"The New Barbarians Part II" is short and sweet, and an immense improvement over the cornball Part 1. I jumped to the wrong conclusion (see my separate Part 1 review) at the end of that one: instead of offering no chance of an interesting sequel the opposite came true.
That's because the original, credited as the brainchild of executive producer Erica Boyer (who does not appear as actress) was merely a big-budget porn video in the dumb old format of those British cave woman movies like "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth", starring everyone from Raquel Welch to Julie Ege.
After 10 minutes of recap, the "Part I" designation finally appears on screen, and the cave folk's magic crystal is activated by sexual stimulation nearby to transport characters through time, and the resulting fish-out-of-water action is a lot of fun. I'll try not to spoil that fun by giving too much away, but let's just say that the gimmick here turns out to be similar to that which packed a wallop in both the novel and screenplay of the original "Planet of the Apes".
Caveman Randy Spears and luscious cave woman Victoria Paris are transported to the 1990s, while lowlife pimp Joey Silvera and his girl Nina Hartley (yes, she was young once) end up back in the caveman era. Silvera's improvising is hilarious for a change and Hartley is spectacularly sexy and funny as a most adaptable bimbo. As for Paris, she was never lovelier and even more impressive than Raquel Welch who launched an entire career wearing quite similar (and silly) skimpy cave woman garb.
One odd element is that in a key supporting role another actress looks like and even plays like Erica Boyer, which threw me at first but is an interesting ploy: stepping behind the camera as creator Boyer elected to hire someone else to fill her slot rather than do it herself. Overall the entertaining result is another feature in the plus column for prolific director Ron Sullivan/Henri Pachard.
