Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson announced in March they will be reuniting onscreen after “EDtv” and “True Detective” in a new Apple TV+ comedy from creator David West Read. The 10-episode series will star the actors as fictionalized versions of themselves as they bring their families under the same roof on a Texas ranch. McConaughey recently announced on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast that the series is titled “Brother From Another Mother.”
While the series’ title evokes McConaughey and Harrelson’s real-life friendship over decades, McConaughey let it slip to Ripa that he’s actually questioning whether Harrelson is actually related to him. It all stems from the revelation that McConaughey’s mother knew Harrelson’s father, perhaps intimately.
“You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line,” McConaughey said. “And that’s part of our bromance,...

Matthew McConaughey broke news about his upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series with Woody Harrelson. During his Tuesday appearance on SiriusXM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, the Texas actor revealed the title of the show to host Kelly Ripa.

Both McConaughey and Harrelson were nominated for Emmys for their roles in the show. The two first worked together on the satire film “Edtv” nearly 25 years ago.

Apple’s bringing it all the way back to 2014. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the actors who led the first season of “True Detective,” are reuniting for a very different project — an Apple TV+ comedy series where the two Texan stars play fictionalized versions of themselves.
According to Apple’s logline, the untitled show focuses on McConaughey and Harrelson as they bring their combined families together to live under the same Texas ranch, testing the actors’ friendship in the process.
David West Read, whose other Apple TV+ series “The Big Door Prize” recently made its world premiere as part of the SXSW TV selection ahead of its March 29 streaming debut, created the untitled show; aside from “The Big Door Prize,” Read’s also known for writing the book to Broadway musical “& Juliet” and for his work on “Schitt’s Creek,” for which he won an Emmy.

After most recently gracing screens a dynamic detective duo Martin Hart and Rustin Cohle in “True Detective” Season 1, which premiered in 2014, McConaughey and Harrelson will executive produce alongside Read in addition to starring in the comedy series.

The U.S. version of "The Office" came along at a key point in the history of reality TV. At the end of the 20th century, the format had only recently been the target of ridicule and satire in the movies like "The Truman Show" and "EDtv." However, by the time "The Office" premiered in 2005, reality series like "Big Brother" and "Survivor" had come to dominate the airwaves. So rather than trying to fight the tide, "The Office" creator Greg Daniels embraced it, even going so far as to seek out a director of photography with personal experience in this newfangled form of entertainment.
Like the original British sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the U.S. version of "The Office" is a mockumentary series about the daily lives of the employees at a fictional paper company in Scranton Pennsylvania called Dunder Mifflin. Mockumentary TV was, of course,...

Guillermo del Toro recently unveiled new details for his passion project based on the “Pinocchio” fable, a dark take on the boy puppet for Netflix. At the same time however, Disney is still plotting its live-action remake of “Pinocchio,” meaning there could be two very different versions of the same story on screen in the near future. Those two dueling projects wouldn’t be the first example of twin movies arriving within months or weeks of one another. Sometimes it’s because of studios racing to adapt a popular IP or moment in history, because of scripts that float all across town or because of sheer coincidence. But we’ve had years with two mall cop movies, two movies about terrorist attacks on the White House or two movies about talking bugs and fish. Here are some other notable twin movies.

The airwaves are filled with a variety of different reality television programs. We follow the everyday lives of celebrities, of parents with children of multiple births simultaneously, little people, ghost hunters, and the list continue. Interestingly, there was a film made and directed by Ron Howard tht was based on a French picture called EDtv. It follows a television producer who singles out an individual to chronicle every aspect of his everyday life. While it was not reality television, it was definitely a forerunner. The classification of EDtv is comedy romance, but it influenced what is currently known as reality

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, who wrote “Splash,” “Parenthood,” and “City Slickers,” have been named the recipients of the Writers Guild of America West’s 2019 Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement.
The duo will be honored at the WGA West’s Writers Guild Awards L.A. show on Feb. 17 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
“Starting in the 1980s with a string of critical and commercial hits, the imprint Ganz and Mandel have left on movies is profound,” said WGA West president David A. Goodman. “Their scripts are always a balancing act; funny and moving, edgy but never offensive. They understand that in order for the jokes to work, the characters have to be compelling and relatable, but never lose sight of the fact that in a comedy, you need comedy.”
The duo received an Oscar nomination for “Splash” and won a National Society of Film Critics Award for best screenplay.

Shifting directors mid-production is tricky, especially with reshoots, and having a cast used to working with one director only having to switch to another. Things get scary. A lot of news has recently been going crazy with the fact that Ron Howard has now taken over for Phil Lord and Chris Miller as director of Lucasfilm's Han Solo movie. While of course, the studio will say everything is fine, it's much more interesting to see what the actors have to say, and... Woody Harrelson says everything's fine!

Matthew McConaughey's movie career hit the skids for the better part of the 2000s, with the mega-star taking on roles in a series of generic (albeit occasionally financially successful) rom-coms (Fool's Gold, Failure to Launch, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past), a quickly-forgotten Al Pacino sports-gambling drama (Two for the Money), a notorious big-budget flop (Sahara) and one totally inexplicable dud, the bizarre passion project that was Surfer, Dude. After spending the late '90s as one of Hollywood's premiere male sex symbols, America's favorite Texas golden boy hardly seemed to be trying anymore, and audiences responded in kind. Then he came back! The McConaissance, as it came to be known, arrived early the following decade, when the actor began taking roles in actual good movies: The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, Killer Joe, Mud. Then came True Detective and his Oscar-winning turn in Dallas Buyers Club, the twin jewels in his comeback crown.

It seems that Sony and Mrc are looking at Matthew McConaughey for a lead role in their big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. Apparently, producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer want their old EdTV star to sign on for the ambitious project, which would adapt the first book in King’s incredibly popular Dark Tower saga, The Gunslinger.
According to The Wrap, McConaughey has actually been given the choice to play either the hero (Roland Deschain) or the villain (Walter O’Dim/The Man In Black), but is currently leaning towards the latter.
If this sounds somewhat familiar, it’s probably because the Interstellar actor was also being sought for the role of Randall Flagg in another King adaptation, The Stand, but he seemingly declined that offer since it’s still too far away from a shoot date. 1. Matthew David McConaughey was born November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas to Mary Kathleen McCabe and James Donald McConaughey.
2. His mother is a former kindergarten teacher, while his father ran an oil supply business.
3. McConaughey's father was also...

For an actor who didn't get the respect he deserved until almost 20 years into his now legendary career, Matthew McConaughey has certainly been lucky enough to work with some amazing filmmakers. Last year's Best Actor Oscar winner has honed his craft under the eyes of Steven Spielberg ("Amistad"), Steven Soderbergh ("Magic Mike"), Martin Scorsese ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Ron Howard ("Edtv"), John Sayles ("Lone Star"), Robert Zemeckis ("Contact"), William Friedkin ("Killer Joe") and his longtime friend Richard Linklater, who gave him his big break in "Dazed and Confused." Surprisingly, McConaughey more or less tells HitFix they all come up short compared to his helmer for the expected blockbuster "Interstellar," Christopher Nolan. "I've never worked with a better leader," McConaughey says. "I cannot say I've ever worked with a better problem solver, and half the problems he just solves by pure will. Everything must keep moving forward. Keep moving forward.

How ironic it was that American Cinematheque, this bastion of all things honoring the history of film, would choose to give Matthew McConaughey its highest honor at a warm, funny and revealing tribute last night at the Beverly Hilton. Because among other things, McConaughey revealed he had actually only even seen two movies — ever — before the age of 18: King Kong and Orca. And though this non-cineaste didn’t specify which King Kong, I would be willing to bet it was the 1976 remake rather than the 1933 classic.
But as the evening proved, McConaughey — whom the star’s Interstellar director Christopher Nolan referenced as “the new Paul Newman” — more than meets the Cinematheque’s definition of this award for a distinguished mid-point career of excellence and contribution to cinema.
Of course there were many mentions of what is now known as the “McConaissance,” his recent spate of career-changing film choices beginning with The Lincoln Lawyer,...

There has always been an understated rivalry between the mediums of movies and television. Many years ago it was even thought as being somewhat of a drastic career letdown if actors/actresses from film decided to depart for the landscape of television. The truth is that for some performers that had stalled or uneventful momentum in motion pictures that the concept of “slumming it” in television actually saved their show business profession. Hence, the boob tube made them relevant whereas the big screen had unceremoniously passed them by.
However, there is also a mutual respect that cinema and television share that go hand in hand when shaping our appreciation for entertainment on both the big and small screen. When movies depict the aspects of the TV world giving a sociological, psychological or emotional perspective then it is not so uncool to be a proud couch potato after all, right? Let...

Ellen DeGeneres has suggested that the film Miss Congeniality is based on her.
The 2000 movie features Sandra Bullock as a police officer who goes undercover at a beauty pageant. Michael Caine also stars as a pageant coach who tries to make her more ladylike.
Speaking about the film, DeGeneres told Parade: "Miss Congeniality was written based on me.
"When I was getting ready to co-host the Emmys, the writer saw me [on TV] learning how to walk in a dress and heels. My stylist at the time - a man - was teaching me, and it was hilarious. The Miss Congeniality writer saw it and thought it was brilliant."
The talkshow host also revealed she stole a role from Jennifer Aniston in 1999's EDtv which starred Matthew McConaughey.
She added: "Jen Aniston is my friend and she recently reminded me that I beat her out of that. I got the part and Jen Aniston didn't!

Ellen DeGeneres may be on top of the talk show game, but did you know she beat out Jennifer Aniston for a movie role?In an interview in the March 2 issue of Parade magazine, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" host revealed that she scored the supporting role in 1999 comedy "EdTV, " despite some very stiff competition from the former "Friends" favorite."She recently reminded me that I beat her out of that," she tells the mag. Oscar Host Ellen DeGeneres Stole a Role From Jennifer Aniston, Inspired a Sandra Bullock Blockbuster
Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres and Jennifer Aniston may have taken vastly different career paths in Hollywood since their sitcom star days, but both collided in 1999 when auditioning to play a reality television producer in “EdTV,” and DeGeneres proudly declares in a new interview that she won that friendly battle. “Jen Aniston is my friend and she recently reminded me that I beat her out of that,” DeGeneres told Parade. “I got the part and Jen Aniston didn’t! Ellen DeGeneres and Jennifer Aniston don't often go up for the same movie roles—but when they vied for the same part in 1999, it was DeGeneres who scored the supporting role in EdTV. "She recently reminded me that I beat her out of that," the TV host recalls in the March 2 issue of Parade magazine. "I got the part and Jen Aniston didn't! That'll probably be the only time that happens." Given that the two are still friends, it's hard to imagine Aniston holds a grudge. And it's not like she wasn't busy that year: in addition to filming Season 6 of NBC's Friends, the actress also played Joanna in the satirical comedy Office Space and voiced Annie Hughes in the animated movie The...

True Detective: What Did You Think of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's HBO Detective Drama?
The Golden Globes weren't the only TV program packing major star power on Sunday night. While Matthew McConaughey was busy accepting the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his amazing turn in Dallas Buyer's Club, his new drama True Detective was debuting on HBO. Talk about pulling double duty! The series, which spans 17 years and costars his longtime friend and Edtv costar Woody Harrelson, who recently starred in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, centers on two extremely different Louisiana detectives working together on a grisly murder investigation. At the 2014 Winter TCA Press Tour in Pasadena, McConaughey and Harrelson took the stage to talk about their decision to...

Matthew McConaughey's transition - his "McConaughaissance," if you will - from rom-com stalwart to serious dramatic actor has been one of the more delightfully implausible career arcs we've seen. And if the eyes are the windows to the soul, then movie posters must be the windows, to what could be called a career's "elan vital." With this in mind, as McConaughey's latest project True Detective ramps up for its Sunday night premiere on HBO, here's a look at this surprising arc, illustrated through the posters to his films. Affable, grinning, and not yet in the practice of displaying his full body in posters,...

The year 1999 was a significant year for film in many ways. Apart from being the year that George Lucas began his Star Wars prequels with The Phantom Menace, it also saw the release of The Blair Witch Project, a horror film which became one of the first to use the internet as a marketing tool, resulting in a massive hit. The Matrix ushered in a new age of special effects filmmaking, arguably paving the way for the superhero blockbusters crowding into multiplexes today.
Mainly, though, 1999 was simply a brilliant year for film. Justly lauded movies like Fight Club, The Green Mile and Eyes Wide Shut aside, there were a huge number of films that didn't get the critical or financial success they deserved - so many,...

7. The Truman Show
Directed by Peter Weir
Written by Andrew Niccol
USA, 1998
Apart from the obvious death-match featured in The Hunger Games, the film’s text is thematically provocative, its allegorical elements highlighting the way the “Games” amplify today’s obsession with reality television. Perhaps one of the greatest cinematic commentaries on all-pervasive media manipulation is in Peter Weir’s The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey. For Carrey detractors, The Truman Show proves his talent reaches far beyond physical humour. Carrey remains in complete control throughout, commanding and exhibiting the charm and charisma needed for a role that calls for much sympathy and likeability.
Truman Burbank lives a happy life, but what he doesn’t know is that his life is completely manufactured within a giant domed television studio. He’s been the focus of a reality TV show ever since his birth; filmed, observed, scrutinized every second of his life.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Olivia Wilde
Directed by Ron Howard
Rated R
Yesterday I had a conversation with a friend about the films of Ron Howard, specifically which one was his best film. The problem in the conversation came when it took a good minute or so to remember which films Ron Howard has actually directed. Now that’s probably a statement that seems a little sad, coming from a guy who has seen a few films in his day, but Howards career ins sort of like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry talks about how his life is even-steven, lose 20 bucks, get 20 bucks back. Howard throughout his 30+ years behind the camera has been consistent, but I don’t think I’ve ever found his films to be anything but consistent. I will say this about him; the guy has never shied away from trying different genres and always with the same consistent tone.

For this list, blame The Hangover Part III. It was whilst walking out of that film that I got into a chat with someone, who was bemoaning the lack of genuinely funny movie comedies. Certainly, big budget Hollywood comedies have no end of problems right now - with the occasional exception - but I couldn't help thinking of the many neglected gems that had gone through my DVD player over the past decade or so.
As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

HollywoodNews.com: Much of the babbling over this weekends The Lincoln Lawyer has been about the idea that the well-reviewed legal thriller represents some kind of artistic reawakening for Mr. Matthew McConaughey.
As is the case with many old-school movie stars, the critics and the pundits have a habit of ignoring McConaughey’s more interesting films while highlighting his lesser mainstream fare and then reaching the conclusion that he is not but a paycheck hack. While McConaughey is certainly guilty of some questionable artistic choices, there does seem to be a whiff of genre-bias around this newest entry.
