Sex & Nudity

  • Several references to sex, as Kevin Smith's films tend to have.
  • In an extended scene an angel drops his pants to reveal that he has no genitals; the camera lingers on his naked crotch.
  • After she falls in water a woman's nipples are evident through her wet blouse, and we see pictures on a wall of topless women.
  • Some cleavage and a woman in a small bra and panties dances suggestively around a pole.
  • We see a man's bare behind.

Violence & Gore

  • The film features a lot of violence which isn't typical of a Kevin Smith film since in most his other films violence is almost absent.
  • Two angels shoot and kill several people in a boardroom (we hear screaming and see blood splatter on various objects in the room).
  • We see the aftermath of a massacre, with many dead and very bloody bodies all over the street; we then see that an angel is picking people up and dropping them (one man's head is splattered all over the ground, with very bloody results).
  • An angel's head explodes, splattering blood.
  • An angel has bloody stumps where his wings used to be; another angel has his wings shot off by a machine gun (blood splatters as his wings fall to pieces).
  • A powerful beam emerges from a man as a soul exits his body, which slices a woman's side (there is lots of blood, and she dies, but is quickly revived).
  • A man is shot with a machine gun (we see bloody bullet holes and his body jerks on their impact).
  • An angel stabs and kills a man (we hear the squishy sounds as he pulls it out, and see blood on them both).
  • A woman is stabbed in the back with a hockey stick and killed (we see a bloody wound on her back).
  • A man on a bus is shot and killed (off screen, but many people react in horror).
  • An angel breaks a man's neck and kills him.
  • A demon is killed with a golf club (a gooey substance pours out).
  • We see implied images of a massacre taking place on a TV (many people are shown with bloody faces and in panic).
  • In two scenes, an angel holds a sharp object (broken bottle, and knife) to a woman's throat and threatens to cut it.
  • Lots of fighting and brawling through the whole movie.

Profanity

  • Lots of blasphemy the movie most likely offend religious people such as Christians.
  • 104 uses of "fuck", often paired with "mother", and about 60 uses of "shit".
  • "Bitch", "dick", "piss", "damn", "crap", and "tits" are used a few times throughout. Nigger is used once.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are people getting drunk, using marijuana and smoking cigarettes throughout this film.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film follows two homicidal angels on a quest to return to heaven/destroy humanity.
  • A demon made of human waste emerges from a toilet. May disgust some viewers.
  • Dozens of people die in assorted bloody ways onscreen.
  • There is demonic imagery rather frequently displayed in this film with several demon main characters.
  • A woman working at an abortion clinic has a crisis of faith during much of the film.
  • God is seen and "heard" visually on the screen.
