Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.
The last scene shot during principal photography, was a scene where Aragorn was dressed by Gondorian Soldiers in his armor before his coronation. The soldiers were played by people from the Wardrobe Department, but the scene was eventually cut. Some behind-the-scenes footage of its filming can be seen in the Extended Edition DVD extras.
Smeagol, I've got one! I've got a fish, Smeag. Smeagol!
Smeagol: Pull it in. Go on. Go on. Go on. Pull it in.
After the battle at Minas Tirith the clasp holding Pippin's cape together changes direction between shots.
Peter Jackson's and Fran Walsh's children are listed in the credits as 'Cute Gondor children'. In the Fellowship of the Ring, they were 'Cute Hobbit children' and in The Two Towers, they were 'Cute Rohan children'.
In the theatrical version, there was a lengthy delay between when Frodo is with the eagles after being picked up, and when he's in bed, when there's nothing but darkness. A large number of people in the theaters thought that was the end of the movie, and some started to get up. This has been removed in the original DVD.
