  • Warning: Spoilers
No "Portrait of Jennie" here as triple-threat (master of none) Dave DeCoteau botches a perfectly good topic for Couples porn and wastes Karen Summer in the process. I say triple threat because this particular hack split his career churning out boy/girl and boy/boy Adult features before foisting some of the lowest-grade soft-core porn on a different audience. I'm not sure which of the three genres represent his worst.

A lovely portrait of Summer, making her look more beautiful than ever, hovers over the entire film (shot on video, of course), as overacting lead Buck Adams laments her absence. Both he and his dad were in love with Jessie, and only portraits of her and daddy remain.

Karen as Jessie's painting comes to life with terrible SPFX, puff of smoke and lousy editing and she gets to hump Buck from beyond the grave. A flashback featuring extremely poor photography (I'm glad De Coteau never tried to remake "Brigadoon") also lets us watch her hump daddy the sailor long ago.

Buck runs an art gallery and his British (and busty) assistant Stevie Taylor figures prominently in the romantic action, leading to a climax that is highly romantic on paper (escaping from our grubby real world into an idealized fantasy world) but utterly manhandled by auteur Dave. A lousy musical score by "Shelby" ensures this stinker won't ever be lumped with Selznick's "Jenny" or Preminger's "Laura".
