The player is a Starfleet cadet whose father was killed during the Battle of Wolf 359 fought against the Borg 10 years ago. Impish Q shows up and offers him to go back in time to his father's ship during the battle and try to save him.

During the game, the player must often make a choice between two obvious actions. Sometimes however, the correct choice is a "hidden" third option that isn't obvious at all and requires Q's outside the box thinking. In these cases, clicking all over the screen in hope of getting lucky usually works. This doesn't help when it comes to obtuse console puzzles. On the other hand, the player is sometimes required not to act in certain dramatic situations even though the characters imply otherwise.
