An oddball journalist and his psychopathic lawyer travel to Las Vegas for a series of psychedelic escapades.
Gary Busey (Highway Patrolman) improvised the "Give me a kiss" line. The producers and Hunter S. Thompson were initially horrified by it, but Terry Gilliam thought it was funny, and left it in the final cut. Thompson said that after a few more viewings, he found the line quite funny.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like:
Raoul Duke: I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Raoul Duke: Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was ...
Duke turns on his turn signal twice during the police chase.
The credits literally scroll up the freeway.
