On his first day on the job as a Los Angeles narcotics officer, a rookie cop goes beyond a full work day in training within the narcotics division of the L.A.P.D. with a rogue detective who isn't what he appears to be.
When Hoyt wakes up from his nap with Alonzo's son, he taps him on the chest and says "see ya buddy." Similarly, when Alonzo gives Hoyt the "It's ugly, but it's necessary" speech, after Hoyt calms down, Alonzo pats him on the chest and the scene concludes. The chest pat is symbolic of a fatherly exchange in both instances.
Alonzo, there's two shots left in that other stinger. We need to just kill your boy right now and say Roger got him coming through the door.
Alonzo: We ain't killing nobody. This guy's got the magic eye. I can feel it. Just had a little freak-out, that's ...
Alonzo would have not been allowed to board an airplane given the physical condition he's in especially a bullet wound in his rear end, and most likely not last the flight time, hence dying on board, no matter what the destination is, since blood would be constantly leaking out of the wound.
