Alexandra Hay, Martin Sheen, and Rod McCary filmed a version of this film in 1971 under the title "The Forests Are Nearly All Gone Now." After principal photography was completed, writer/director Clyde Ware shelved the film. In 1988, Ware resurrected the project, hiring new actors and rehiring Rod McCary to film scenes set in 1988, with the footage shot in 1971 utilized as a flashback. This version received a VHS release in 1992 under the title "Another Time, Another Place."
