Two less than successful film producers, approaching mid-life crisis and clinging to their nerdy sci-fi obsessions, suddenly meet their idol: William Shatner.
Further, the credit "The Artist Formerly Known as Shatner" is a jibe at singer Prince, who for a period of time was known as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" due to a conflict with his record company. Shatner's attempt at rapping Shakespeare in the movie includes many Prince song references.

Young Robert: But what about in "Arena" when Kirk fought the Gorn? That giant lizard monster was three times as big as him!
