  • Bachchan's films post 1997 were flopping like no day this is his only hit those days

The film was a remake of BAD BOYS(first half)

It's a David Dhawan comedy so there are lot of funny situations but the movie is a cool timepass entertainer

The first half is full of fun with romance too

The second half is more on the robbers lookalikes of Bachchan and Govinda and the film gets more funny but sometimes sort of crude too considering it being made by DD

Climax is funny too but too overdone

Direction by DD is good Music is okay

Amongst actors Amitabh looks aged and wrinkled but does his part very well and pairs off well with Govinda and in the other role he does a great job as the Bihari robber Govinda suits such roles to the T and is a pleasure in both roles Amongst rest Ramya and Raveena are the heroines Anupam Kher is as usual Paresh Rawal is alright Sharat Saxena is okay
  • Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is the Indian version of Bad Boys, but with the Indian songs which are not so bad. amitabh Bachan Should have been replaced with someone with more humour. Maybe akshay kumar. govinda was good. i really enjoy his dance moves. Raveena was beautiful as usual. Paresh Rawal was awful in performing his role. he should continue do his Role as a comedian. i mean compare his performance with Tchéky Karyo's, who was he villain in bad boys, there is a huge difference. bollywood can never beat Hollywood.

if you don't have anything else to watch, definitely give it a try. i liked it, its quite funny when you compare it to bad boys! it was a good try, but maybe next time with a better performance.
  • Bade Miyan Chote Miyan review :

A much needed hit for Amitabh Bachchan in his otherwise dull late 90s phase; Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM) saw him collaborating with the super successful Govinda - David Dhawan jodi for a mindless zany entertainer which struck the right chord with the audience.

Released during Diwali weekend in 1998, BMCM was inspired from multiple sources from Bollywoods Angoor (1982) to Hollywoods Bad Boys (1995). It had both Amitabh and Govinda in double roles - as cops and chors- whose "adla badli" leads to some hilarious situations. Kader Khan in a cameo, is also in a double role and that restaurant scene still makes me laugh. So does Satish Kaushik's Sharafat Ali and his jhonga jeep story..

The sexy Ramya Krishnan was cast opposite Big B while Raveena Tandon grooved with Govinda to "Kisi Disco mein jaaye". The only film to feature Amitabh and Madhuri together, the Makhna item number became the films highlight.

This was amongst the last hit of Amitabh's glorious innings as lead hero (starting from early 70s) and he began a fresh innings in 2000 by taking on the highly appreciated character role in Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein as well as appearing as the host in Kaun Banega Crorepati. New millenium - new change. Thats Bachchan Senior for you who always re-invented himself with the times.

As for BMCM, it remains a complete timepass entertainment leaving you no time to think and ponder; I still enjoy it whenever it plays on satellite tv. Dont miss if you havent seen yet!!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni
  • This is a David Dhavan slapstick comedy starring Govinda as usual but also Amitabh in his third come back film after Mrityudaata and Major Saab. Although the other two have not been so succesful, I think this one will be. Govinda and Amitabh star as two police inspectors under the auspices of their senior, Anupam Kher. The beginning part is very reminiscent of the Will Smith film Bad Boys. Basically, the two heroes are sent to investigate a series of murders which have involved the bad guy Paresh Rawal. For a string of reasons, one of the main witnesses (Ramiya) will only speak to Pyare Mohan (Govinda) but at the time only Inspector Arjun (Amitabh) is available, so Amitabh has to assume the identity of Govinda's character and take the lady to Pyare's flat where he has to pretend to be Pyare. Obviously as a result, the real Pyare has to go to live in Arjun's house, where Arjun's mother and younger sister live. To spice matters up Govinda is in love with Arjun's sister (played by Raveena Tandon) and Amitabh is not at all pleased by this.

All seems to be going well until just before the interval when Bade Miya (Amitabh again in a dual role) and Chote Miya (Govinda in a dual role) arrive. These two are petty theives from the village. Inevitably, confusion ensues as the two sets of characters are mistaken. Our inspector heroes are suspended for a string of misdemeanours which they have not been a party to and they cannot understand why! All of this leads up to a climactic ending.

This film is very funny. It won't change your life or make you think but it will definitely keep you entertained for its duration. Amitabh is on top form. His comedy is up to Don or Laawaris standard and his dancing is great. He may not have the muscles of Sunny or Shahrukh but he is convincing in his action scenes. Govinda, however, is fantastic. He is now a master of this type of role after the likes of Raja Babu and Coolie no 1. Our female leads do not have much to do, but there is a very welcome guest appearance from Madhuri, including the song "Makhna". This is a treat for film fans as it is the first combined screen appearance of Amitabh and Madhuri.

In short, I highly recommend this film but only to those who watch films to be entertained rather than educated or to have their lives changed!

    Warning: Spoilers
Amitabh is my all time favorite actor, but this movie is an embarrassment of epic proportions. An aged Amitabh trying to pass himself off as a much younger person. Even today when this movie is telecast on the telly every frame is painful to watch Amitabh with a pot belly, sagging face, in an ill fitting wig, trying to match a much younger in his prime Govinda. I guess desperate time calls for desperate measures. Dialogues were a redeeming factor of the movie. Copy of scenes from hollywood movie "Bad Boys" was quite apparent. Amitabh is a legend with an illustrious career but this movie should be one of the lowest point of his career.
  • One of the best "Amitabh comeback" movies I liked. This was the phase when Govinda was going strong with Dhawan. The songs were awesome and totally as we call it "masti" type. An evergreen entertainer with the likes of the multifaceted Anupam Kher chipping in. The story line has a lot of hilarious twists and turns as is known for David Dhawan's potboilers. With a timely appearance by Mrs.Madhuri "Nene" Dixit, it was a total riot towards the end. It was great to see Amit perform with such force and humor after a long exile. Although some may consider it a typical "Bollywood Masala" movie, I would watch it any day. I am giving it an easy 8 out of 10 just for being pure Bollywood.
  • If you r in mood for fun...and want to just relax and enjoy...bade Miyan Chote Miyan is one of the movies to watch. Amitabh started off pretty good...but it is Govinda who steals the show from his hands... awesome timing for and good dialog delivery.....its inspired from Bad boys... but it has Indian Masala to it... people think it might be confusing and stupid...but the fact that David Dhavan is directing and Govinda is acting... should not raise any questions....other recommended movies in the same genre(David Dhavan/Govinda combo)...are Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Raja Babu, Saajan Chale Sasural, Deewana Mastana, Collie no. 1, Jodi no. 1, Hero no.1, Haseena Manjayegi, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah.
  • I strongly believe remakes (no dubs) are original enough to be given independent rating. Hence I would benchmark BMCM(Bade Miyaan CHote Miyaan) with itself.

Give your brains, stressed minds some rest and laugh your heart out watching this fun riot. Govinda's funny accent, coupled with Amitabh's acting, Satish Kaushik's on-liners this movie has everything that entertainment can define.

Agreed that the actresses in this movie were dampeners, but their roles were not. The movie has terrific one liners, comical setup, exciting and funny finish. Songs are colorful and funny too. Best one for me being "Makhna..." with Madhuri.

It is surely one of those movies which you can pick up when you are not sure what to watch. Go for it folks!
  • Today when I was browsing through one of the list of best bollywood laughs I saw this movie rated as 5.6 . It was shocking for me because this movie is one of the greatest laugh riots ever made in bollywood. The duo of David Dhawan and Govinda continues to create magic and the result is a cracking slapstick comedy. Govinda however outperforms every other actor but still Amitabh, Raveena and Paresh are suited in their role. The confusion of double role heightens the laughter with tongue in cheek dialogues.Though you miss Kadar Khan(however he has a guest appearance) but Satish Kaushik and Anupam Kher are awesome in their roles. There is only one reason to miss this movie, if you do not like Govinda otherwise I strongly recommend this hilarious musical drama.
  • This movie came at a time when every big heroine wanted to act opposite either to the Khans or Govinda. Govinda was at the top of his game in those days. Even his flop movies used to do more business than average movies. Especially David Dhawan and Govinda combination was like Shahrukh-K Jo combination.Amitabh was trying his hand at his comeback. He desperately needed a hit at that time. This movie and "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" were released on the same day. Though KKHH went on to become a blockbuster, this movie was nonetheless entertaining.Raveena was probably the only actress after Karishma who could match up to Govinda's standards. Even though she was nothing when compared to Karishma who shared an incomparable chemistry with Govinda, she was only other possible alternative. This was the second last time Amitabh had a heroine opposite him(the last being "Suryavansham"). Though he looked old, but curvaceous and wholesome Ramya Krishnan was not a wrong choice to be casted opposite him.Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik provided full entertainment in supporting roles. Songs were typical Govinda style with "Kisi Disco Mein Jaayein" and "Makhna" being the top chart-busters of that time. Bollywood was so much of fun in those days. If one makes these kind of movies today, it won't run for even a week, but it certainly entertained people in those days. One of the things to be noted was Govinda towering over Amitabh. It was evident that Govinda was in charge here and not the Bachchan.

This movie is very funny. Amitabh Bachan and Govinda are absolutely hilarious. Acting is good. Comedy is great. They are up to their usual thing. It would be good to see a sequel to this :)

    Watch it. Good time-pass movie

As a kid I remember being nine or ten and loving this movie. It was the all round Bollywood action/comedy movie. It is a imitation of Bad Boys obviously! The whole swapping identities but the arrival of two other twins throws everything out of the window and then the arrival of colourful villains who dance and sing! The action scenes in the film aren't revolutionary but still amazing scenes. The film is genuinely very funny and was the great comeback Amitabh Bachan needed. Govinda is a gem like always and this is probably his best work to date, he shines as the side kick nd delivers the best comedy scenes available in Indian cinema.

The songs....The songs are both funny and catchy..............proving laughs when you least expect it...Amitabh Bachan surprisingly is very funny and will make you laugh as 'Bade Miah'....his accent...body language..... Brilliant...

'Assi chutki naab re daal' is the best song..............Hilarious.

Full of fun - perfect comedy - great relief from the crappy 'love' movies - Amitabh & Govinda are great!!!
  • It is totally a laughter riot! Just watch it with cool mind and enjoy the ride. Great combination of Govinda and Amitabh and fun story. Review needs to contain 150 words so just typing this here.

Very very funny hugely entertaining It's a David Dhawan comedy so there are lot of funny situations but the movie is a cool timepass entertainer
  • The first 2 hours are okay, but then it just turns to garbage, but fun garbage nonetheless. The songs in this movie are great. I understand that the first two hours of the movie was supposed to be a take on the movie Bad Boys, but after the bad boys story line is over the movie just goes into a downward spiral. I give it a 5 out of 10.

(Amitabh Bachchan) is an icon, a movie legend, and one of my favorites. So my rule is: whatever the movie he made, I would watch it. But I find myself hoping that this rule may get its exceptions, since not ALL of his works, especially lately, is worth watching!

After some retirement from cinema, his fans longed for watching him in one of his great movies again. But the result was devastating. It was flop after another, and such an embarrassment for the Big B, and all of his audience.

At the start of 2000, I rented (Bade Miyan Chote Miyan) after watching (Mrityudaata), for a lot of reasons; one of them is to forget all about (Mrityudaata)! I found it on 2 VHS tapes, (Bachchan) was on the poster as a policeman, it had a commercial Arabic title stands for (The Foxes), so I promised myself "What an evening I'd have", and what a fool I was!

They want the guaranteed formula, so let's remake the American hit (Bad Boys) after 3 years of its release. They took nearly every inch of it, however ridiculously. Maybe the only difference was that in the original (Will Smith) ran on the street shirtless, but in here (Bachchan) ran in the street with his shirt on! After that particular scene, you'd watch another movie that you've watched before hundreds of times. So (Bade Miyan Chote Miyan) gives you the chance to watch nearly 2 previous movies for a second time!

Moreover, I couldn't stand the matter of 750 numbers, the non-comic comedy, and the dead pace for an action. But who said that this one is an action? It's a huge brainless musical comedy, with a thin plot of cops and robbers. However, the whole thing was too heavy, and totally uninteresting.

(Bade Miyan Chote Miyan) was unbearably super boring, a very shocking come back for (Bachchan), and far from being Great Entertainer, or even an Entertainer!

Going to sleep is of course better. Though if you watch it.. I'm pretty sure, you'll sleep in front of it easily, but with powerful provocation.

PS: At the finale number, while his singing, (Amitabh)'s head separates from his body, then comes back again.. How BRUTAL!
