Six years after making this film, actors Paula Marshall (Molly) and Danny Nucci (Joey) married in real life.
The project's genesis was rooted in Touchstone's hope that Leslie Dixon would pen a sequel to Outrageous Fortune (1987). The acrimonious relationship between Bette Midler and Shelley Long during production meant that script approval would have been an uphill battle. To avoid conflict, Dixon sidestepped the concept altogether and wrote this on spec with Midler in mind.
Although the movie implies that Rowena (Gail O'Grady) is several years older than Molly (Paula Marshall), in real life, O'Grady is only one year older than Marshall.
The film was swiftly removed from UK cinemas following the death of Princess Diana. This is due to the fact that Danny Nucci played an obtrusive member of the paparazzi.
