| Cringeworthy. Will I finish it?
SERIES 1 I've watched the first two episodes and have had to put the DVD aside. BOTH crimes were committed by gay people, although one is actually a paedaphile but in those days all gays were branded as paedaphiles. This was in 1967 when the law in Britain had just become more accepting of gays, but I guess writers still thought of them as outsiders and an easy/lazy target for attacking. In reality it would certainly have been the case in the police force where you are told off for being a "pansy." So for a look at social attitudes in late 1960s Britain this is an interesting series, if you can stomach those dark ages. Their attitude towards the policewoman is cringeworthy at times too. I realise later series probably changed for the better but give the first series a miss if you don't want a trip back to those dim days.
