  • Back in the early '90's, The Jerry Springer show dealt with serious issues though not as popular as "Oprah" or "Maury", it still had its merits. Despite this, it paled in comparison to "Geraldo" or "Donahue". Donahue and Geraldo, on the other hand, were REAL compared to Maury. Its unfortunate that the the quality of this show reached its peak in the mid-90's, replaced with nothing more than sensationalism which says a lot about our current social and political climate whom in this day and age have been "browbeaten" and in a state of collective denial. The media is no longer the way it was; it is controlled by those in power with corporate and political interests. We are being fed what "they" want us to be fed. We are being "told" what "they" want us to be told. And its scary because the real power of this once-great nation is held by the people(supposedly)whose freedoms and ideals that make America the envy of the world are now being systematically eroded by what is now "corporate America". This show is proof of that.

This show, for the most part, doesn't benefit society in any way, shape, or form and its time people realize that. There's no logic, no sense of cohesiveness to warrant this as an acceptable medium. If people keep watching this show, then it is safe to say that they are systematically under "corporate America's control".
  • Once upon a time, The Jerry Springer show was actually very entertaining. It was very amusing and hilarious seeing losers, trailer trash, dropkicks, midgets, and generally very unlikeable people make complete fools of themselves on national television. Despite the show being in bad test, it was pure entertainment. The main theme of the show was often outrageous and politically incorrect, and it was entertaining seeing couples, lovers, and dysfunctional families fight each other on stage and security led by the bulky, bald headed Steve would get the guests under control.

Year later, after becoming a little older and wiser I checked out Jerry Springer after not having seen the show in a long time and I was dismayed that the show had not changed in the slightest although the quality of the show had gone downhill. The novelty had worn very thin over the years. The show I once found amusing was no longer funny and entertaining. Instead, I was repulsed by the show. How times change.

If The Jerry Springer Show is still classed as entertainment after all these years, then this is a sorry state of affairs. The show might get guests their 15 minutes of fame, but it doesn't improve their lives at all but rather make utter fools of themselves on national TV. Anyone who participates in the live audience should hang their heads in shame. Perhaps it may be time for Jerry Springer to call it a day.

Till next time, take care of yourselves and each other.

    3/10.
  • The Jerry Springer Show is unlike any show on television and not for a good reason.

The Springer show focuses mainly on violence and the people on the show are usually poor white trash. The topics on the show range from people cheating on their spouse, to transvestites and hookers. The topics used to have more of a variety in the past but now are mainly cheating spouses.

The people that come on the show do it to mainly get a piece of someone that has wronged them or to defend themselves. Calling the Jerry Springer show a talk show seems ironic because the majority of the show focuses on violence.

Usually the format of the show goes like this: someone will come out and tell Jerry what is going on in their life. After talking with them another guest comes out and the fight begins. Security separates them and Jerry asks another question or two. Usually the 2 people just go back to fighting and then the next guests will be brought out for a different story.

At the end of the show they all sit on stage when guests ask insulting questions. Finally Jerry gives his final thought as if they came to that conclusion because of the show. All of the side antics on the show are both funny and ridiculous.

So the bottom line is when it comes to the Springer show is it is purely entertainment at its lowest level. It can be fun to see trashy people fight or stupid issues but this show really does nothing to solve people's problems. It exploits those problems for ratings and makes it into a circus. So watch the Springer show for entertainment but not for an intelligent talk show or anything above wrestling.
  • 1 - Always expect one person to say "We've been married for (insert number of months/years here), but I'm here to tell you I've been sleeping with (insert name here)".

2 - Always expect the audience to say the usual things - "JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! etc.", "STEEEEEEVE!", "SIT DOWN WHORE!", "GO TO OPRAH!", "TAKE IT OFF!", "LO-SER! LO-SER!", etc, plus the usual cheers or boos or whatever.

3 - If there are any strippers on the show, always expect at least one of them to show part of their "anatomy".

4 - Always expect an audience member to "take it off" (and in episodes from 2002 onwards, expect Todd to give them some beads for that).

5 - Always expect to hear the terrible disclaimer: "Please take care of yourselves - and each other." 'Nuff said.

This crap represents everything wrong with America today. Society must be at its lowest point in existence if people can actually cheer for the immoral garbage that gets explicitly paraded as entertainment. Not to mention, the pain of others, the complications of a relationship, amplified greatly and sexed up, only to be presented to the world as nothing but unadultrated entertainment. One gets the impression that Jerry Springer is a true sadist, even if his stupid show is scripted and fake. The idea itself is bad and unethical. I don't know why the morons in the audience, although paid, have any reason to shout "Jerry!Jerry!Jerry!" when he does absolutely nothing on stage besides enjoying bleeding the masses? If America had any decency remaining in society, they would have boycotted this crap long ago. Its utterly pathetic.
  • its been 16 years and this show is still on the air i'm amazed this has to be the Trashiest show in TV history. What a horrible show needs to be cancelled real fast, because it sucks. All the guests are white-trash and are either cousins or related in some other way what a digusting excuse for a TV show. Jerry Spinger should give up. This show did get old real quick, In fact all talk shows are turning into this piece of trash. Maury is going into that direction, and we all know about Rikki Lake. They actually made a movie about this show what a waste of Hollywood money.

Avoid this show! 1/10 and if possible -10/10
  • Not that everything on television will be uplifting, informative, or made for the family, but this is not so much a "show" as it is an exhibition of the most base demoralized miscreants in our world.

If that entertains you, then more power to you. To me, it says that we have nothing whatsoever to do with our lives and/or our time, as to witness such a debacle as this. It's a sad statement of affairs that this show is even still on the air! I see no reason for this crap to be broadcast, visited, watched, or admired. With a 3/10 rating at IMDb, apparently many agree with this view, however, the ad dollars must be generating well, or it would have been axed a long time ago.

Honestly though, this doesn't even qualify as a guilty pleasure. If you enjoy watching this stuff, there's something seriously wrong with your life. Get up off the couch, turn off the TV, and go FIND ONE.

  • I do really dislike The Jerry Springer Show. Don't get me wrong I have nothing personal against Jerry himself, it's just the show. The camera work is very rough at times, the sound effects are just terrible and out of place and the audience is almost all the time truly unsympathetic, shouting obscene words at the guests or booing and their questions are incredibly derogatory. And that's not the only reason, there isn't enough of Jerry; all the shows are in standard half hour formats. But most of the half hour is seen watching the guests running around, swearing and hitting each other, or members of the production team making unfunny jokes during the end credits. Most of the guests are vile, and are disgraces to society to be quite frank, and there is nothing original about this show as it is pretty much the same thing over and over. And Jerry very rarely gets his turn to speak, other than to introduce the guests, explain the reason why they're there and say one or two words of wisdom. Also, you can actually tell the security people are enjoying what happens on the show, even when women are literally tearing each others hairs out. Sorry, I find this show horrible and pointless, even with Jerry. 1/10 Bethany Cox

This show is without question a national disgrace. Its no wonder people in other countries think Americans are nothing but a bunch of fat ignorant boneheads. Where do they find these creeps to be on this show? Are peoples lives really this bankrupt to go in front of a national audience to yell and scream profanities about who slept with who and what child may have been fathered by some lowlife.

If you have ever listened to Jerry Springer talk about important topics regarding politics you will discover he really is a smart well informed man. I mean he used to be the mayor of Cinninnati. He really must have been offered a lot of money to be a part of this pathetic show.

Americas greatest generation was without a doubt during the 1940's. What has happened in the time since? Americans used to be an honorable people who had self-respect and would never be caught dead on a show like this.

Can only wonder what it will be like in 60 years.....
  • If you think that Barney & Friends has been on the air ten years longer than it should have aired, I have news for you: Barney is only the tip of the iceberg, only scratching the surface. Only one other show has aired ten years more than it should have: the Jerry Springer show. What with all its fights and foul language, along with mature content, it definitely appears to be "too hot for TV", but what do they do? THEY SHOW IT ANYWAY! I think that they really go to the extreme, but they have not come up with my suggestion: Have Barney the Dinosaur appear on the show! Then, bring in Baby Bop and B.J., as well as some of his former "friends" who really didn't like him, and then have a fight break out! I think it would look very funny, seeing Barney tossed around all over the place! In other words, Barney would be perfect material for Jerry Springer, because he's made of "great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts!" Material like that is what I call bad television. Why are many people watching this show, anyway? Television keeps getting worse by the minute because of content-filled shows like this! There are several great choices for children to watch, but keep them away from Barney. The same thing applies to adults, because there are several great choices for them to watch, and Jerry Springer's show is not one of them. If you happen to appear on the show, I have two words of advice for you: CONTROL YOURSELF!!!!!
  • I was recently flipping channels and this show was on. This episode showed a guy abusing his wife and child on camera. It doesn't matter if the show is real or not, this is sick. Consider all the people involved with production, promotion, distribution, and presentation of this show and their total lack of morality and ethics. Every episode of this show is based on humiliating and degrading other people, and profiting on their pain and humiliation. Even animals don't treat each other this way, which makes me ashamed of humanity.
  • Wow the Jerry Springer show is without a doubt the greatest tv show ever made. Is it trash? Absolutely. Is it tacky? Of course. Is it exploitative? Hell yeah! The human race is not always sensible and moral so why not see this side of humanity. So grab a cold beer and some popcorn and revel in the filth.
  • Everyone knows what the jerry springer show is like. Jerry has admitted that SOME of it is made up, but I don't care, It's funny as. Infact I tape it often while I am at school. uh...

    JERRY JERRY JERRy

I did watch this show years ago and I thought it was a bit of a laugh. I watched two episodes recently and I was shocked at the way Jerry treated the poor misfortunate souls on the panel.

They pour their hearts out and all Jerry and his audience does is laugh and mock. If Jerry Springer and his audience are an indication of where we as a society are going then GOD help us all. Although I do think that Jerry will need extra help and I do not think he will get it from GOD.

It's not right, to make entertainment by exploiting the poor and the uneducated, it's wrong and someone will have to answer.
  • Most people seem to take it for granted that this show will always have its detractors and that "over-sensitive" types will never "get it." This show wears its quite superlative title like a badge of honor and it makes people feel good to know that they like something that "elitist critics" hate. Something that is very rarely discussed, however, is exactly why this deserves to be called the worst show in the history of television. While I believe there are many other shows that have done more to deserve that appellation (The Chevy Chase Show, the Real World, Touched by an Angel, etc.) the Jerry Springer Show is as good a choice as any given the competition. The fact of the matter is that this wasn't always "the worst show in the history of television," and I'll tell you why.

See, this show has had four distinct phases. In the first phase, it was a pretty regular talk show that didn't really stand out from Oprah, Maury, etc. Then it entered its glorious second phase. They started booking guests that were more -- shall we say -- interesting than what you might find on the competing talk shows. The guests and the topics were obviously different from what they had been before: bizarre love triangles involving crossdressers, Kristmas with the Klan, helping the morbidly obese, and so on and so forth. These are the ones that started the Jerry Springer myth. These are the episodes that got people talking. "Hey man, you've got to see this show." At this point, however, it still looked and felt like a normal talk show and it was conducted like one. And by that, I mean that Jerry actually tried to help his guests resolve their problems with as little heartache as possible. The man really seemed to care. He didn't treat his guests like the freaks most of us in the television viewing audience thought they were.

The third phase is where the trouble started. The producers got cocky. They finally realized how "cool" their show was and they started acting like it. They booked progressively weirder and weirder guests, with a pronounced (and often unsettling) preference for truly bizarre sexual cases. At this point, the show was no longer about conflict resolution...it was pure exhibition. Then the audience started getting in on the act. This is when the show was at the height of its popularity. It was this environment that allowed the disastrous movie "Ringmaster" to be made, not to mention the countless pay-per-view shows and the corresponding "Too Hot For TV" video cassettes. It was at the end of this era that parts of the show were more or less revealed to be fabricated. The state of Illinois told Jerry that if the physical fights on his show were real, that the people involved would have to be arrested on assault and battery charges. If the fights were staged, however, it would be a moot point and nobody could be arrested for pretending to fight. That of course begs the question "are they real or aren't they?" What a predicament; the fights were one of the reasons the show was so popular. If they were real, they would have to stop. If they were staged, they could continue, but what would be the point in watching a fake talk show? Jerry's response was calculated but revealing: "they look real to me." If you can't answer something truthfully and fully with "yes" or "no," it's a pretty good indication that you've been trapped like a rat.

So here we are now in the fourth phase of this show's existence. The show is no longer "hip" or culturally relevant. The show's producer is always seen off to the side grinning and chomping on a cigar, pushing buttons on a soundboard every four minutes. Jerry couldn't care less about the guests on his show or their problems; they're just there to be paraded around like freaks and if something happens to get worked out along the way, whatever. The guests are a fairly sad lot...they're typically presented as retarded hicks and they almost always confirm this suspicion by tearing their clothes off within twenty seconds of reaching the stage. I guess it goes without saying that most of these people are rather, uh, large individuals. There's even an attractive young lady named Angie who does pole dances before and after the commercial breaks. The worst part of this whole 'experience,' however, is the studio audience. I swear these are the rudest bunch of jackasses on the planet. They scream at the guests and belittle them and chant mindless mantras like "YOU ARE GAY! YOU ARE GAY!" or "BARK LIKE A DOG! BARK LIKE A DOG!" They sometimes stand up and challenge the guests to fights. When it comes time for the question segment at the end of the show, they either stand up and insult the guests in the meanest terms possible or they flash the camera for "jerry beads." Sometimes they do both. Anyone with a hint of a southern accent is automatically trailer trash and they hurl insults at these people simply because they know they won't be held accountable for their actions. And god help the poor soul who actually tries to ask a real question! If this is the case, the rest of the audience screams "YOU SUCK! YOU SUCK!" or "GO TO OPRAH! GO TO OPRAH!" until the offending person ashamedly sits down. Frankly, the audience members come off as even bigger freaks than the guests. All of these factors coalesce into a single train-wreck to form the backdrop for what is now called the worst show in the history of television. The content of the show has nothing at all to do with the reason it receives that title; it's the spiteful and arrogant way in which it is presented that makes the title an apt one.

Well what can i say... i personally think this is one of the worst if not the worst "talk show" ever, i don't know why it is on TV or how it ever got on TV, i remember watching it years ago and saw it on TV recently and i didn't get why it is still on TV.

Everything about it i don't get. I thought shows like this was meant to help people resolve their problems? all this show does is make people look cheap and make them regret it later in life... i mean why is there a pole? what has that got to do with the price of cheese? and when the audience shout for the women to pull her top up, SHE DOES!!! like wow, just shows how low people will go... and then the audience start lifting their tops to get some beads *rolls eyes*... i bet your mother / grandchild / child is very proud.

I don't get why people still watch it and i don't get why people go to be in the audience, nothing ever gets resolved, all they do is use the pole, fight a little bit and then get a body part out and then thats it the end.. oh yeah OK well Jerry does contribute i guess, by saying a word or two to make the audience laugh, that helps.

This show might be for some people and this review isn't meant to put anyone down, you like what you like i guess, it just confuses me knowing that some people do like this.

    I only rated it a 1 / 10 because i can't rate lower.
  • Apparently Jerry has run through every trashy geek, stripper, transgender and/or uneducated pinhead in America, and can't find any more guests because there haven't been any new episodes in nearly four years (since 2017). But society will survive (unless it is ruined by social media and the scum who run the major platforms). It seems like 90% of the "stories" presented by the tragically dysfunctional people on the Springer show were blatantly fake; they sounded like they had memorized their lines and recited them sounding like a grade school theatrical production. The famous "fights" featured mostly screechy yelling, hair-pulling and wild windmilling, which is funny because the women on the show talk so tough but cannot fight. They run their mouths about how they're going to beat some "b-word's" rear end, but when the offending female struts onstage and kicks off her shoes, it turns into a laughably awkward, slapping, hair-pulling disaster as the crowd goes nuts with delight. The men are little more skilled in the pugilistic arts because nobody has ever landed an actual punch In the history of the show. The most pathetic are the guys who tear off their shirts to intimidate their foe but merely reveal a pathetically underdeveloped physique.

The funniest part of each show, when there is time, is near the end, when all that episode's "guests" are assembled in chairs onstage and members of the studio audience are given the chance to ask them questions. More often than not, the "lucky" audience member either shows her breasts (to everyone but those watching on TV) in exchange for a cheap plastic beaded necklace, or they simply insult the guests who are most overweight by trying to be clever and making a fat joke. It's the bottom of the intellectual barrel... until each episode closes with "Jerry's Final Thought".

This show was so stupid I wonder if anybody has even realized it's gone. But the worst thing The Jerry Springer Show is guilty of is the spinoff show featuring the baldheaded former Springer security guy, Steve Wilko, the biggest loudmouth of them all.
  • Warning: Spoilers
How can this junk appeal to so many individuals? It's so fake and stupid, it isn't funny. I mean who cares about individuals making up problems, then getting into fake fights, and cussing a lot? Shame on Jerry for allowing individuals to come on his television program and make up problems. It isn't entertaining, it's pitiful. How this show can have the same format for so many years and still be on the air to this day is beyond me. I'm sure a good number of individuals could care less about a storyline around a man saying to his wife/girlfriend, "Honey, I slept with the babysitter." This show gives television a bad name and it isn't hard to see why. I gave the show 2 stars because I will give it one thing, it does have a few pretty guests here and there. But other than that, this show is plain garbage.

    oops!
I was flipping channels, honest. This big lady ran across the stage like a mad wet hen wagging her index finger at someone. I was like, this is tv at noon?! I saw a few minutes and turned it off. TT Trash tv! The sensored body parts and words, why? This is what ruined this show. No nudes.
  • I don't like the show. I don't want to watch it. I really wish it had its original format, then I would watch it. I am better off with Steve Wilkos (I don't watch every episode, but I do like him, since he has a sincere desire to help people). Jerry on the other hand admits he doesn't watch his show, and that it is a silly show (Jerry mentioned in Steve's 1000th episode that Steve's show is great), which it is... and not only that, it is a disgrace to American culture!!! People aren't getting help at all like they should be. I hope that when his current contract expires in 2016, he will be retiring and we will then have Maury to deal with.
  • The first talk show I ever remember was Donahue. My mom used to watch that which meant I had to watch. It was decent for the most part. Then the 90's came and with it a plethora of talk shows. They were pretty much the reality TV shows of the 90's. With so many talk shows out there you had to do something to stand out. Jerry Springer found that something and it was despicable. He found that if people are changing channels and they hear yelling they'll stop. And so "The Jerry Springer Show" as we now know it was born. He sought out the worst of humankind who would sell their dignity for $500 and a ticket to wherever he was. I never saw the show except I felt like I needed to take a shower. Jerry, his guests, and his audience made me physically ill. I pined for the day he was cancelled because his guests shed too much blood. Lo! That day never came.
  • Lately the View has become tiresome and nauseating with Rosie O'Donnell at the helm. But at least there is Jerry Springer. I first watched this show when it aired in the beginning. It never intended to become a down right outrageous talk shows with guests that are equally outrageous. Of course, they are considered white trash, usually the bottom of the barrel regarding class and status in life. Of course, I think Jerry Springer would be our next President if he wasn't born in London, England. He is charming, intelligent, and deserves better but he is doing a service to those people who tell their outrageous stories. Do they go to the show for free trip to Chicago to air their dirty laundry? What are their motives? Maybe it's because they can't get the help needed anywhere else. Jerry doesn't even admit to watching his own show. But the View has gone into cat fights and a subtle viciousness of dislike among it's hostesses that even Jerry wouldn't dare handle. Jerry's guests are not nice, formal, educated, attractive, or suitable but they are part of an America most of us don't see or choose not too. They are the disenfranchised. They more likely to be poor and work as exotic dancers or strippers. Oh well, as long Rosie doesn't come and ruin his show, it will succeed because Jerry is a nice guy. People are now beginning to see his appeal from his appearances on Dancing with the Stars. Finally, the audiences are beginning to see that with Jerry is what you see is what you get.
  • Please note, I am not a racist. I am merely being sarcastic with this comment.

Since the 80s with Geraldo, Talk shows have been pushing the limits, big time. While Oprah's family friendly long-running talk show is about to come to a close, the famous Jerry springer, whose show is possibly the most decorated of all time, still airs, with no end in sight, maybe til he passes away.

So why do I personally like jerry springer? Cause his show is so much fun to watch, and laugh at. it's the same old, same old, but the novelty never wears off. it's nice to see we still have a few racists left in society, so we can feel the best emotion of all time...anger. anger towards a group of people that need their faces smashed in with a hammer.

(flame shields up) it's also nice to see that both men and women cheat, so you know what kind of people to avoid if you want a relationship. you know, trailer trash, black people, Mexican border jumpers, Inbreds, your girlfriend's mom, all those kinds.

So if what i hadn't mentioned described the show, i'll do so now.

Jerry springer's show is a talk show directed at racism, cheating couples and wacky people. Sometimes jerry gets the KKK on his show (not so much anymore, because Steve isn't around to stop fights) but mostly he has love triangles and transvestites. Sometimes a wacky couple gets married, most of the time fights break out, and in the end, women in the audience flash the camera (which disappointingly blurs them out) and dances on the pole. if that's not a good American TV show, i don't know what is.

Remember, don't take jerry seriously. it's not meant to be taken seriously.

    7/10
  • Warning: Spoilers
This show gives us insight to why great empires and societies go into massive periods of decline, where the lowest common denominator is used to keep "bread and circuses" for huge throngs of idiots. There is nothing even remotely intellectual, uplifting, informative, or intriguing about these shows(and Jerry is but one of thousands).

I just don't see how 30 yrs. of fat strippers who throw food at each other, over a transsexual midget black man, who is also a clone of his brother's high school girlfriend, with audiences screaming and pulling their clothes off, and scripted garbage is possibly benefiting America. HELL, I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW IT IS ENTERTAINING, for that matter, at this point. The stories are BEYOND ridiculous and mostly fake, but either way, it is the most contrived and pathetic garbage ever conceived by mankind and put on camera for daytime viewing. You would be better off living in a swamp(as many of the creatures on Springer seem to do), if this is your prime source of TV entertainment on a regular basis.

Perhaps the only uplifting thing about this is the fact that every race and creed of people are portrayed as similar cookie cutter morons and trash. YAY!!! We can all celebrate the diversity of America's biggest douchebags and mental cases!!! Hurray!

Even sadder, Jerry Springer was once a mayor(no surprise that a politician gravitates to this train wreck of filth).

The episodes featuring "klan members"(probably friends of Jerry's backstage help) calling Jerry Jewish slurs and ugly names are especially ridiculous, as if any of this is realistic or likely in society. Every person up there looks like a 400 pound elephant or a carnival worker on meth.

This all adds to the degradation of Western society, just like the fall of Rome. Eventually, great nations or empires become empty shells of their former selves, overspending on crap, overexerting their military spending around the world, focusing on extreme decadence, luxury, and depravity; bringing in foreigners to replace all the idiots and heirs to the original successes who now worry about nothing but sex, addictions, and wasting other people's time and money, etc. This show would be hilarious if there weren't millions of losers actually enjoying it on a daily basis on every couch in the projects and trailerparks of the USA. They won't read a book or take an interest in world affairs or community/civic duties, but can't miss an episode of this mind-numbing fecal matter for the mentally-stunted idiot masses.
