A Few laughs, But Overall Disappointing
I really wanted to like this looked as if all the makings for an excellent screwball black comedy were in place. The writer/directors (Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski) have done some fine work in the past (they penned the scripts for the true-life dramas "The People Vs. Larry Flynt" and the Andy Kaufman bio "Man On The Moon") but they were also responsible for the truly awful "Problem Child" films; rank this one among ththe latter category. This is their first directorial effort and they show a few inventive touches visually. But despite a convoluted plot and frantic pacing, too many of the jokes just fell flat. There were probably about 6-8 solid laughs during the (seemingly longer) 81 minutes, and those were pretty much due to the mighty efforts of Norm and Dave trying their best to breathe life into some very lame material. When is Norm going to finally get a script worthy of his unique talents?

I guess it shouldn't be any surprise, since Universal let this one sit on the shelf for over a year before finally throwing it out against some of the first bona-fide Summer blockbusters to get clobbered.

Rent "Dirty Work"'s just about as juvenile, but more consistent and funnier than this one.
