Fear is a woman's best friend.(or is it?)
Married woman (Morlay) falls for a handsome pianist .As she loves her not-so-handsome hubby (Vanel) and her dear children, she decides to break up.

But the cuckolded husband feels there is something wrong.Being a lawyer ,he 's got a client who killed his wife and her lover in a fit of anger. And when he delivers his vibrant plea, his wife is in the courtroom and she hears everything. She feels guilt. But the straw that breaks the camel's back is a woman (Suzy Prim) the lover has ditched who blackmails the unfaithful wife. Soon she runs out of money and the blackmailer demands her necklace (some kind of equivalent of the "ferrets" in Dumas'"Les Trois Mousquetaires".)Now the poor lady lives in fear ("la Peur").

Tourjansky's film is not mentioned in Jean Tulard's "Dictionniare des Réalisateurs" .It is not mentioned in both Morlay's and Vanel's filmographies either. It was probably recently restored but it's not a major find. The only original thing is the final unexpected twist.
