Silly satanic comedy
Eric Edwards is an instant choice as one of Adult Cinema's all-time great actors, but "In the Flesh" shows why his directorial career doesn't measure up. This silly comedy is near zero on laughs, just concentrating on cliches for a story of a virgin sought by the Devil's wife to be lured to sell her soul and go to Hell. Edwards wrote, produced, directed and even plays a dumb version of himself, so he gets the blame.
Rachel Ryan is hammy as Cat Scratch, wife of the Devil, left in charge while Satan supposedly is visiting the Sahara Desert. She wants to impress her hubby when he gets back, and comes up with a plan to get an ultimate virgin teen Chrissy (Stacey Lords) to sell her soul and go to Hell.
Doing an embarrassing Borscht Belt turn as a cringing sort of Jewish stereotype is Jesse Eastern as the submissive right-hand man to Cat. Edwards' dumb script has endless jokes about the heat in Hell, and is truly awful in interrupting the action frequently for news reports from TV anchor in Hell played by Peter North plus Alex Storm fronting amateurish satires of TV commecials.
Cast also includes busty Ariel Knight as Chrissy's pal Sylvia, who is more than a bad influence, and participates in both erotic fantasies and orgy scenes in Hell. Ray Victory is thrown into the mix in various satanic scenes and rituals, adding mixed combo action to the sex.
Most indulgent is Edwards popping up in Hell as himself (with Eastern announcing him as the great porn star and director) to direct a movie, with a low in-joke of him instriucting Peter North on how to maximize a cum shot. When the movie finally ends with a cornball orgy, Eric even shows a couple takes of himself blowing the lines for his final cynical monologue.
