When Jackson “Jax” Briggs was introduced in Mortal Kombat II, he was Sonya Blade’s shirtless muscleman Co and, for the game, roster replacement. For Mortal Kombat 3, Midway decided to give him an upgrade, fitting the character with metal arms, but gave little explanation for the change within the story. Those bionic arms just looked cool, and if his nemesis Kano could have a cybernetic eye, why couldn’t Jax get his own gimmick?
Originally, the story behind his new arms was that Jax chose to get the cybernetic enhancements in order to better protect Earthrealm from Shao Kahn’s impending invasion. The unfortunate Mortal Kombat: Special Forces prequel also explained that Jax had experimented with prototypes over his arms to make it easier to knock out Kano’s teeth, a trial run for what would one day become a permanent upgrade.
Little did his co-creators Ed Boon and...

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge looks cool as hell. The red band trailer released earlier this week seems to perfectly capture the tone of the game as it mixes together the elusive combination of fantastical martial arts storytelling, a tongue-in-cheek attitude and, of course, extreme bloody violence.
The film looks to flesh out Scorpion’s background, too, showing off the roots of his rivalry with the Lin Kuei clan and specifically, Sub-Zero. It appears to combine this tale with a loose adaptation of the first game, in which the classic Kombatants did battle against Goro and Shang-Tsung.
Despite Johnny Cage’s protestations in the trailer, the animated film will indeed be coming straight to home release, with the digital version landing on April 12th and the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray a few weeks later on April 28th. And now, we know what the special features will be, with the full...

The Mortal Kombat franchise has been adapted for the screen since the early days of the franchise, including to attempts to tell the games’ story in animated form. The first animated take was Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins, a tie-in to the first live-action movie, that included weak hand-drawn animations and segments of embarrassingly early CGI. A few years later, we got a season of Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, a Saturday morning cartoon that acted as a quasi-sequel to the live-action movie. It was below average but had its moments.
Quality aside, what linked those two attempts at cartoon kombat was that they were meant for a young crowd and therefore went against the usual blood and gore Mortal Kombat is known for. Rather than throw a harpoon into his opponents’ chest, Scorpion would just throw a rope or chain and wrap his enemy into a cocoon like he’s Spider-Man.

The latest Mortal Kombat 11 Dlc is a classic character. Check out Nightwolf weaponizing his spirit animals.
We’re a month or so into Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack 1 Dlc right now. So far we’ve been given Shang Tsung and they’ve announced two returning characters (Nightwolf and Sindel), one guest character (Spawn), and have been vague about two more on the way (probably Ash Williams and the T-800). With Evo 2019 kicking off this weekend, it's no surprise we're finally getting our first look at Nightwolf!

That Fatality is pretty cool and all, but why would you ever want to end your match with anything but that howl win pose?
Nightwolf first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 as one of Raiden’s chosen few who were mystically protected from Shao Kahn’s invasion. The character was introduced as...

He was a terrorist, a police officer, and an undead soldier. With Kabal making his return in Mortal Kombat 11, we take a look at his past.
In 1995, Mortal Kombat was at the height of its popularity. Not only did was there a movie on the way, but Mortal Kombat 3 was also making its way into the arcades. How big a deal was Mortal Kombat 3? Big enough that it had its own commercial... For an arcade game! You simply did not do that. Ever.
The game featured classic characters, new characters, and old characters with redesigns. Mortal Kombat 3 also scrapped the palette-swapped male and female ninjas, instead giving us robot ninjas and a new look for Sub-Zero. This was the only one-on-one fighter Mortal Kombat game to not have Scorpion in it. While he’d make his return soon enough, in the meantime, he was to be replaced...

I recently did a list of 1980s cartoons that I thought a lot of people had forgot about. Our readers really seemed to like it, and I know a lot of our readers grew up in the 1990s, so I thought I'd put together a list of animated series from that decade that you might not remember. We all have our favorites, like Batman: The Animated Series, Animanicas, X-Men, Spawn, and Gargoyles, but there are some cartoons that may have just slipped through the cracks of our minds. Just because these series are on the list doesn't mean they were bad shows. Although some of them definitely were.
Sonic Underground
Not only was this series poorly made, but it had a pretty awful theme song. The story is set in a completely different canon than any of the other Sonic the Hedgehog media. The ruler of Mobius, Queen Aleena, is overthrown by Dr.

NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat X which reveals that the evil sorcerer Quan Chi will be rejoining the fight. The latest iteration of the long-running brawler is set to release 0n April 14, 2015, on current and past-gen consoles.
Squaring off against the equally nefarious Kano, the trailer showcases the three distinct styles Quan Chi can wield. The warlock style allows the sorcerer to create portals that can lead to lengthy combos, while the sorcerer play style allows him to cast spells in order to improve attributes such as damage dealt and defense. Perhaps most interesting, however, is the summoner style, which allows Quan Chi to summon demons from the NetherRealm in order to assist him.
Originally making his debut in the Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm television show, Quan Chi has played an important role in the series since his debut. While he was featured...
