    "How badly prizefighters were (are? ) manipulated by their unfeeling managers!" .It was made in 1948 ,thus before "the harder they fall" (1956)and "the set up"(1949) and can ,from that point of view ,be considered an interesting work. Alexandre Esway's directing is undistinguished though .Yves Montand is rather gauche ,but as the character is too,there is no problem.

    He performs,first a Capella,with his buddies providing backing vocals ,boy scouts song " Ma Prairie " about a cowboy lost in the city,longing for his life in Far West;the song is heard again briefly ,with orchestra ,at the end,to make sure we have understood that our boxer ,a former lumberjack,has found true love and is leaving the filthy world of boxing,after refusing to give up and go crooked .
