Identical twins Annie and Hallie, separated at birth and each raised by one of their biological parents, later discover each other for the first time at summer camp and make a plan to bring their wayward parents back together.
The first meeting between Meredith and Hallie, Hallie says "You talkin' to me?" and Meredith responds: "What are you, Robert DeNiro". This is a reference to the film Taxi Driver (1976), where Robert DeNiro looks at himself in the mirror and says: "You talkin' to me".
I'm going to take the lead. You two help Meredith.
Meredith Blake: Sure you'll help me. Right over a cliff you'll help me.
Hallie: Not a bad idea.
Annie: Yeah, see any cliffs?
In the scene after Nick falls into the pool, there are several shots of Meredith in which both of her hands are visible but there is no engagement ring, despite the fact that she and Nick are at the hotel to plan their wedding, and she asked Elizabeth to make her wedding dress.
During the opening credits, it says "A Nancy Meyers/Charles Shyer Film," even though only the former is the director.
