  • Origin, the creators of the Wing Commander series have been knowin for putting a large effort into their movie sequences and in this case, the work definitley pays off. The game is quite awesome, and the acting quality is basically what I'd like to call "Video game oscar winning".

For the video sequences in WC Prophecy being one of the main reasons for creating these intense atmosphere of the entire game, I just have to say : well done. I always hurry up to finish the missions just because I´m so excited to see the next video sequence. To the makers of the WC movie : install joysticks in the cinemas :-), add gameplay to the movie and start up a new era of entertainment.
  • Not as good as the previous one (Wing Commander IV), because the designers decided to focus more , but a great adition to the Wing Commander series, and the interactive movie gnere as well...
  • Comparing to the earlier titles, this game is less about the story, more about the combat. Even so,the movie sequences are nicely done. It is wrong to call this game an interactive movie, because you don't have much of a choice, the outcome if you win is always the same. Cool ending though! Christopher Blair (Mark Hamill)passes up the torch to Casey (Iceman's kid)! The acting is very underrated and much better than the acting done in Wing Commander:The Movie! If you loved Top Gun,then you will enjoy this one as well. This game kicks ass when it comes to flying your ships and taking out the enemy. The special effects for a game this old are out of this world. If you get a chance to play this game, you won't be sorry.
  • Unfortunately, the most recent of the wing commander games was one of the weakest. The two previous games (III and IV) were a great combination of predefined plot (video sequences) and user choices (how you fared in battle, and plot choices).

Prophecy was a step backward from this. Plot choices were eliminated. In fact, almost all semblance of a plot was eliminated. The plot is weak and fails to draw in the gamer. About halfway through the game, all the clips of talking with characters abruptly stop.

The battle sequences were typical. The new types of ships were great, but nothing new or revolutionary was done with the battle engine, despite the increase in memory and processor requirements. I expected more from this game and was sadly disappointed. I couldn't wait until I was finished with the game, unlike the others in the series.
  • I first got started on wing commander when I played part 4 The Price of Freedom and what an excellent games it was. Then hoping wing commander 5 would continue this legacy I was bitterly disappointed.

Part 5 has a very thin plot to say the least. They turned the hero of the previous wing commanders into an old coot and the acting is just damn atrocious which was a suprise because Mark Hamil's performance in part 4 was pretty solid. I guess he didnt try in this one because the plot was so stupid.

Shame on the origin team for release this poor excuse for a game and a movie, I feel it was money down the drain.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I played Wing Commander Prophecy and while the game play I found okay, I hated the storyline and the characters, in fact none of the new characters were any good at all! In fact it'd have been better off not using the old characters at all and just referred to them as it should have been set even more after the games.

Casey I thought was a jerk and I didn't like also making him the son of Wing Commander 1 character Michael 'Iceman' Casey I thought was a bit tacky.

Also the other new characters were uninteresting at best.

Also one bit I really hated was how Blair was portrayed and oh boy it was disgusting but I liked how he was willing to do his share.

Also after he gets rescued I was scornful of the scene in which CAG Drake refuses to let Blair fly the fact that Blair is a senior officer aside. Also despite being Commander Air Group she does not have the right to override anything cleared by the Captain also with the flight surgeon clearing him she would not have had any grounds to do so anyway.

Also any half-way competent Commanding Officer namely a veteran like Captain Wilford would have really put Drake in her place as letting her do this is not 'letting her do her job' but rather not doing his and Wilford would or should have given Drake a direct order to allow Blair to fly.

Overall the plot line was not all that good and could have been given more thought as to the other characters for that matter. Not to mention they could have been better. While emphasis on game play rather then Cinematics they could have executed it better those are my thoughts on the matter.
