Desultory all-Black lesbian offering
The Adult industry remains unfair to Black women- while studs of color are in peak demand to churn out hundreds of lucrative IR titles, the hiring of sisters is endangered. Other than Skin Diamond, few femmes reach the star ranks, and gonzo is either lily white or aimed at the "big black dicks/tiny white chicks" fetish or similarly demeaning "Asian chicks" or "Latina babes" exercises.
This program devoted to African-American femme pulchritude spawned dozens of follow-up volumes, though Video Team's Afro-Centric label was not specifically focused on girl/girl action. Problem with this first entry is its weak content.
Dominique Simone, a big star at the time (her current equiv lent would probably be Diamond Jackson) is cast as the titular leader of a quintet of dancers, who she takes on a retreat away from men. Video gets off to a rocky start with a cheap, under-dressed set representing their apartment, and no actual transition trip to the retreat - visually it seems as if they just went out the door, down the hallway to the next room to emerge in an even cheaper set.
Lesbian content is lame, especially in view of recent sophisticated and more natural videos in the genre from mini-empires like Girlfriends Films and Sweetheart Video. Both those popular labels provide only occasional work to women of color.
Simone masturbates with dildos and vibrators but it is not as arousing as her many hit boy/girl scenes and movies of the period. The other 4 girls are thrown together in mix and match couplings leading to an anti-climactic orgy when Dominique brings her bag of toys out for the group to try. Opportunities for conflict or anything of interest to happen are scrupulously avoided, giving the show a time capsule feel, rather than an engrossing artifact like story-line shows from decades back.
