  • A three-episodes Italian comedy of the 70's. The first, and to me by far much better than the other two, features the duo Renato Pozzetto and Cochi Ponzoni in a series of demential and irresistible gags, such as Renato having his three-wheel transport bike ( "Motocarro Moto Guzzi") sporty tuned , or wanting to get a place in a restaurant named "Trattoria Milan-Inter", while the waiter at the entrance says "it's full", and in fact when the door is opened, the (ancient S.Siro) stadium of Milan can be seen, obviously crowded for a Ac Milan- Fc Inter derby. Also funny when Renato is waken up by a radio , proclaiming the most incredible news, such as " a group of dentist has estimated that the average height of Mount Cervino is 3 meters higher" : "higher than what?" "Than nothing!". Remarkable also the soundtrack by Enzo Jannacci (" E lo sputtanamento"), as well as a cameo by a very young Massimo Boldi and featuring Giorgio Porcaro, speaking the same Way that mate Diego Abatantuono famous ( but they started both in a Jannacci's TV show in 1979 , so POrcaro was first). The 2nd episode shows Paolo Villaggio kidnapped by extraterrestrial, the third one Enrico Montesano as a military officer, invading by mistake Italian Switzerland whilst searching for an open tobacconist with his unit . Both cannot be compared with the first one.

Not one of the funniest Italian comedies. I found it flat and boring. Couldn't even finish it.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A trio of comedic tales that by Italian standards has a surprisingly high absurdity count and ranks low on the scale of sexiness. So, don't expect any nudity this time around, but do be prepared for some uncontrollable belly laughs. The title with the tigers doesn't make any sense, apart from providing a link to the earlier anthology 'Tre Tigri Contro Tre Tigri' from the year before. The would be Pink Panther style opening credits does feature some animated tigers, though they look more like lions with a couple of stripes. Though they certainly give it a try, the animation is weak, the sequence has no original jokes and the music is neither catchy nor memorable. But don't despair, the three stories that follow do make up for this lackluster opening.

Il Primo Episodio, written & directed by master of absurdity Renato Pozzetto starts of with a lame gag involving some policemen, but soon picks up with a hilarious slow motion pratfall by Massimo Boldi as an unfortunate butler. This little accident costs Boldi his job, making way for surreal handyman Elia (Pozzetto) to take his place. Elia ends up sleeping with his new mistress (in every sense) Annalise (Angela Luce) that same night. The next day her husband Caminito (Cochi Ponzoni), who is only in it for her money, recruits Elia in a scheme to get rid of the woman. Many absurd visual gags and silly characters make up this uneven but hilarious part, which takes up the first 43 minutes of the film.

8 out of 10; Boldi's pratfall is worth the admission alone.

Episododio Due is the shortest (25 minutes) and the silliest. It begins very promising with Nadia Cassini playing the Queen of the Cosmos in an outfit that's even sexier than her attire in 'Starcrash' (also released in 1978). Unfortunately she exits after a mere three minutes, when it turns out she was only play acting with Della Spigola, a journalist who is obsessed with aliens and played by Paolo Villaggio. Spigola nurtures a theory that being from outer space are about to visit the earth in order to eat it, and begins to see extra terrestrials at the office. Before long he gets beamed up from his car and subjected to a series of demeaning tests. Most of these are pretty hilarious, not least because of the suitable poor special effects.

9 out of 10; even with just two minutes of Nadia

Il Tre and final installment, which like the previous is directed by Giorgio Capitani, is about 40 minutes and stars Enrico Montesano as Roberto Micozzi who decides to join the Bersaglieri's (sharpshooters) in a last ditch effort to make something off himself. His slacker friends all join up as well and during maneuvers they manage to misplace their commanding officer. When they decide to cross over the Swiss border in search of some cigarettes, they are promptly mistaken for a grand army of 300.000 invading Italians. As suits a grand finale, this part has the most action and fireworks incorporated into some fine comedic set pieces.

7 out of 10; an explosive ending but less laughter than the previous two parts.

All in all a very enjoyable hour and 45 minutes for fans who are in the mood for some Italian comedy. It provides some bigger laughs than usual and better executed absurdity and slapstick as well. And with a lot less emphasis on the female form, it's fun for the entire family.

    Average: 8 out of 10
