James Edwards jokes about a possible candidate from the Army, calling him Captain America. Tommy Lee Jones would later go on to star in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

When Zed, Kay, and Jay are trying to determine where the bug will go to leave Earth, Zed gives Kay possibilities to look up on his computer while Jay is in the foreground looking at the picture of the UFOs from the World's Fair. In the background, you can clearly see Kay pretending to type in Zed's suggestions on his keyboard.
The animals and aliens used in this film were in no way mistreated and all scenes in which they appeared were under strict supervision with the utmost concern for their handling.
