During the early 2000s, Cartoon Network boasted an embarrassment of riches in terms of the volume of high-quality shows on its platform. Cult classic series like Teen Titans, The Powerpuff Girls, Codename: Kids Next Door, Samurai Jack, and Ed, Edd, n Eddy were daily fixtures on the network, delivering round-the-clock entertainment to its largely Gen Z audience. Beloved series such as Johnny Test, Total Drama Island, Totally Spies, Chowder and Ben 10 also helped establish Cartoon Network's golden age. While most Cartoon Network series carry a lighthearted, playful tone, there is one series with a hilariously dark origin story that surprisingly became a network favorite — The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy is an animated television series created by Maxwell Atoms for Cartoon Network. The series is centered around the exploits of Billy (Richard Steven Horvitz), an idiotic and happy-go-lucky boy; Mandy (Grey DeLisle), a deadpan,...

So, the Powerpuff trailer was leaked. While the footage was taken down faster than the Mayor of Townsville calling the girls, we were able to witness what could have been thanks to it going viral. The live-action reimagining of Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls would’ve starred genre legends Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and singer Yana Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively, in their adult years. Backlash was always inevitable with this project. The central appeal of The Powerpuff Girls was the girls’ cheerful view of a still dangerous world. So, there was a central question to be answered – what are The Powerpuff Girls when they're not girls anymore? In three-plus minutes, the trailer provided some clarification on this, and I can surely say, I would’ve watched the shit out of this show.

It is highly likely that the trailer for the scrapped live-action adaptation ofPowerpuff Girls, called Powerpuff, has reached your desk. While technically not an official trailer ever intended to be released to the public, the existing footage from the planned series was stitched together into a trailer that showcased what might have been...and it was something. The idea of a live-action Powerpuff Girls series following the trio as they've grown up and reunited in their early 30s sounds like a joke premise, and the footage shown off features green screen compositing that looks straight out of a Funny or Die sketch.
Initially announced in 2020, Powerpuff's strange premise and the news that Academy Award winner Diablo Cody would write it certainly raised a few eyebrows but led to some curiosity about what might have been the most high-profile pilot that season. Despite an impressive cast that included Chloe Bennett (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Blossom,...

It is not often that a leaked trailer for a canceled project is met with whoops of joy, but that is exactly the reaction that the reveal of The CW’s Powerpuff Girls series has received. It is now almost two years since the plug was pulled on the live-action iteration of the iconic animated series, and while there was outcry from Powerpuff Girls fans everywhere at the time, the only crying going on now is tears of joy that the “god-awful” series never saw the light of day.
Take a trip back to 2020, when the first word of a live-action Powerpuff Girls series was revealed to a reasonable level of excitement. The following year, the lead trio of Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault were cast as older versions of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively, and a script by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier was in place for the pilot episode.

Millennials around the world must remember how awesome Powerpuff Girls was. The animated show used to rule kids’ hearts for a healthy part of the early 2000s. While that generation has all grown up, it wouldn’t have come as a shock that the show would have many takers.
After all, the only thing that sells as much as an original childhood movie or series is the project made with the intention of milking the fanbase. Sadly, sometimes things can go awfully wrong. Chloe Bennett & Co. found that out the hard way.

A so-called trailer for The CW’s canceled “Powerpuff Girls” live-action show is circulating online — and let’s just say it’s easy to see why this one didn’t make it to air.
Sources from The CW confirmed to Variety that the video does indeed feature footage from the scrapped series. However, an official trailer for the pilot was never actually made. Instead, the video that’s circulating online as its “trailer” appears to be a fan-made collection of several scenes from the project put together, including an alcoholic Bubbles drunkenly burping and Buttercup refusing to wear her green dress because it’s “normative and ass-ugly.”
This too-real show was ordered in 2020. In the live-action series, the citizens of Townsville turn against the crime-fighting trio, causing them to break up. But when darkness returns to their home, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup reunite. The series was written by Heather Regnier...

Once upon a time, The CW was a network that made original programming. It was divisive programming; a lot of people slammed CW shows as treacly, cheap-looking, superficial teenaged nonsense, but hey, teenagers deserve their trash, too.
That ended when The CW was acquired by Nexstar. The great majority of the network's programming was canceled. That included a live-action sequel to The Powerpuff Girls, the beloved Cartoon Network show about three pint-sized superhero sisters who defended Townsville from all manner of evil. The live-action show would pick with the girls years after they'd split apart and grown up to be maladjusted young adults. It was going to star Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, Yana Perrault as Buttercup and Scrubs alum Donald Faison as Professor Utonium, the girls' father/creator.
Now, unexpectedly, the trailer for the show that never was has popped up online. You can watch it above!

In 2021, The CW ordered and shot a live-action “Powerpuff Girls” pilot starring Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault and Donald Faison, only for the series to be canceled and never see the light of day — until now.
Footage from the canceled series has been leaked onto YouTube and made into a trailer. Sources at CW confirmed to Variety that the footage is real, but a final trailer was never assembled before “Powerpuff Girls” was axed. At the time of the cancellation, CW may have been putting together a trailer for upfronts, but sources say the leaked footage would not have passed CW standards. The network sometimes used outside vendors to assemble trailers, so the leak could have been a rejected trailer from a third party. It may also have been a Warner Bros. TV trailer created for L.A. screenings or San Diego Comic Con.
Nevertheless, the leaked footage spread on social media Thursday.

For better or for worse, The CW's live-action Powerpuff Girls was put out to pasture before the show ever made it to the air. It came pretty close, however, to the point where a trailer was made for the ill-fated series.
On Reddit, the newly-revealed trailer was shared, revealing over three and a half minutes of footage from the Powerpuff Girls reboot. The trailer showcases how the live-action adaptation would have adapted some of the whimsical elements of the cartoon series, reimagining the group as they would appear as young adults in the real world. It's a zany concept, which might have been the idea, though it could be even more insane than some fans would expect. The trailer can be watched below.

Live-action adaptations of beloved animated shows are becoming another hot commodity, following the success of shows like Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender and Cowboy Bebop. The CW was also looking to capitalize on that popularity with a live-action adaptation of Cartoon Network's beloved The Powerpuff Girls. However, any attempts at transforming sugar, spice, and everything nice into live-action were halted in 2023 when the show was officially canceled. Two years later, a trailer for the CW's canceled Powerpuff Girls show has leaked online...and it's probably a good thing it was axed.
The new trailer, which comes to us via a post on Reddit, reveals the drastic changes made to the original show in the CW's version. The new series planned to age-up Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles into young adults who quit being superheroes after accidentally killing Mojo. The CW announced plans for Powerpuff in 2020. Understandably, fans of Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls were in equal parts excited and filled with trepidation about a live-action sequel.
The network's approach to the material raised eyebrows from the start, largely because each member of the iconic trio was set to be portrayed by, and as, adults. Still, Diablo Cody and Heather Regnie's role in developing the project felt like a step in the right direction, as did the fact Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Chloe Bennet was tapped to play Blossom.
Dove Cameron was chosen as Bubbles, with Yana Perrault picked to bring Buttercup to life on screen. Scrubs alum Donald Faison, meanwhile, was cast as Professor Utonium.
After being shot, the pilot was revealed to have fallen flat, with The CW's former Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz admitting the whole thing was a "miss.

A live-action series based on The Powerpuff Girls was in development at The CW back in 2020. The show was meant to depict Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as “disillusioned twentysomethings,” dealing with the consequences of their childhoods spent fighting crime. The show would have shown the girls reuniting when the world needed them most.
The series was being produced by Warner Bros. Television Studios, with Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody writing the script. The pilot was officially ordered in February 2021, with Maggie Kiley set to direct.
The cast included Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup. Donald Faison was cast as Professor Utonium, and Tom Kenny was returning as the narrator from the original cartoon.

Animation has come a long way since its inception. The meticulous hand-drawn frames of yore have given way to digital techniques, and things like ink and paint have been replaced by Cintiq art tablets. However, one thing has remained the same: every animated work draws inspiration from something else.
Today, there are more remarkable animated shows to see than ever before. Disney and Hanna-Barbera no longer control the narrative. Now, audiences can find something to pique any interest. Shows like Amphibia and The Owl House appeal to the whimsical whims of fantasy fans. Anyone with an itch for something more mysterious can turn to Infinity Train and Gravity Falls. For comedy, Chowder and Regular Show are always available. All these shows seem wildly different, but they’re all connected to the same source. More specifically, their creators were all protégés of Thurop Von Orman and J. G. Quintel’s Cartoon Network show,...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter is the latest (and hopefully the last) Ssu film to bomb at the box office. The superhero genre in general and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe in particular have lost millions of dollars recently. However, fans would be surprised to know that neither Kraven and Madame Web nor The Marvels are among the 10 lowest-grossing films of the 21st century.

Children’s shows usually fall into one of two categories. Some are quickly axed and forgotten. Others, like Cartoon Network’s inimitably strange Ed, Edd, n Eddy, enjoy lengthy runs and animated immortality. More precisely, the show’s ten-year run makes it the fifteenth longest-running animated cartoon in American history.
Of course, being a Cartoon Network show, it trends towards the edgier side of animated content. Detractors often called out the show for its plentiful toilet humor and unique visuals. While the former accusation is true, the latter was and still is a matter of personal taste. For example, Terrence Briggs criticized the show’s artistic style for resembling an “acid trip caricature” in the February 1999 issue of Animation World Magazine. Oddly enough, that animation is one of the show’s many claims to fame. See, Ed, Edd, n Eddy was made at the tail end of classic animation. By the time of its premiere,...

On May 1, 1999, Nickelodeon debuted a new cartoon featuring a bunch of anthropomorphic sea critters called "SpongeBob SquarePants." With bright colors, an amusing protagonist in the form of the titular sponge, and ample absurdist humor, the show became a big hit. Honestly, it's the biggest hit the network has ever seen, still going strong 25 years later with numerous movies and spin-offs under its belt. SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) is known the world over and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
It really deserves to be said how influential and hilarious those early seasons are. Much like "The Simpsons" before it, which had plenty of terrible storylines later on in its run, "SpongeBob SquarePants" may not exist at the creative glory it once retained. But the fact the show's responsible for so many classic jokes that would later turn into memes is something that can never be taken away from it.

The world of animation opens up the minds of younger generations. Television and films like these humorously explore different themes and scenarios. But many times, these stories aren't just for children. Even when cartoons aren't specifically created with adults in mind, such as Adult Swim shows like Rick and Morty, some animated series have creatively created more risqué content.
Cartoon Network has a history of sneaking in suggestive dialogue that would go over any child's head but may delight parents. Series such as The Powerpuff Girls and Adventure Time aren't just for juveniles. Some jokes would be lost on the younger generations.

Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required).” After dismissing the popup, users are redirected to the Cartoon Network page on Max, signaling a clear shift toward making the streamer the primary hub for Cartoon Network programming. The network, known for iconic shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Teen Titans Go!, will remain a cornerstone of children’s programming despite the digital shift.

Cartoon Network has produced some of the most iconic animated series on TV, but there are plenty of shows in the network's catalog that audiences have forgotten existed. Few would doubt the impact Cartoon Network had on entertainment or how innovative the channel was in developing original programming. Yet, whether they aired on Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, DC Nation, or Toonami, countless shows slipped through the cracks but still helped shape the network’s unique identity as a cultural touchstone.
Cartoon Network (also known as Cn) first debuted in 1992, after being founded by Betty Cohen and Ted Turner. Initially focused on animation, the channel showcased both classic and new cartoons, hitting its stride throughout the '90s. Over the years, it produced memorable shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, and Ben 10, cementing its place in pop culture. Now part of Warner Bros. Created by Craig McCracken and released in 1998, The Powerpuff Girls was one of Cartoon Network's original series, also known as a "Cartoon Cartoon". It followed a trio of young girls named Blossom (Cathy Cavadini), Bubbles (Tara Strong), and Buttercup (E. G. Daily), who used incredible superpowers to defend the city of Townsville from near-constant threats. Thanks to its simple but stylistic art style, impeccable voice acting, and homage to superhero stories, the show became one of the most popular Cartoon Cartoons. It even got a reboot in 2014 with a very mixed reception.

Being a major character in a long-running horror franchise is virtually guaranteed to kill you at some point down the line. Sequels have a tendency to raise the stakes -- and what could be a better way to do that than to kill a survivor from a previous film? The "Scream" series is a great example of this approach, especially since the laundry list of killers who don the Ghostface costume tend to have a fairly personal grudge against the people they attack.
Because of this, even major characters like Dewey Riley (David Arquette) who have been shown to survive serial killer after serial killer can suddenly fall victim to a surprise death scene a few movies into the game. Sometimes, behind-the-scenes issues also affect a major character's appearances, like when franchise star Neve Campbell turned town "Scream VI" due to the studio lowballing her with its contract offer.

There have been so many iconic shows that have defined Cartoon Network over the last three decades, like Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, Chowder, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Adventure Time – just to name a few. However, in terms of action series, there is no name as beloved on the network as Totally Spies. The French show originally ran for six seasons, from 2001 to 2015, but hasn't had a new season in over a decade. That changes soon, as Totally Spies Season 7 has found a new home stateside for 2025.

One of Cartoon Network’s nostalgic programming blocks, Toonami Rewind has been officially canceled, marking the end of its Friday evening showcase of classic Toonami hits Sailor Moon, Naruto, and Dragon Ball Z. Running from 5 to 7 p.m. Et/Pt, Toonami Rewind was beloved for reintroducing viewers to iconic anime series that helped define the original Toonami era. However, the Friday block will now be replaced by Checkered Past, a new lineup focusing on vintage Cartoon Network originals that will run during the same time slot Monday through Thursday, with an additional segment taking over Friday evenings.

Warning: Spoilers for The Powerpuff Girls #5The new Powerpuff Girls comic from Dynamite may have understandably decided to highlight the return of the Dynamo mecha warrior on the main cover of its latest issue because it is so recognizable, but fans who take the time to read this fifth issue will notice that it also quietly pays homage to Mojo Jojo's best episode - the 2008 TV special, The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!
The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! can easily be regarded as Mojo Jojo's most defining moment from the original series because of the incredible twist that takes place at the very end. Turns out that the reason why he wanted to defeat the Powerpuff Girls was so that he could, as he says himself, "End world hunger, stop global warming, save the whales, cure all disease, end all war, and [provide] free puppies for everyone."

Many beloved properties of Cartoon Network are about to disappear from Max as Warner Bros. Discovery continues to trim down their streaming library. Congratulations to Nickelodeon for winning the animation rivalry simply by letting us stream SpongeBob SquarePants.
When controversial Wbd CEO David Zaslav assumed control of the WarnerMedia empire and its massive, culturally crucial portfolio of original TV shows and movies in 2022, he set the tone for his tenure by cancelling completed and well-screened films like Coyote vs. Acme just to earn tax write-offs and recoup some of the production costs. Very quickly, cartoon-loving Max subscribers and Warner Bros.-associated artists realized that Zaslav’s intention with the post-merger mega-company was to rein in its sprawling streaming library, cut down on animation and focus on pushing shows that are cheaper and quicker to produce, like numerous spinoffs of 90 Day Fiancé or a Harry Potter-themed baking competition.

If there's one thing a slasher movie franchise needs, it's an instantly recognizable slasher. "Halloween" has Michael Myers, "A Nightmare on Elm Street" has Freddy Krueger (inseparable from actor Robert Englund), "Friday the 13th" has Jason Voorhees, and "Scream" has Ghostface. Unlike the other slashers, though, Ghostface is a mantle, not a single person.
The original "Scream" was a murder mystery, with Ghostface unmasked and killed at the film's end. Each sequel has continued the trend: a new person slips on the ghoulish white mask, full body black cloak, and starts stabbing people in Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) orbit. While each Ghostface killer has naturally been played by a different actor, the disguised voice is the same in every movie, provided by voice actor Roger L. Jackson. Get a look at the voice behind the mask courtesy of this video from Jamie Kennedy (who played Randy Meeks in "Scream").

In the history of popular sitcoms, Two and a Half Men will surely have a top spot with Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer leading the way. But apart from the stellar ensemble, creator Chuck Lorre also strategically brought in another aspect of the show that quickly grabbed the interest of the audience. The Powerpuff Girls meet The Simpsons in a new animation mashup. The Powerpuff Girls was an animated series created by Craig McCracken, which began telling the tale of Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles in 1998. The series ran for six seasons, from 1998 to 2004. The 1990s were an important time in the history of animation. The decade was marked by a lot of innovation and diversification in storytelling, art style and sound design. It was a peak moment thus far for children's television networks like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. And many now-obscure gems from that period stood the test of time.
The nostalgia of '90s cartoons is naturally more often linked to the most popular TV shows. From American classics like Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, The Wild Thornberrys and Animaniacs to anime like Sailor Moon, the hits overshadow the shows that were less popular in this crowded period. However, that doesn't mean the forgotten cartoons of the decade weren't as good as the ones that are easily remembered. The best 90s' cartoons everyone forgot about include Gargoyles, Magic Knight Rayearth and Doug, among other examples that go head-to-head with the greatest.

The best The Powerpuff Girls quotes show why the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are fondly remembered as one of the most memorable Cartoon Network series of their era. Although the show was generally geared towards young girls, audiences of all genders and ages warmed to the feminine superhero cartoon, which twisted or outright broke many of the sexist stereotypes and tropes of the 1990s and early 2000s.
The Powerpuff Girls is so fondly remembered because of the girls themselves. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were all incredibly endearing, but each had distinct personalities. Roger L. Children's TV shows of the 1990s weren't afraid to get quite scary and intense, with many standout episodes of beloved series leaving a lasting impression in the form of nightmares. The 90s were quite an interesting time for children's media, with loosened restrictions on what networks could get away with leading to some very experimental episodes of TV. While modern kids' shows can be quite scary, the childhoods of millennials are filled with particularly horrifying TV scenes that still cause bad dreams even today.
Interestingly enough, it wasn't strictly the explicitly horror-themed series that got quite terrifying in the 90s. The streaming service is the home to various animated series but has dropped several modern classics. This sudden removal has impacted a number of beloved animated series, leaving viewers to question the reasoning behind this decision and the future of other well-known programs.
According to Collider, some of the well-known titles that have been removed include Ben 10, Steven Universe, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, Chowder, and the 2016 Powerpuff Girls. Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s continued campaign of content erasure, animation fans mourn the destruction of Planet Nielsen.
In case Zaslav’s reputation among the cartoon community wasn’t low enough already, the controversial executive’s regime made a surprising and surreptitious move this week that sparked outrage across numerous online fandoms. Following the latest updates to the Max streaming library, seven Cartoon Network shows have disappeared from the premium streaming service, with Ben 10, Steven Universe, the 2016 Powerpuff Girls revival, Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, Chowder and Regular Show all pulled from service without so much as a “leaving soon” notice.
Now that the entire entertainment industry is firmly sliding on a downward slope following the peak of streaming, it seems that no TV series — no matter how beloved or endlessly quoted — is safe from the content cuts that have become company-wide policy under Zaslav’s leadership.
