The Simpsons voice actor Hank Azaria is voicing his concerns over potentially being replaced by artificial intelligence.
Azaria, who has voiced dozens of characters over his 40-year film and TV career, including bartender Moe, Chief Wiggum and Comic Book Guy on the long-running animated comedy, wrote about his fears in a recent op-ed for The New York Times.
“I imagine that soon enough, artificial intelligence will be able to recreate the sounds of the more than 100 voices I created for characters on The Simpsons over almost four decades,” he wrote. “It makes me sad to think about it. Not to mention, it seems just plain wrong to steal my likeness or sound — or anyone else’s.”
The Brockmire actor continued, “In my case, AI could have access to 36 years of Moe, the permanently disgruntled bartender. He’s appeared in just about every episode of The Simpsons. He’s been terrified,...

There are few details about the proposed reboot yet, but it appears Joss Whedon isn’t in the picture.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is frequently found on lists of the best TV shows of the 1990s, and with good reason. The series was a model for other shows of the period, with its season-long story arcs and its strong female lead. Now, a new report from Variety indicates that the show could be nearing a return, with a reboot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Key Details: Gellar would reprise her role as a recurring character rather than the show’s lead. Original “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon is not expected to have a role in the show’s creative team. A pilot order doesn’t mean the show will get a full season, but it’s an important step in that process. 30-Day Free Trial $9.99+ / month hulu.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.
But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Sequel Series With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning Nears Hulu Pilot Order

In every generation, there is a chosen one — again.
Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.
Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

Over its nine-season run, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David enjoyed corralling celebrities to play themselves on the groundbreaking NBC sitcom "Seinfeld." Who can forget New York Mets great Keith Hernandez getting accused of spitting on Kramer and Newman while also finding the time to romance Elaine ("I'm Keith Hernandez")? Or the time George asked Marisa Tomei out on a date before his deceased fiancée Susan had even been buried? And then there's Jon Voight, who once took a bite out of Kramer's arm in a taxi.
"Seinfeld" was delightfully random in its choice of celebrity cameos, but every single one felt like they belonged in the show's off-kilter universe. Raquel Welch, Mel Tormé, and Bryant Gumbel were, for whatever reason, destined to find their way onto the show about nothing. Some cameos were certainly more obvious than others. Considering how...

You’re looking at a series that’s strange and satirical. It’s a show inside a show inside another millennium. Wipe your mind on the welcome mat, you’re about to enter… The Scary Door.
On the road to creating the greatest science-fiction parody series in the history of television, Matt Groening set loose the single most scientifically literate writers’ room possible on all the tropes and clichés of the genre back when he premiered Futurama on Fox in 1999. Originally conceived as a part-pastiche-part-mockery of all science-fiction media, Futurama covers classic and contemporary visions of the future by viewing them through a simultaneously insightful and stupid lens that lets us laugh at every doomsday prediction ever made with the accompaniment of a foreboding brass section on broadcast television.

Everyone knows about "Pokémon" and Ash Ketchum's 25-year journey to becoming a true Pokémon Master. But just two short years after "Pokémon" began airing and sparked a global cultural phenomenon known as Pokémania, along came another anime about kids befriending small pocked-sized monsters that could evolve and fight other monsters. That anime is "Digimon," and for many '90s kids, it was the far superior show.
The reason is simple: when it comes to anime shows for kids, few seemed as profound or had a story as relatable and meaningful as that of "Digimon Adventure." Released in 1999, at a time when the computer era was reaching new heights and internet use was becoming increasingly common, "Digimon" taught kids important life lessons. It treated them as being mature enough to handle complex and dark subjects, like saying goodbye to friends and childhood itself, as well as many a traumatic character death scene.

"The Simpsons" is arguably the greatest animated series in history. Similarly, "Cheers" is almost certainly one of the greatest live-action sitcoms of all time. But what would happen if these two worlds met? That question was answered briefly (and hilariously) once in 1994 when Homer Simpsons stumbled into the most famous bar in TV history. Yet, during his trek there, a certain voice was notably absent from the proceedings -- namely, that of Kelsey Grammer, who has played Sideshow Bob since the earliest days of "The Simpsons."
Grammer, of course, also played Frasier Crane on "Cheers" before eventually headlining the very successful spin-off "Frasier." Nevertheless, he didn't lend his voice to the crossover in question. It happened during the episode "Fear of Flying," which aired as part of "The Simpsons" season 6. The main plot of the episodes involves Homer being awarded...

Bluey was at the forefront of pop culture discourse for several weeks in the spring, as plenty of adult critics discussed how much the animated show meant to them. Its target audience probably didn’t read much of that discourse — kids under 10 aren’t big consumers of that sort of thing — but they (and their parents) kept watching week after week.
The series never fell off Nielsen’s top 10 streaming charts in 2024 — it’s been a fixture dating back to fall 2022, in fact — and ends the year as, by far, the most streamed show in the United States in terms of total viewing time. In the "The Simpsons" episode "Alone Again, Natura-Diddly", the Simpsons discover a new outdoor auto racing track inside their favorite nature preserve and decide to stay and watch a race or two. Indeed, many recognizable characters are there, including Ned Flanders (Harry Shearer) and his wife Maude (Marcia Mitzman Gaven), who sit in the back row. In between races, cheerleaders take to the track and use a t-shirt cannon to fire free clothing into the stands. Tragically, one of the errant t-shirts strikes Maude in the chest, throwing her over the back railing of the stadium. She plunges to her death, landing in the parking lot below.
The rest of the episode follows Ned's grieving process as he mourns the loss of his wife. Ned, perhaps shockingly, even finds his faith in God shaken over the tragedy; ordinarily, Ned is ultra-Christian.

Jennifer Tilly, like many professionals, began acting in high school, having been bitten by the theater bug as a teen. Her mother, a former stage actress herself, helped Jennifer (as well as her younger sister Meg) pursue walk-on roles and supporting parts in various Hollywood TV shows, and Tilly made her TV debut on an episode of the sitcom "Oh Madeline" in 1983. In 1984, she secured a regular role on the obscure comedy series "Shaping Up," which starred Leslie Nielsen as a grumpy health club owner. Tilly appeared in all five episodes. Her real big break came that same year, as she secured a recurring role on the hit cop show "Hill Street Blues," appearing in six episodes.
Tilly would spend the next few years acting in guest spots on hit shows like "Moonlighting," "Cheers," and "Remington Steel." She would also make a move into cinemas, appearing in multiple studio comedies and thrillers.

What do Mickey Mouse, Homer Simpson, and SpongeBob SquarePants have in common? Not much, apart from the fact that they're all beloved, easily recognizable cartoon characters. But they also share one design aspect: All of these characters sport four fingers instead of five. Once you notice, you'll never be able to un-see it. This four-fingered cartoon design isn't solely limited to the aforementioned examples, as you'll notice this quirk on most of your favorite animated characters, from everyone in "Dexter's Laboratory" to all humans in "Futurama." In most cases, fewer fingers are generally attributed to anthropomorphic creatures or those who are considered alien to a fictional story's setting.
Why has this design choice become a semi-standard animation practice? Is it simply a by-product of the whimsy that these cartoons embrace, where everything is exaggerated to suit its limitless essence? Let's look at Mickey Mouse as an example, who sports a round,...

Please try to enjoy the following spoilers equally. This article discusses "Severance" season 2, episode 2.
Every episode of "Severance" brings more and more mysteries into the mix, but is it possible that viewers have been asking the wrong questions all along? Our most pressing concerns to this point have to do with what Lumon Industries is really doing with Ms. Casey/Gemma (Dichen Lachman), what Adam Scott's Mark S. and his fellow innies are actually accomplishing at their computers all day, and why the heck new Deputy Manager Ms. Huang (Sarah Bock) is a child. But maybe we should've been wondering where the idea of this mind-bending Apple TV+ show came from in the first place.
In episode 2 of the new season, titled "Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig," director Sam Donovan and credited writer/executive producer Mohamad el Masri made sure to include one unassuming scene that actually contains a major Easter egg.

Cartoon Network is responsible for some of the best 1990s cartoons period, but the network's reign of dominance didn't end with the turn of a new millennium. The channel had plenty of holdovers from the previous decade, but more excitingly, it introduced plenty of other great animated series for kids of all ages to enjoy.
There were absolutely cartoons that dabbled in standalone episodes where you could tune in any week and know what's going on. Courage had new monsters to face while Johnny Bravo was getting himself into all sorts of ridiculous mishaps. However, Cartoon Network also began dabbling with more long-form storytelling. Kids could also watch "Justice League" and partake in a more serious superhero story about governmental overreach. There was something for every palate whether you wanted silly jokes or more high-octane action.
Anyone who says animation peaked in the '90s needs a reality check. Here...

Hulu has a ton of great content to watch. The streamer comes with originals of its own, alongside a huge library of licensed titles, including next-day streams of primetime shows from ABC and Fox, titles from the FX cable network, and a lot more.
Unfortunately, Hulu also has the reputation of having one of the worst advertising experiences of any streaming service. I took a deep dive into the streamer to see what watching ads on Hulu is really like. You can read my thoughts below to see if ad-supported Hulu is the right choice for you.

One of the remarkable things about "The Simpsons" was how quickly the show built enough cultural cache to attract big-name guest stars. As early as its first season, Albert Brooks was playing French bowling instructor Jacques in "Life on the Fast Lane." Since then, celebrities have continued to flock to the series, to the extent that the best guest stars on "The Simpsons" include some of the most well-known and influential cultural figures of the last three decades.
From A-list actors such as Michelle Pfeiffer and Dustin Hoffman to musical legends such as Johnny Cash, the show has drawn talent from across the cultural sphere — though Bruce Springsteen still refuses to cameo in "The Simpsons." But even Bruce Springsteen isn't as tough to get as two of producer Al Jean's dream cameos. These two figures are just as prestigious as anyone else who's appeared on "The Simpsons," but there...

Futurama's robotic version of Santa Claus is one of the show's most dangerous (and ridiculous) powerhouses. Within the world of Futurama, things have changed drastically by the time of the 31st century. That inherent culture shock for the displaced 20th century slacker Phillip J. Fry serves as a lot of the comedy baked into Futurama, especially as it compares and contrasts that bizarre future with the standard tropes of the present-day.
One of the most surprising of these turns was introduced in season 2 with the introduction of Robot Santa. Instead of being a jovial figure like most portrayals of the character across fiction, this version of Santa is a ruthless murderer who has transformed the Xmas holiday into a time of fear for Futurama's citizens. The powers behind Robot Santa make him surprisingly dangerous, even compared to the other threats of the 31st century. Notably, Futurama has revealed more...

Quick Links Futurama Season 13 Latest News Futurama Season 13 Is Confirmed Futurama Season 13 Cast Futurama Season 13 Story Details
Matt Groening's beloved animated sci-fi comedy Futurama returned to great fanfare in 2023, and it has already scored a renewal for season 13. Set in the distant future on Earth, the show centers on an average Joe, Philip J. Fry (Billy West), who was accidentally frozen in the year 2000. Fry is a fish-out-of-water in the year 3000 and takes a job working at an interplanetary mail delivery service. Running from 1999 to 2003, Futurama was canceled by Fox before being revived by Comedy Central in 2008.
The first revival was canned again in 2013, and it stayed off the air for 10 years before being resurrected by Hulu in 2023. Though there are a few differences between the original Futurama and the Hulu reboot, the tone and humor have remained consistent no matter who hosts the series. Even if the show's...

Rick and Morty has become a cultural touchstone. Since the show premiered in 2013, it has been a huge part of the animation space and a ratings juggernaut for Adult Swim. Rick and Morty follows a teenager named Morty and an elderly mad scientist named Rick in a series of science fiction adventures. Drawing heavily from Back to the Future, Futurama, and The Simpsons, it's no wonder Rick and Morty has been a smash hit and continues to garner new fans, even despite controversy regarding its creator.
With hit shows, especially hit animated shows, comes merchandising. Rick and Morty have been the stars of ad campaigns for Wendy’s in the past and the show has even featured some questionable product placements. Their most interesting collaboration is likely the unexpected one with Adidas involving a shoe, leading to something unique for the franchise.

A common misconception among more casual "Family Guy" fans is that creator Seth MacFarlane is personally responsible for every single creative decision. Although he voices many of the characters, his presence in the writers' room is a lot lighter than one would think. He's mentioned in interviews that he hasn't written for "Family Guy" since around 2009, and even before that, he only officially wrote the scripts for three episodes. That's right: only three episodes in the show's entire 400+ episode run were penned by MacFarlane.
Of course, as any writer for a long-running sitcom will tell you, the writing for these shows is very collaborative. There'll often be one writer who receives credit for the episode, but the script will typically go through multiple revisions from the rest of the staff. I know from interviews with staff writers from "Rick and Morty" and "Futurama" that it's often hard for the staff...

"NCIS" is without question one of the most successful shows on TV today, if not ever. The CBS police procedural has run for an astounding 22 seasons and counting, with nearly 500 episodes to its name. That's even more than "Criminal Minds." One of the show's key characters is Jimmy Palmer. Played by actor Brian Dietzen, Jimmy has been there from the beginning, first appearing towards the end of season 1. Since then, he's been a staple of the series. Unfortunately, Mrs. Palmer didn't get so lucky.
Breena Palmer, played by Michelle Pierce, didn't appear in nearly as many episodes of the show. That said, she's no less important. She also made a huge impact, particularly due to the way she exited "NCIS." For fans of the show, Breena Palmer's death was a huge blow and is still discussed today. With that in mind,...

Futurama's Bender and Adventure Time's Jake are mashed together in a new piece of John Dimaggio character crossover art. Futurama precedes Adventure Time by about 11 years, premiering in 1999 and following pizza delivery driver Philip J. Fry (Billy West), with Dimaggio's Bender, a foul-mouthed robot, playing an important role in just about every episode. Adventure Time, on the other hand, didn't premiere until 2010, with that animated sitcom following a 12-year-old boy as he goes on various adventures with his wise dog, Jake.
@bornreadydesigns on Instagram now combines Bender from Futurama and Jake from Adventure Time into one character. The art features key aspects of Bender, including the metallic coating and limb design, with Jake's dog-like face. The caption for the image jokes that this new hybrid character could be called either "Bender the dog" or "Jake the robot." Check out the art below:

For 12 seasons and the same number of years, Jim Parsons played the stubborn, brilliant scientist Sheldon Cooper on "The Big Bang Theory" — and according to an oral history of the series, Parsons had a really unique process when it came to learning Sheldon's long, super-specific monologues and diatribes.
In Jessica Radloff's 2022 book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," showrunner and creator Chuck Lorre told the author that Parsons always came to set completely ready to perform. "Jim's process was to be wildly prepared," Lorre recalled. "He made all his decisions the night before the table read as to how he was going to read his script."
Parsons confirmed that he did prepare quite a lot while playing Sheldon. "I really did love putting in the time, staying home on the weekends and repeating these words," Parsons said. He continued:

The final episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" aired on Paramount+ on December 19, 2024, bringing the show's five-season run to a graceful close. "Lower Decks" was merely the latest "Star Trek" show to be chopped from the schedule in a grand contraction phase for the franchise. In 2017, Paramount began putting all its eggs into one "Star Trek"-emblazoned basket, and Trekkies were treated to six Trek shows running simultaneously. In the last few years, though, five of those six shows have been canceled, and one of them ("Star Trek: Prodigy") was removed from Paramount+ altogether. It seems that the head honchos at Paramount didn't want to spend the money required to keep all those "Star Trek" shows afloat.

Even before "South Park" debuted, it was controversial. In the mid-1990s, Matt Stone and Trey Parker put together a pair of Christmas-themed animated shorts full of violence and foul language. The second short, 1995's "The Spirit of Christmas," featured Jesus Christ and Santa Claus savagely beating each other up. Several kids were killed in the melee. That short was distributed on bootleg VHS cassettes by multiple Hollywood celebrities, most notably George Clooney, and Parker and Stone suddenly had the ear of producers and muckety-mucks.
"South Park" debuted in 1997, and it retained all the potty jokes and shock humor as the holiday special. It was an instant smash, gaining attention for its daring attitude and edgy comedy. Many liked the pairing of shock humor with crude animation, lending "South Park" an anarchic, punk rock feeling. For its first few seasons, "South Park" was beloved by edgelords and intellects alike.

Star Trek: Lower Decks officially came to an end on December 19th, but no one is closing the door on these characters. According to series star Tawny Newsome, in an interview she gave Variety, she said series creator "could do 10 more seasons." On top of that, the cast is all aboard for whatever McMahan has in mind.
Newsome herself would love to do a movie, and perhaps that's something Paramount+ will consider after we see how well Section 31 does when it premieres next month. One thing is for certain, no one is finished with these Lower Decks characters and not just in animation. Newsome said, "I’d love a live-action movie, because we need to see Noël and Jerry and Eugene in human form — human-ish form."
That would be a different way for the series to go and would be an even bigger wrap-up if that's the last time we hear [or see] these characters.

A new fan video shows alternate versions of the characters from Futurama in a redneck music video parody. Futurama follows characters who live in New New York in the 31st century, including Fry, Leela, and Bender, who all work for the delivery service Planet Express. The series premiered on Fox in 1999, where it aired until 2003. After a revival on Comedy Central, the show was brought back once again on Hulu in 2023, with Futurama season 13 already confirmed to be on the way.
The YouTube video from demonflyingfox adapts the Futurama characters in a live-action style. Just like in the animated series, the parody shows Fry waking up in the future. The Planet Express ship has also been changed, and looks like an old van. However, it is still green and able to travel in space. Leela is also still the captain of the ship. All of the characters are now sporting redneck outfits,...

When The Jetsons premiered in 1962, it wasn’t just a TV show; it was a vision of tomorrow.
As the first animated series broadcast in color during prime time, it dazzled audiences with its kaleidoscope of futuristic dreams — flying cars, robot maids, and video calls that felt light-years ahead of their time.
Against the backdrop of the space race and post-war optimism, The Jetsons reflected a cultural moment bursting with hope for a better, tech-driven tomorrow.
(ABC/Screenshot)
Unlike other sitcoms of the era, The Jetsons wasn’t just about gadgets — it was about humanity.
By blending science fiction with the everyday quirks of family life, the show made the future feel both aspirational and relatable.
George Jetson was a harried husband juggling a demanding boss and a family; Jane Jetson managed a household with technological flair; and their kids, Judy and Elroy, had all the typical adolescent drama –just with jetpacks.

These days, it’s extremely easy to access information about your favorite movies and TV shows thanks to the wonders/horrors of the internet. But back in the dark ages of the 1990s, when dial-up modems, fax machines and slap bracelets were considered cutting edge, pop-culture info was a lot harder to come by.
This meant that fans of The Simpsons who grew up in the ‘90s mostly learned about The Simpsons by watching the show. After all, it’s not like many kids at the time were loyal CBS News NightWatch viewers.

One charming aspect of early "The Simpsons" seasons is how janky the animation looks. Season one of the show was a marked improvement over the animated shorts that buttressed "The Tracey Ullman Show" commercial breaks back in the '80s, but it still looked pretty funky compared to the series that airs today. Back when "Futurama" premiered almost 25 years ago, however, the show actually looked pretty good. Matt Groening's second major TV project debuted with a relatively clean animation style that took advantage of 3D rendering to deliver a hybrid 2D/3D style that set the aesthetics of "Futurama" apart from "The Simpsons."
Of course, as with any TV series, initial designs weren't quite the same as what we eventually saw on-screen. For example, an early design for Bender gave him three antennas, gloves, and Bart Simpson's clothes.

Back in 1990, when "The Simpsons" was only in its second season, show creator Matt Groening had already begun floating ideas for a sci-fi/comedy companion series. He even went on record with the corollary that his new show would be to "The Simpsons" what "The Jetsons" was to "The Flintstones." Groening spent several years turning the idea over in his head before finally approaching "Simpsons" writer David X. Cohen about the possibility of co-creating something together. The two slowly developed many ideas and invented a cast of new characters to live in the futuristic, robot-and-alien-crowded world of A.D. 3000. Some of the original titles for the series included "Aloha, Mars!" and "Doomsville." The show was also initially conceived to be bleaker and more dystopian than it ended up being; every corner was outfitted with a coin-operated suicide booth.

Back in 1990, when "The Simpsons" was only in its second season, show creator Matt Groening had already begun floating ideas for a sci-fi/comedy companion series. Futurama season 12 codified the multiverse for the animated series, seemingly confirming that dozens of timelines introduced in the show previously exist in a shared multiverse. The season 12 finale "Otherwise" introduced the Graveyard of Ships to Futurama's cosmology, a rift in space-time where people could move between realities. While setting up Futurama's potential future status quo, the series quietly confirmed that many of the bizarre alternate dimensions and timelines introduced in previous seasons seem to co-exist in this multiverse.
Some alternate worlds, like Leela's Wizard of Oz-inspired dream from season 4's "Anthology of Interest II" are in-universe parodies that could be later revealed to be their own separate timelines. It's also possible that Futurama's new multiverse rules mean doomed endings like the one featured in season 12's "Attack of the Clothes" are actually entirely separate timelines. The Futurama multiverse could easily continue to expand, but here are all...

Philip J. Fry (Billy West) is the hero of "Futurama," but his robot buddy Bender (John Dimaggio) is the show's star. A crass alcoholic "lovable scamp" (read: sociopath), Bender is to "Futurama" what Homer is on "The Simpsons."
"Futurama" takes place in the 31st century, and this future is filled with plenty more charming robots than only Bender. From acting unit Calculon (Maurice Lamarche) to the Robot Devil, some of the funniest characters in "Futurama" have silicon souls.
No one can accuse "Futurama" of being written by Isaac Asimov, but many episodes of the show explore Bender's existence as a robot too. In "Fear Of A Bot Planet," the characters visit a planet that is Bender's paradise (a planet of robots who want to kill all humans). "Obsoluely Fabulous" sees Bender befriend several outmoded robots while he himself deals with fears of obsolescence.

Few animated shows have stood the test of time in the way that "Futurama" has. Not only does the show have another new season currently airing, after first premiering nearly 25 years ago in 1999, but it has been canceled four different times, only to come back to life once again. Like any great show, much of the appreciation stems from the love viewers have for the characters. Bender, in particular, is a fan-favorite. A vulgar, alcoholic, selfish robot with lots of human tendencies, Bender is a brilliant creation. He also nearly looked a whole lot different than he does now.
A new book detailing the history of the show recently hit shelves titled "The Art of Futurama: A Visual History of Matt Groening's Cult Classic Animated Series," which is available now on Amazon. In it, art director Bill Morrison explains...

Disney+ added 4.4 million subscribers this summer, bringing its total to 122.7 million subs. Adding in Disney+ Hotstar, which is basically the inexpensive Disney+ in India, the truly global Disney+ number grows to 158.6 million subs.
It’s marked growth from the prior quarter, when Disney+ added just 700,000 subs. At the time, the company said it expected Disney+ subs to grow “modestly” this summer. It certainly achieved at least that. Disney now says it expects a “modest decline” in October-to-December Disney+ core (not Hotstar) subs vs. the summer haul.
Hulu now has 52 million subscribers after adding 900,000 subs over the three-month period. ESPN+ now has 25.6 million subscribers, with growth of 700,000 subs since the end of June. Next quarter we’ll see what having an NFL game exclusively on ESPN+ does for the streamer’s subscribers.
Last quarter (April-June), Disney finally turned a profit at its overall direct-to-consumer (streaming) business — one quarter ahead of schedule.

Matt Groening’s second most beloved animated comedy was nearly a lookalike of the Og — and he had the nerve to call Seth MacFarlane a plagiarist.
Ever since Groening emerged as the greatest animation mogul of his generation, audiences have always been able to tell just by looking at any animated comedy whether or not he was the show’s creator. From The Simpsons to Futurama to Disenchantment, Groening has always had a hard-on for drawing characters with underdeveloped chins, bulging, overlapping eyes and, if they’re a slightly lazy leading man, a perfectly round paunch of a belly. Like most great artists, Groening has a distinct style, but also like other legends, he needs to be very careful that he doesn’t repeat himself, lest some Simpsons fan should suddenly think that one of Homer’s various long-lost relatives is now a 31st century delivery boy while flipping through the channels.

"Futurama" is filled with loathsome but hilarious characters. Bender the robot (John Dimaggio) wants to kill all humans, but his felonious antics are always a highlight of the show. Professor Farnsworth (Billy West) is a mad scientist who dreams of doomsday devices and atomic monsters, but his mad genius makes him almost as funny as Bender.
Then there's starship captain Zapp Brannigan (also Billy West), a wannabe lech who lacks the charm one needs. He's captain of the Nimbus, a ship in the Doop (Democratic Order of Planets), with beleaguered alien second-in-command Kif Kroker (Maurice Lamarche). Kif is Zapp's Spock, but an abused assistant instead of a trusted advisor.
Zapp, Kif, and their crewmen wear red Doop uniforms, with gold stylings and miniskirts. In "Zapp Gets Canceled," Leela, Fry, and Bender take over the Nimbus and start wearing those same uniforms.

Nft jokes aside, Futurama is still very much beloved by its dedicated fans. The show, which simply refuses to stay dead, is returning for at least two more seasons on Hulu, and is now the subject of a fancy new coffee-table book, for those art lovers with disposable incomes who enjoy the antics of Dr. Zoidberg more than the fashions of Tom Ford and/or the gloopy clocks of Salvador Dali.
The Art of Futurama includes early concept art and sketches, as well as interviews with the creatives behind the show. It also boasts an introduction from creator Matt Groening, who revealed that childhood trauma played a role in Futurama’s origin.
No, not the trauma of saying goodbye to your fossilized canine best friend forever.
Groening’s intro begins with a lengthy description of how he was terrified of robots as a child, thanks to movies like The Phantom Creeps,...
