But mostly dope is what this 12-minute short film by director Faith Akin is about. Akin is one of the most famous German (and Turkish) directors currently out there and this one here is a very early effort from him, one of his first films and he was in his early 20s when he wrote, directed and starred in this one almost 20 years ago. The word "Getürkt" is a German term for "fake" and obviously it's also a play on words with Turkey. The fake thing here is marijuana which is actually just some weed (but not in the marijuana sense) from the character's front garden. If you are familiar with Akin's other works, you will see his usual approach in this film, seemingly dramatic with guns pulled, but it's really just humor. Also in this movie is Akin's brother Cem and Mehmet Kurtulus, with whom Akin made several movies. However, I have to say I did not like this film as much as I hoped I would. Akin's style is visible, but it definitely still needed fine tuning and he got it pretty quickly and turned into the director he is today. As for this one here, not recommended. Possibly Akin's worst effort.
