  • Aag Aur Shola review :

A Jeetendra home production in which he played a guest role; Aag Aur Shola featured newbie Ashish Chanana and Mandakini as lovers who incur the wrath of villain Shakti Kapoor and he tries to separate them. Jeetu plays a Phantom like character who helps Ashish get Manda.

Sridevi appears as Jeetu's love interest in his backstory and they get to groove together in a song. Thats about it.

The film is memorable for Jeetendra's costume which was originally made for Amitabh Bachchan's Shahenshah (1988). In 1985 when Bachchan fell ill, Shahenshah got delayed for a year and costume designer gave the outfit to Jeetendra for Aag Aur Shola. It was very unprofessional action but nothing could be done. Shahenshah director Tinnu Anand then re-designed the final outfit with the hangman's noose when it was restarted in 1987.

Aag Aur Shola didnt quite work at the box office inspite it being a cheesy remake of a super hit south movie. In one fight scene, you even had Jeetendra and Shakti Kapoor flying in the air like Superman. Manoj Kumar Saahab probably saw this and incorporated it in his trash classic Clerk (1989).

My favourite character in Aag Aur Shola is not Jeetu or Sridevi or the lead pair but the one and only Kader Khan who is a bumbling college professor whom the students love to rag. He is simply outstanding. The films not.
