A dark adaptation of "The Miracle Worker", this film by George Rowe is heavy on tone and atmosphere. A fine acting ensemble led by Boots Anson-Roa, Vic Silayan, Tita Munoz and Nora Aunor, "Paruparong Itim" is a groundbreaking film in the early 70's that paved way to the Philippine moviegoers' awareness to quality film-making. Arguably a better adaptation of the above novel, this film wallows in hopelessness without a sign of redemption. Overall it is rather depressing.
