  • No way is the 1st half of this doc staged like many suggested. I got brought here after watching the Joker this morning and went on the hunt for the directors earlier work. Id seen the GG Allin one before and thought it was good. They are definately a violent and depraved bunch of people lol, hopefully USA universities have put a stop to these practices which show extreme bullying of what we call in the UK freshmen. The Joker turns the Batman franchise on its head. After The Dark Night being a clearly Pro Republican party movie, The Joker clearly had more left wing sympathies, its clear to all to see what brought Todd here from this doc. His Iconoclastic tendecies are much needed in modern cinema. Its certainly an enlightening experience to see how the priviledged behave in the University settings and the lack of governance from the University. If I was sent to University there, I would be quick to transfer.
  • Only monkeys yelling. They show how much people are or were abused to join a fraternity. Now ofcourse it is another level, poor people have to join the frats because they either do not have friends or do not have any other special quality.

If you have seen "full metal jacket" and how the sargent treats the soldiers, it is the same.

Only the strong survive? Is it worth it? Is the heart enough? What are they trying to prove with all those challenges?

I think it sucked but ok to know how some people's mentality is.
  • Listen people...I am the real star of this movie. If you want the truth...contact me at joelaudadio@optonline.net. Most of your comments are ridiculous, idiotic, and useless... It seems as if most of you are clueless about this movie, clueless about the efforts it took to make this movie, the reality of the film itself, the dangers of hazing, the sickness about myself and my true to life insanity... so get a grip...and understand this... BLOSSOM IS VERY REAL.... BLOSSOM IS BACK.... BLOSSOM IS ALIVE AND WELL... BEWARE As for the directors of this film...it was an absolute pleasure meeting Todd and Andrew. They are very talented young men, who will make it very big in their lifetime. I owe them quite a bit...for helping me realize the type of person I am, the type of person I want to be...and the type of person I can pretend to be...
  • Despite allegations of staging, this was one of the most entertaining documentaries I have had the pleasure of seeing. Even if some of the scenes were staged, you still get to witness the unbelievable torture that these young men had to endure. The film is a very guilty pleasure, and will make you cry with laughter. Forget all the controversy and enjoy this riotous film.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I was fortunate enough to get a hold of a VHS copy of this amazing documentary for a short span of time last year. I think I watched it about 10 times over the course of the week because I kept screening it for friends. This documentary exposes the brutal lack of individuality that breeds on college campus' everywhere. Watch as countless whitebread freshmen beg, bite, and steal for acceptance. These fools will do anything to be a part of the in crowd. The star of the show, Blossom, deserves his own series. His scenes can only be described as, Larry, Moe and Curly all wrapped into one living on a creatine/steroid diet. This documentary is a must see, and Todd Phillips narrations are well done. Its too bad that the frat boys got there daddys lawyers involved, otherwise the work of these two filmmakers would play to the audience it deserves.
  • This movie suffered serious criticism for paying the fraternities and fraternity brothers to act out pieces of the movie. The main school involved does not even pledge in the Spring, as this movie made viewers believe. A good movie to see as long as you realize it is developed to perpetuate the stereotypes the film makers have about fraternities. I did enjoy seeing the movie, it was well produced, and had a good "documentary" feel. HBO will not allow this movie to be presented on TV, and for good reason, it just is not true. There are several instances in the movie where brothers in the fraternity actually act as though they are pledges and act out scenes which supposedly happen in a fraternity.
  • LONGHORN-430 August 1999
This film is more fun than I can deal with! Find this film and watch it! It's brilliantly crafted and highly entertaining. every character in this film should have their own TV show! Todd Philips is a genius! This film is like Hated with 25 G.G. Allins!
  • I finally saw a bootleg tape of this "long suppressed" documentary & have come to the conclusion that the reason it was never aired by HBO (as was intended) is that there is NOTHING in "Frat House" that hasn't been covered before & covered in greater depth. Back in the 1980s the TV show "60 Minutes" did a 20 minute piece on frats that blew "Frat House" right out of the water. "Frat House" comes across like an overlong edition of NBCs tabloid show "Dateline". There was nothing shocking or revealing about "Frat House". Sure all frat boys are morons, we all know that. Anyone who so desperatley needs to be part of a group that they will submit to extreme humiliation is an overgrown adolescent wuss. Thank God for frats though: In my job I have to review resumes & I immediatley throw out ANY that boast of fraternity affiliation. Who needs a spineless follower as an employee? Anyhow, "Frat House" is a routine, by the numbers TV show & nothing else.
  • this is nothing compared to the real thing-

This is a relatively entertaining documentary. But it is a very weak representation of hazing. It depicts fraternity chapters at a few different colleges on the East Coast. They are all relatively small schools/chapters. One pledge class has about 10 pledges. Although I have heard people refer to this doc as frightening or horrifying (etc etc), this doc only provides a tiny clue of what its like in large fraternal chapters which haze. Multiply the things you saw in this doc by about 100 and you will begin to touch the surface. Hazing is actually much more ritualized and intense. It is not as ridiculous as the events shown here. This is disorganized and small scale.
  • I just saw this movie, and blow me out! It's a scary, real portrait of fraternities in USA made by two skinny, smart guys with glasses. Although, this is not "The Revenge of the Nerds" whatsoever. It's just a close look to the inside madness in frats. This is a story about noisy parties, people with affectional needs, humiliation, naked women and kegs. At some point it's hilarious, and it's great if you want a college discussion about it. Totally cool, but hard to find (for some reason, not in video).
  • I have a few comments about this film; First, I myself am in a fraternity and what is depicted by this film is not the norm, at least where I go to school. However, the hazing that the pledges (and at one point the filmmakers) have to go through is pretty chilling. I should have been able to have seen this on HBO, but instead I had to go to a film festival just to see it. I'm very disappointed that just because of potential legal problems HBO shelved this movie, one of the better documentaries that I've seen in recent years.
  • Brilliant movie, if anyone ever gets the chance to see this you're lucky! The thing is that it isn't a documentary, it's all scripted, I was fooled the whole time. That's why HBO won't show it, it's because they were tricked and so was sundance!

The creators of this project are surely some of the smarter film makers out there, even though his newer movies don't compare to the intensity this one does. Frat House is a must see.
