A young boy befriends a giant robot from outer space that a paranoid government agent wants to destroy.
When the Giant's hand is "watching" television, the clip that was to be playing would have been the opening to Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (1954), but the filmmakers could not secure the rights, and substituted the Maypo commercial instead.
Don't shoot! There's a kid in his hand! Kent, he only acts defensively. If you don't shoot, he's harmless. You gotta tell the general.

Dean's newspaper in the diner scene had an ad for BATTERY OPERATED MOON EXPLORER, which was a replica of the tin toy robots box front of the time. The same ad is mysteriously replaced by an ad for a lounge chair the next time the open newspaper page is shown.
The Warner Brothers logo is done in 50's art deco, as the Sputnik signal is heard.
