Oliver Stone was the first director attached to this film in the period after the first film's release. He reportedly wrote a treatment, but backed out, due to scheduling conflicts resulting from Tom Cruise's prolonged stint on Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

(at around 1h 45 mins) When Ethan shoots at Ambrose during the bike chase, the windshield of Ambrose's bike shatters. Sportbike windshields are high-impact plastic, and would not shatter.
Norwegian cinema version contained the extra violence just like the UK cinema version. The DVD release however did not include them.
