated on February 3, 2025 by Robert Vaux: Cartoons have become as much an integral part of society as live-action media. They aren't just for children anymore, but people of all ages who enjoy the animated medium. The most popular cartoons make for some of the best television available, and we've updated this list to contain even more of the best cartoons.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.
But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Sequel Series With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning Nears Hulu Pilot Order

In every generation, there is a chosen one — again.
Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

Adrien Brody, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for his work in The Brutalist, has come a long way from his surprise Oscar win for The Pianist, which in a lot of ways felt like his grand entrance into Hollywood. But he had been a working actor long before that apex, as he had steadily been in films since the early 1990s. Popping up in films like New York Storiesand The Thin Red Linehelped keep his profile on the rise, and he made it clear that he had a desire to work with respected auteurs who would give him new challenges. He established this early on by working with a then-newly minted wunderkind, Steven Soderbergh, on his first big studio project, a coming-of-age period piece called King of the Hill. While only playing a supporting role, Brody shows early signs of what would make him so special in the years to come.

The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is an institution that dates back to 1997. With a physical location and museum in Fort Worth, Texas as well as a substantial online presence, the organization seeks to "honor those men and women who have shown excellence in the business and support of rodeo and the western lifestyle in Texas." Upon its inception, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame was intended to recognize only horsemen and women but has since been expanded to include a range of musicians, professionals, and staples of western film and television.
The latest mainstream entertainment-related addition was television's cowboy phenomenon, Taylor Sheridan. As creator of mega-hit shows like Yellowstone, it was only a matter of time before The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame saw Sheridan's induction. Everyone knows that Cotton Hill killed fiddy men in World War II, but despite the efforts of a certain pump jockey, he nearly shot down fiddy-one.
In the entire King of the Hill canon, there is no single character who contains more multitudes, contradictions and complexities than the mercurial Cotton. He despises his loyal and responsible son Hank, yet he showers affection upon Hank’s own heir Bobby. He hates Japan and “The Tojos” for the loss of his shins, yet he loved a Japanese woman and sired a child in the Land of the Rising Sun. Cotton is stubborn, sensitive, self-aggrandizing, and, as one especially astute King of the Hill superfan recently noticed, self-destructive to the highest degree.
Earlier this week, user ronaldrios from the King of the Hill subreddit wrote a dissertation on Cotton’s near brush with harakiri in a thread titled, “Til Cotton Was Gonna Kill Himself.

By chance, a man finds a plant that was previously only the stuff of legends. He discovers that it has nearly supernatural powers to heal most ailments and injuries — even to revive the dead. Is his first instinct to share his findings with recognized scientific bodies? Definitely not: he’s pretty sure his once-in-a-lifetime find will mark him for assassination by Big Pharma, health insurance companies or the government — and probably all three conspiring together against cures that threaten their dominance. Can you even imagine living in such a world?
Adult Swim’s new animated series Common Side Effects has sci-fi elements, but otherwise seems to take place in a perfectly recognizable America, where pharmaceutical companies prioritize profits over social responsibility or care for its patients, and intractable student debt keeps desperate employees trapped in jobs for immoral employers. Basically, it’s come along just in time for the “Free Luigi” moment.

Following a tragic house fire at his residency in San Antonio, Texas, King of the Hill actor Jonathan Joss is now without a place to live while he mourns the death of his dog.
According to San Antonio news outlet Ksat, firefighters arrived at Joss’ house early on Thursday afternoon after receiving a call about a house fire, but they weren’t able to extinguish the flame before the home that Joss’ father built in 1957 burnt down. Joss wasn’t in his house at the time of the blaze, but the fire did trap one of his two dogs in the collapsing home, killing the pet. Joss, 59, is best known for taking over the voice role of John Redcorn on King of the Hill in the show’s second season following the death of the original actor Victor Aaron.

One of South Park's many strengths is its singular voice. Since its inception, South Park has always attempted to steer its own course and not give way to the trends of any other animated TV show, like avoiding making the show about a family (which was popular with The Simpsons and King of the Hill at the time). South Park has always stuck to its lane and attempted to push the bar. The show has never changed hands in leadership, always remaining under original creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who have only committed to making the show bigger and better. That's why it almost comes as a shock that the show once entirely ripped off a College Humor sketch for dialogue in one of its episodes. As wrong as it sounds, it was an honest mistake.

Fans are rediscovering the underrated sequel to a critically well-received animated blockbuster on Disney+. 2014's Rio 2 brought back Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway but debuted to less acclaim, grossing slightly more than the 2011 original on a bigger budget.

Although Hank Hill may prefer the musical stylings of Willie Nelson and Jethro Tull, he has emerged as an unsung hero of a campy pop subgenre, his now-iconic outburst at a Cigarenders meeting serving as the inspiration for hyperpop duo 100 gecs’ single, “money machine,” now at 110 million listens on Spotify and counting.
Hank’s road to hyperpop stardom was born at roughly the same time as many of the genre’s Gen Z fans — in 1997. Attending a stop-smoking support group alongside his wife Peggy and his son Bobby during Season One’s “Keeping Up with Our Joneses,” a cranky, nicotine-deprived Hank didn’t mince words when the meeting’s host dared to question his willpower.
“You’re callin’ me weak?” he snapped. “Look at your little birdy arms, they’re no thicker than a cigarette! I could smoke them little arms!”
If this refrain sounds familiar, you’re not huffing...

It's now been 28 years since King of the Hill premiered on Fox, and while Season 1 of the animated sitcom is obviously a bit dated, it captures what has given the show staying power for nearly three decades. It may not look pretty, but it has characters and stories with which anyone can identify. Those first 12 episodes lay the groundwork for years of growth and laughter -- as much as any live-action sitcom.
King of the Hill follows Strickland Propane assistant manager Hank Hill, his wife Peggy Hill, their son Bobby Hill, Peggy's niece Luanne Platter and their neighbors as they navigate daily life in Arlen, Texas. It's the product of the combined genius of Beavis and Butt-Head's Mike Judge and The Office's Greg Daniels, and it works because the show is as blue-collar as Hank himself. Other shows might be bigger or more full of surprises, but...

King of the Hill was a strong show from the very beginning. In its first year, Entertainment Weekly and Time included it on their Best TV of the Year lists. But, it truly defined itself and stood out from other Fox animated series like The Simpsons with its bold two-parter “Propane Boom” and “Propane Boom II: Death of a Propane Salesman.” “Propane Boom” was the Season 2 finale and ended with an explosion at Mega-lo-Mart while Hank Hill (Mike Judge), Luanne Platter (Brittany Murphy), and Buckley (David Herman) were inside. Between episodes, Fox ran promos speculating which of these characters had died. The cliffhanger and the subsequent character death were more than a publicity stunt. They were an important arc that showed audiences exactly how good King of the Hill could be.

Mike Judge is known for creating some of the most iconic comedy shows of the past few decades, including Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, as well as hit comedy films like Office Space and Idiocracy. But we finally know the fate of his latest project, In the Know, and it won't have similar success — the Peacock show has been cancelled by the streaming service after a single season, according to Deadline. The series was Peacock's first attempt at an adult animation show, but a second season apparently won't be happening.

It's the end of the line for In the Know, which has learned its fate one year after its debut on Peacock. The series, a political satire show made with stop-motion animation mixed with real interview footage, will not be returning for Season 2.
Per Deadline, Peacock has officially canceled In the Know after one season. The series premiered on the streaming platform on Jan. 25, 2024, having since stayed on the bubble while awaiting its fate. The show was serving as an experiment of sorts, as it marked the first adult animated series that was made as a Peacock original. This experiment does not seem to have worked out.

Animation has been around since 1907, with animated sitcoms gaining popularity during the 1960s thanks to shows such as The Flinstones and The Jetsons. Exploring many genres and animation styles, every animated show has a certain factor that makes audiences love it — and, over the years, fans keep coming back.

There's quite a bit of similarity between Frank Herbert's "Dune" series and the "Star Wars" franchise created by George Lucas. Both draw from writer and literature professor Joseph Campbell's idea of "The Hero's Journey" from his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," both feature "chosen one" narratives, both have giant toothy worm monsters that live in the desert, and both have lots and lots of sand. Desert planets play a big role in both "Star Wars" and "Dune," and they also contain something the franchises seem to share: spice.
In both "Star Wars" and "Dune," there is a substance called spice, but are they the same thing? Let's take a deeper look at the spice melange of "Dune" and the illicit substances collectively called spice in "Star Wars" to determine the differences once and for all.

Murphy died on December 20, 2009, and Katie O’Grady, who worked alongside her on her final film Something Wicked, described Murphy as being like “a little bird you wanted to be around and you wanted to help.”
O’Grady told People magazine that Murphy’s cast and crew were all concerned and mindful of Murphy’s physical and mental condition, and tried to be “soft” with her while on set. O’Grady recalled the late actress looking “frail” and noticeably “going through a hard time” while filming the movie.
And O’Grady told the magazine of Murphy: “She made moments and she created moments with everybody that she met to the best of her ability that she could with the energy that she had.”

Adult Swim has announced that Common Side Effects, a new series that follows what happens after a mysterious healing mushroom is discovered, will debut on Sunday, February 2, at 11:30 p.m. Et/Pt.
The half-hour series comes from Joe Bennett (Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (Veep). It is executive produced by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels (King of the Hill).
The half-hour series follows Marshall and Frances, two former high school lab partners who share a secret: Marshall has discovered the world’s greatest medicine, a mushroom that can heal almost anything.
But getting it out into the world won’t be easy – the DEA, big pharma, and international businessmen are all on the chase to stop them.
“Joe and Steve have created something incredibly original with a series that is thrilling, beautiful and deeply funny,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen.
“It’s top-level television that challenges expectations and raises profound questions.
