  • for generations of high school students, the novel of Camil Petrescu is a must read. and the portrait of Ștefan Gheorghidiu , one of the most known from Romanian literature. for Sergiu Nicolaescu , the novel was a pretext. for an interesting film about love, jealousy, fortune, war, fears, memories and need to know the truth. in fact, it is not exactly an adaptation but a form of translation in the terms of Nicolaescu themes. the result is far to be bad. maybe, only, in few scenes, artificial or too didactic. but the choice for Joana Pacula and Valentin Găitan in the lead roles remains an inspired one. and the performances of the rest of cast, the atmosphere of the second decade of XX century are the good points.
  • Cmil Petrescu presents a love story. He is drafted and forced to leave the woman he loves behind. While on front, that's all he thinks about and he remembers every moment he spent with her. Practically he goes insane over her. A really deep and hard to watch film.
