Dramatized portrayal of the Apollo manned space program.
Actor Bryan Cranston, who portrays Edwin Buzz Aldrin, also portrayed astronaut Virgil Gus Grissom in the movie "That Thing You Do! (1996)". His Gus Grissom is interviewed on the make believe TV show Hollywood Television Showcase in the latter. Tom Hanks produced both as well as directed "That Thing You Do! (1996)" and segments of "From the Earth to the Moon (1998)".

In the first episode there is a scene that shows a Navy ship, the ship shown is a Ticonderoga class cruiser, the Navy commissioned the first one, the USS Ticonderoga (CG 47), on Jan. 22, 1983.
On the 1999 UK VHS version, Episode 7 (That's All There Is) had three uses of strong language cut out by the BBFC in order to avoid getting a 15 rating and to keep the episode in line with the rest of the series at a PG rating. When the series was re-submitted in 2006 for the DVD release, the episode was passed uncut (and with a 15 rating).
