Ewan McGregor turned down the role of Neo, as he was filming Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). Both movies would compete against one another for Best Visual Effects during the Academy Awards ceremony the next year, with The Matrix winning the award.

The second time Morpheus calls Neo, he tells Neo the line is tapped, and asks him to go to meet Trinity at the Adams St. bridge. If the line was tapped, the agents should have had plenty of time to get to the bridge themselves.
At the end of all the credits, the URL for the (now defunct) website of the film is given, www.whatisthematrix.com, along with a password, 'steak'. There's a 'secret' link on the page that requests a password.
