  • ...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya is a pretty ordinary love story. The movie is directed by Rahul Rawail, and he takes a lot of the romantic plot elements from his own 1983 classic Betaab, which was a very successful romance of its time, launching the careers of Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. Maybe it was an intentional reference to the film, but the lack of originality did bother. This film stars Sunny's younger brother Bobby and marks the debut of none other than the beauty Aishwarya Rai. Just like Betaab, this one is a hate-to-love romance. As said, it's got nothing particularly new or special to offer, but the movie is actually not that bad and it's been a pretty enjoyable one-time watch for me. Bobby Deol never was a favourite of mine, but he was quite okay in some of his movies throughout the 1990s, and here too he is alright. Aishwarya Rai is beautiful, well, of course. Where acting goes, she too is okay and does a decent job for a debut movie. Actually no one could predict that this girl would go on to deliver some fantastic performances, even if today people love to hate her. Shammi Kapoor is in this film, and he's very likable as the grandpa. Anupam Kher is also funny as usual. The movie's soundtrack is very good, and it is actually one of the few soundtracks composed by the great singer and musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. "Jagi Hui Fizayen" is my favourite number. To sum it up, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya is an ordinary mainstream romance, it has nothing particularly good, but it has its moments and can be watched with the family.
  • I do not think "...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" is a bad film--as it's current rating of 4.3 would seem to indicate. On the other hand, the film certainly has its flaws and is really no more than an incredibly nice looking time passer. It should have been better.

The story in "...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" is a bit confusing and is a bit like snippets of several different love stories all tossed together. It begins with a young woman, Ashi (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), being told that her family was arranging a marriage for her. However, a friend recently learned that her arranged husband was horrible--and Ashi is afraid this could also happen to her. So, she gets her family to agree to let her travel to Switzerland to meet him and determine what sort of man he really is. And, as part of her plan, she will not initially tell him who she is. Once there, she meets a very handsome man but with all his lying and her lying, it really does get a bit confusing. And, out of the blue, several STRANGE twists occur--leading to one of the dumbest endings I've seen in a film. MUCH more occurs in between--but because our reviews need to be under 192392341 words (or something like that), I'll get to what I thought of the film...

On the positive side, this is one of the most beautiful films I have seen in ages. Part of it are the stars--Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bobby Deol. Rai Bachchan in particular is absolutely gorgeous (as always). And, when you put these two handsome actors in the scenery of the Swiss and Bavarian Alps, you can't help but be enthralled. I loved the mountainside scenes (which looked a lot like the setting for "The Sound of Music"). It was a pretty, pretty film. But, on the other hand, the writing was second-rate. In particular, I really hated Rai Bachchan's character for much of the film. She played a VERY clichéd sort--the woman who is angry for no apparent reason! I've seen this in quite a few Indian films, but American ones sometimes use this cliché--one that makes it hard to really like the heroine. Here, she storms around in a perpetual petulant mood for the first half of the film and she was angry that Bobby lied to her---after CONSTANTLY lying to him and behaving terribly. Additionally, the film ended horribly. Not only was the airplane scene stupid and irresponsible (no one can do THAT at the airport without facing years in prison!!), but it was done sloppily. Sometimes the plane was a 747, other times it switched to a different plane! But worse was the CGI used in the climax--it was horribly ugly and looked 100% fake. And, when a film ends this badly, it's bound to leave a lasting impression. Overall, a very flawed film but one you can still enjoy provided you aren't expecting much. But a 4.3?! I don't get such a ridiculously low score.
  • Warning: Spoilers
She plays a girl spoiled rotten by her wealthy grandfather, and Aishwarya Rai plays this part effortlessly. Troubled by the death of a friend who recently got married then killed herself (because of atrocities committed by her husband) Ashi (Rai) decides to go and spy on the man her family is setting her up to get married to. Bobbi (Bobby Deol) is the cocky business man who Ashi has come to Thailand to spy on but little does she know that he is secretly in love with her as well. A funny game of cat and mouse ensues that makes up the most part of the film. Nice songs {but brace yourselves, there are 12 of them}, great costumes, decent script and a blissful backdrop.
