  • Reasonably entertaining tale about "Vicki" (Karen Corrado) who catches her football captain boyfriend cheating. To prove a point she decides to go out for the football team herself, much to the chagrin of the boys and their grumpy coach. Otherwise it's more or less an after-school special of car chases, parties, fights, and sexual innuendo/politics. Some of the scenes are a little confusing. Why, for example, is there a "football class" for girls when no one wants the girls to play? This may be the only screwball teen comedy ever produced by Independent-International--or at least one of very few. The company was more known for violent, low-budget action pics helmed by the late cult director Al Adamson. A more convincing food fight and a little more nudity wouldn't have hurt, but I like the film OK for what it is. James Spader's cameo is great. I was also impressed with Corrado's performance and believe she showed potential to be a very good actress. A rather ominous sounding review at amazon hints that her real life maybe didn't turn out too well which, if true, is unfortunate. It doesn't appear she ever acted in any other film.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A friend of mine read in a book that this was a 1970s soft porn film, and that made me laugh. Although the cover refers to nudity, I watched it with a friend and neither of us actually spotted any! This story is very disjointed. It is very uneven in tone.

On the plus side, the heroine wants to play on the boys' football team. On the negative side, she is a bit of a wimp and easily gives up her dream on condition that they let her play in one game that doesn't even count.

The tale of how she gets to that match is supposed to be hilarious, but it's very broad comedy. Much of the rest of the film is not presented as a comedy. I don't know what it thinks it is.

Like most people (judging by how this is billed on ebay), I bought this because it is James Spader's film debut. He plays a bright, good-looking teenager called Jimmy who (like most teenagers) gets drunk at parties. It probably was not the most demanding role of his life. Plus, he is only in about 3 scenes.

I just wanted to set the record straight and say that he didn't make his film debut in soft porn.

    Whoa!
I must admit, before seeing this flick, I had never seen a movie where the producers left in multiple messed-up lines! Yes, it's true...it happens at least four times in this here movie! Dialogue where the actors very clearly mess up, and then correct, their lines. I guess they were really pressed for a deadline?

I found this movie recently on VHS. I purchased it mainly because of the fact that Estelle Getty is in it. While it was neat to see her in something from this time period, the small role that she had as a teacher was not very well written and didn't provide her with much room to showcase her talent.

The premise of the story is a good one, but the way the plot unfolds is inconsistent and unconvincing. And a lot of the acting is very weak. Thus, I would ONLY recommend this if you have a penchant for bad movies and getting a laugh out of how bad they are (I do, and that's part of why I give this movie even three stars -- in addition to the fact that Estelle Getty is in it!).
